Royal Jewels

Last weekend TRH Crown Prince Alexander II of Serbia/Yguslavia and his wife Crown Princess Katherine celebrated their Silve wedding anniversary in their home in the Royal Compound in Belgrade in the presence of many (royal) family members and friends. Among the most prominent guests were Kings Constantine II of Greece and Simeon II of Bulgaria with their Queens, King Michai & CPss Margareta & Prince Radu of Romania, Princess Desiree of Sweden & hubby Baron Nils August Silfverschiöld, Prince Guillaume & Princess Sibylla of Luxembourg, Princess Irene of Greece, as well as most of the other members of the Serbian Royal Family and the British aristocracy.

Here are links to photos and articles about the celebrations from Marlene Eilers Koenig's blog Royal Musings:
the first two links are from the gala dinner:

the first evening (not much jewels):
http://royalmusingsblogspotcom.blogspot.com/2010/09/first-dinner.html
http://royalmusingsblogspotcom.blogspot.com/2010/09/first-dinner-more-photos.html

Now comments about the jewels - I'm surprised from the size of the diamonds in Princess Desiree's necklace (btw she wore the same dress at Victoria's wedding); also Queen Anna Maria's ring (what a large ruby!), earrings and bracelet were new to me and I must say I like them.

OT - Does anyone know who the woman with the black dress sitting next to Queen Margarita of Bulgaria (first link, photos 6&7) and the wonam (same link) on the last photos are? The latter looks like an Itallian Princess, but I'm not sure.

Enjoy!

what is the necklace made of?

Now I'm a bit confused... I always assumed that this necklace is made of wthite metal (gold) and diamonds, maybe because on the photos I've seen the CPss wears it with her small diamond hoops. Your pannels, however, shows it as a pice of wire with small knots/balls...

Anyone else wanting to show their thoughts?

Bobby

She's a pretty woman but she's got such a huge lower jaw (I believe they call that a Hapsburgh jaw if Wikipedia is correct). I wonder if there are hair/ and/or jewelry choices that could give her a softer appearance.

I also wonder whether the sisters ever think about the fact that the crown princess got dark hair in a Nordic country when ironically the second sister got blonde hair.

I'm not trying to be cruel but these are my thoughts after seeing so many pictures of this princess. It seems this has changed from the royal jewels forum to the royals forum and/or the royal wedding forum. My interest is more in jewels unless there is a royal I feel very strongly about (e.g. Diana) which doesn't happen often.

We all know they can wear expensive clothes and (mostly) semi-impressive jewels. A lot of these pictures are basically like looking at someone's family album, over and over again. Anyway, my 2 cents.

Danny,
I'm not going to comment on the lower jaw, but I believe she's dark in her coloring because her mother's mother is from Brazil. Besides, many Nordic people have dark hair and/or eyes. The Swedish royal family also hails from various parts of Europe, and not just Sweden. I think Queen Victoria of England is related to all the royal houses in Europe from her many children. I think Crown Princess Victoria radiates health and vitality and she seems to be in great physical shape. I love how she looks in everything she wears. I also think she has an aura of approachability that other royals lack. Diana was the same way.

i was wondering these earings she (crown princess victoria) wore with the green dress seems to once belong to queen louise, has silvia ever worn them?

Can't help you with the necklace, but Victoria wore the earrings a month ago at the wedding of Prince Nicolaos and Princess Tatiana in Spetses. A close shot of the earrings: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/103634145/Getty-Images-Entertainment

Queen Beatrix has used the brooch as a pendant/clasp on various pearl necklaces. One can clearly see the hooks used to attach to peerl strings on the lower corners of the brooch. HM has also worn the earrings and ring. Last time The Queen wore them at the premiere of the opera "Pygmalion" at theater Carre in Amsterdam (see the link). Princess Maxima also atended.

Quite hard to tell, Josefine. As you say, there are plenty of brooches with this design. For example, I've seen Queen Alexandra (GB) wearing at least three such brooches, but it seems no one after her has worn them.
Anyway, isn't the large brooch worn by Queen Slivia with Baden roots? Queen Victoria got it (inherited?) from her mother, I belive.

What is that pink stone? A diamond, something else? It's hard to tell since the photo is so blurry. Thanks for posting it though.

Could someone please speak to the the jewels of Queen Fredericka (sp) posted by Josephine, especially the photo that just shows the tiara. I also especially love the diamond brooch and pink stone (?) ring worn by Princess Maxima. Thank you.

Also is anyone else occasionally having difficulty logging in since the website was changed? Love the site, but having a difficult time commenting and posting pictures.

Thank you for your kind words! Yes I intend to hang around for a long time! Maybe not posting all the time, but still following the thread.

Here is a couple of photos of the Countess of Wessex with two interesting pieces:
a diamond necklace

Here's a bit closer and clearer photo of the brooch (used as clasp) and earrings worn by Queen Beatrix. Don't know what the stones are, but my personal guess would be pink topazes. Diamonds are also a possibility but pinks with that colour and quality would be too expensive even for the Oranges, don't you think?

Hi Laurensmama and welcome back!

On all the photos from Josefine's panel, we see the diamond tiara of Queen Sofia (nee Prusia). This beautiful tiara was a wedding present from Victoria, German Empress and Princess Royal (eldest daughter of Queen Victoria GB) to her daughter Sofia (hence the name). At least once she's loaned it to her own daughter Queen (Mother) Elena of Romania (last photo). Queen Frederika first wore it on her wedding day to King Pavlos in 1936, four years after the death of Queen Sofia.
The other jewels worn by Queen Fredie are the emerald and diamond parure, a convertable pearl and diamond necklace, long pearl and diamond earrings and a brooch with large cobochon ruby, also from Queen Sofia.

Queen Sofia wearing her tiara and the ruby brooch -http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c3/Sophia_of_Prussia.jpg

The emerlad parure* - the large oval and pear-shaped cabochon emeralds were part of Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna's dowery. Through the years the've had different settings, mostly when they were with Queen Elizabeth, for whom the current tiara/necklace was made. Apparently King Pavlos had to buy them back for his wife Frederika.
The pearl and diamond tiara/necklace - provenance unknown. The central part was detachable and HM QF has worn it with Queen Maria's huge sapphire and the large ruby brooch. The tiara was later worn by Princess Irene, but hasn't been worn since the exile. Rumours say that it was sold during the family's stay in Rome.
The pearl earrings - one of Frede's favourite pairs of earrings, they were later worn by Queen Anna-Maria and some years ago by Pincess Alexia.

Thanks Bobby for the photos and the helpful information. While the emeralds are beautiful and my birthstone I might add, :appl: I am especially interested in the all-diamond (?) tiara. Do you have any other information? Do we think it was sold or left the family? Does anyone have a better photo? Thanks so much.

The panther bracelet (click on link, I don't know how to post pictures yet) is one of the most impressive jewels I've seen.

I knew about the panther/ sapphire brooch. I hadn't seen this.

Look at the feet! Wow!

Something that I always think about with the Duchess of WIndsor (of whom I am no fan, and it isn't the American thing or the divorced thing but the Nazi connections that I find untenable) is that I read that when she was very old (at least according to this source) she was a very lonely woman.

If this is true, all of those jewels didn't buy her happiness or fulfillment. They were magnificent jewels, though.
