Royal Jewels

Once the most glamourous European royal couple, now sadly estranged - TRH The Prince and Princess of Preslav arrived together at the church:
Later Kilil escorted Infanta Elena at the Palace.

Indanta Done Elena with her wedding tiara (!) and sapphire earrings. Nice dress with a feeling for matadors (typically Spanish). The Infanta''s been really crative these days:

Princess Benedikte of Denmark and husband Prince Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. The Princess wore her fringe tiara, diamond necklace and earrings and the sapphire brooch from her mother:

Princess Mabel wearing her wedding tiara...and...oh no...trousers... I think this could be a very nice and feminine dress, but the trousers and that curtain ruined it. And her husband forgot the breast star and badge of the Order of the Netherlands Lion. Oh, this couple!

Come on, this is Mabel we''re talking about! Could we expect anything less than the most fugliest outfit at the entire wedding from her? As for Johan-Friso forgetting the rest of his orders...he married Mabel and her baggage, so he''s not the smartest guy out there.

Maybe Queen Beatrix will figure out this couple should not represent the Netherlands and Dutch Royal Family (heck, they aren''t even in the Royal House anymore) in any capacity ever again!

Man, that outfit really is atrocious!

And here''s one other observation that just hit me...most of the other couples as they walk in are either holding hands, have their arms around each other''s backs, or are properly escorting the female by the arm.

These two aren''t even touching each other at all...hmmmm...

Okay, I need to stop dwelling on my least favorite "royal" couple and concentrate on the happy event!

Time for some photos - Queen Rania with her diamond bandeau/bracelet:

I would have liked to see something a bit more dramatic for the headpeice (except for that emerald thing) but I do love the color of this dress!

I love and adore this color! I just wish she had a great sapphire parure to go with it!

For once Sophie Wessex''s tiara looks OK! Her necklace and earrings are stilla mystery for me. Are they really on loan from Elizabeth II? I couldn''t find anything that matches 100% from Elizabeth''s collection...

That necklace looks like it could easily be converted to a fringe tiara. Sort of similar to the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland, but not quite. I think it can be converted to a necklace? (I bet Bobby can verify that) Like QEII would ever loan it out anyway.

Close-up of the cameo bracelet and Victoria''s rings. It looks the wedding band is in diamonds:

I am also thinking this is possibly an eternity band??

Princess Laurentien wearing Queen Emma''s diamond tiara with a ruby center and the long diamond earrings of The Queen. Don''t know about the brooch. Hate the hair.

Photo:

Is it just me or does the central element look wrong? Like there is a pearl missing?

By the way, it wasn''t thougth that the aquamarine tiara was sold, not stolen. I think it looked strange with the green dress. The colours quite clashed.

Quite agreed. That dress needed a lot more blue in!

Apparently Swedish wedding tradition is that the eternity ring will come only after the birth of the first child, so that must surely just be the wedding band - a stunning one at that.

Well, yesterday was TRH''s 11th wedding anniversary, perhaps that''s why Sophie wore her wedding tiara.
Regarding the necklace- I do hope it was Edward''s gift for last year''s anniversary and not a loan from Garrard & Co. I also have a feeling that it can be worn as a small fringe tiara, but nothing like the Girls!

Here''s what Field sais about it "a diamond festoon-and-scroll design surmounted by nine large oriental pearls on diamond spikes and set on a bandeau base of alternate round and lozenge collets between two plain bands of diamonds". And here''s more info about the tiara from The Royal Collection - The ‘Girls of Great Britain’ tiara Note that they say could also be worn as a necklace. The use of past tense makes me a bit confused... Maybe in 1969 (or even earlier) they fixed it permanently to the tiara frame?

Pity that we''ve never seen a single photo of Queen Mary of Elizabeth II wearing it unframed around their necks. It would be something really impressive!

Here''s a nice photo of Princess Mary (still Duchess of York?) wearing the GGB&I with the pearls and another pearl and diamond tiara (also wedding gift) as necklace:

I think it was mounted on the frame when Queen Mary removed the pearls. (maybe 1914 for the Lover's knot). QM wore it in a smaller version at the Devenshire Ball in the 1890's but as I remember never as necklace. but the base (greek design) could also be worn separately. HM received "both" tiaras in 1947.
she wore the GoGBaI some times without the base-frame, but later pernamently put them togehter.

the necklace/tiara which she wore as bottem row was a wedding present from "some lady's from England"

This woman scares me!

Interesting theory, Alexander. So, you suggest that Queen Mary had it parmanently fixed to the frame when she remover the pearls and/or the lozenge bandeau. May be! Of course the tiara and bandeau are clearly visible on the photo with the wedding presents I posted last week.

When I remeber right it was mentioned in Munns Tiara book... I know HM received the base AND the tiara seperately.

Sophie Wessex''s tiara somehow doesn''t seem to suit her well -- maybe the hairdo doesn''t help. But her earrings are gorgeous! And I agree, the necklace looks like it would make a lovely tiara.

I love Mahilde''s tiara; it''s classic, easy to wear w/different hairdos & delicate. Also Letizia''s necklace is SO pretty! It deserves a strapless dress where it show itself best.

Thanks for posting the great photos -- fun to see everyone''s dresses as well as jewels. I notice that royalty & nobility sometimes have the same accidents of choice as the rest of us when it comes to picking flattering gowns.
