Royal Jewels

Finally, on Charlene's hair ornament. I'm obsessed -- it was so unexpected & elegant. The piece itself (themselves) are beautiful & its placement w/the veil tucked into it stunning.

The first pic of Caroline wearing it (them) is a bit blurry, couldn't get it sharper. Also discovered one of her wearing part as a brooch.

Third pic is Charlene's other new tiara. I can't say either one thrills me -- the VC&A one might look best as a necklace, but I don't think I'm gonna like it atop the noggin. This one here is too understated, though IRL it might look really neat as her hair sparkles in the light when she moves -- can't tell from a photo.

Van Cleef & Arpels has the rare privilege of having been chosen by the bride to create a set of jewellery: Océan by Van Cleef & Arpels exalts the grace and elegance of Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene.
I really like this design and the subtle tribute to water and swimming. I can't wait to see her wear this! I wish she would have worn this to the evening reception (unless of course, it is still being made).

Here are some up close pictures of Wittstock's double trains. From the back, the bigger train dominates and everything looks normal, but from the side, both trains show. The effect is very fussy and takes away from the sleekness of the front of the dress.

Well put! Fussy is a great way to describe this. I thought it looked especially awkward at the ceremony when the lower train was off to the side.

Here the Russian Grand Duchess Marie with a new(?) tiara

This reminds me of QEII's Grand Duchess Vladimir's tiara with the circles and pearl drops.

Could someone, anyone, PUH-LEEZ suggest to the Countess of Wessex that she get a hairstyle for those times she wears "that" tiara that will cover that ugly base. Ewwwww.

I think her aquamarine tiara is far nicer and I wish she had worn it instead. She hardly wears the aquamarine tiara. It's almost like she feels obligated to wear her wedding tiara to all the weddings she goes to.

Others I thought looked very nice. Spectacular earrings on Charlotte Caseraghi; don't you think it's time she lost the pouty "Yawn, I'm so too special to be here" expression?

Agreed! I don't think I've ever seen her smiling or laughing.

Thanks for the marvelous video, JIL. And welcome to PS!

Yeah, in fact, seeing it like that, I do like -- a lot. Baumer, if I had the rocks myself, would be a choice of mine. I love his outlook on women & jewels, that a piece like this makes a woman who is not a princess into a princess. It does look like sea spray & in motion, as he says, the play of light on such stones makes magic -- great way to express one reason I've loved gems since childhood. (Thank goodness he speaks nice slow French!) Maybe a video of her wearing it the other night will surface.

She is going to be very interesting to watch from both fashion and jewelry standpoints.

I've seen her in videos smiling and laughing. She seems way more down to earth in videos than photos. I think she's so beautiful, that her look can come across smug in a static photo. That's the problem with people that have extremely perfect faces, like Garbo, Grace, Hedy LaMarr, etc. . .

some tiaras from the diner

I love the mental image this invokes! If I had a tiara I would most certainly wear it to the diner!

(Sorry Alex, I couldn't resist - and I do love the thought of it!)

JaneinLove - thank you for posting the video of the new tiara. It's nice to be able to see something this beautiful up close! I like the use of different cuts in the "wands" holding each of the pears - something that would be hard to pick out from still images. I imagine this piece is close to magic when it's being worn and in movement!

I like the modern touch that Princess Charlene has brought to royal jewelry with this tiara and her spectacular necklace.

Could this brooch be the middle part of the other Wessex tiara be?

No, the brooch is not the center of Sophie's aquamarine tiara. Unfortunately I don't have a good front view of the brooch but it looks like an Art Deco piece with a large oblong aqamarine bordered by diamonds and aquas. The Countess also wore (new?) diamond hoops:

Maria Vladimirovna's tiara looks nice. It's certainly an impressive jewel and so are the earrings. Wheteher it's real or not, however, I can not tell (thought most likely it's a costume piece). To me it's ment to look like her great-grandmother's pearl and diamond tiara. Hope to see Georgi Mikhailovich's bride (if any) wearing it some day.

I can't image such a "royal" lady wore a fake thing. may aa loan from a jeweller, don't know. The GD wore on both events (diner and church) very russian outfits. the day-time dress hat was also in the style of a kokoshnik (russian headdress style).

It is either borrowed or not real, from what I've read. She is not wealthy, but kudos to her for using an old Russian style.

YOW, I love Sophie's bracelet! I want it!

Yes, a loan from a jeweller is also a possibility. I just don't think that HIH is wealthy enough to afford this tiara and I've never seen a single photo of her wearing a tiara that large before. But it does look nice and as Laurie said - kudos to Maria Vladimirovna for wearing kokoshniks :)

As I promised, here are some photos of other royal ladies:

Thank you for the photos, Bobby. I just love Queen Paola's diamond necklace that she wore at the ceremony. The diamonds are huge & look like wonderful quality & the design is lovely.

Beautiful jewels...but I'm here to point out that none of the Savoia is anylonger a prince/princess in Italy: Italy is a repubblic since 1946!!!

They are still princes/princesses.They just don't have a country to reign over anymore (and it's a shame,if you ask me.).Emanuele Filiberto and Clotilde are a great couple, great people.I don't like Vittorio Emanuele, but the Duke of Aosta is an amazing man,and I would so love to see him be the king.He would definetely be so much better that all those idiots that call themselves politicians that we have now
