Royal Jewels

Are there any new photos of Crown Princess Mary of Denmark? I haven't been on this thread in quite a while and I'm enjoying catching up!

I love the Jardine Star brooch. It looks wonderful, whatever dress she wears it on.

I've been thinking about The Queen's brooches lately and it seems like there are brooches that are worn only at day time occasions, while others are favourits for eveneing occasions. There are also some brooches which are worn at both day and evening occasions. But has HM ever worn this star brooch during an evening event (white/black tie)?
The same question also goes for the Cullinan V brooch and the brooch with Cullinan VIII&VI.

That's just magnifiscent!!! Princess Maxima is real Queen material! I love it when she experiments with jewellery.
By the way, this is Queen Emma's diamond aigrette, whic Maxima first wore at the concert for her 40th birthday. This is the first time we see it worn as a brooch and it shows us how flexible the jewels is. I really love it :)

Yes, dear Lori, there are some very lovely new photos of Crown Princess Mary (and her family) :)
Here's a photo of the Crown Princely family, published before their official visit to Australia - http://www.ppe-agency.com/500px/Nov2011/PPE11111837.jpg

And GettyImages offers us three series of picturs from the visit
Day 1 - http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?EventId=125687445&EditorialProduct=Royalty
Day 2 - http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?EventId=133426102&EditorialProduct=Royalty

Here are some jewels that Mary wore at the official dinner, which I think we should discuss.
The first is a pair of chandalier earings from Ole Lynggaard's collection EveningUniverse

Here one can see the collection - http://www.olelynggaard.com/en/jewellery/new-launches/sweet-spots/the-collection/

The Crown Princess also wore an impressive new ruby and diamond ring

I like that photo of P. Mary in front of her portrait. Thanks, Bobby.

Here's another pic of Maxima, showing her bracelets too. She certainly does bling beautifully! How great that someone with a flair for wearing jewels married into a family with a ton of them. In a time with lamentably fewer gem-encrusted events, it's cheering to see Maxima looking "princess-y" as often as she does. Wait till she's queen -- I hope she blinds us with her diamond-fired brilliance!

I totally agree with you, Laurie! It's great that the Dutch royal family has another jewellery lover, the other one being Princess Margriet.
I can only imagine her with jewels that she's not worn so far, particularly the sapphire tiara and the House diamonds.
By the way, the bracelets are the ones that were made from Queen Juliana's Bracelet of the Colonies.

The Prseident of Turkey and his wife, Mrs Gul, were welcomed today by the Queen and other mebers of her family at the start of HE's three day State Vsit to the United Kingdom. At the official welcoming ceremony Elizabeth II wore her mother's scallop brooch:

In theevening there was a State Banquet, for which all royals dressed up. The Queen wore the Girls with Queen Victoria's diamonds - the collet necklace and earrings and the Waterfall brooch - seen for the first time on HM, it was a fitting choice because of it's provenance.

So far we only have a good photo of The Princess Royal, who donned the festoon tiara and her other diamond festoon jewels for the occasion.

And here we can see a glipse of Princess Michael of Kent but it's fard to be sure what she wore on her head, let alone any other jewels:

Lets hope that tomorrow we'll get far better photos of the Michaels, as they are going to attend the banquet at the Guildhall.

Finally, I'm on Thanksgiving break and have time to catch up on Pricescope!

Maxima looks amazing, and the jewel on her shoulder is very creative and unique. I would love to see Princess Charlene wear the piece she wore in her hair on her wedding day this way.

Crown Princess Mary looks better after 4 children than I do after 2. *sighs*

I would like to see those earrings worn with her midnight tiara...they seem similar with the metals and colors.

Wow, when was the last time the Princess Royal wore the festoon? I thought she wore the Greek Key almost exclusively now.

As for Princess Micheal, I'll go on a limb and say she's wearing her fringe tiara. I see a good number of sparkles on her head, and I don't think her festoon tiara with the pearls sparkles this much. Plus, the festoon has the spikes to it, and the sparkles on Princess Micheal's head seem fairly even in height.

I think that the last time we saw a clear picture of The Princess Royal with the festoon tiara was in 2008 at the banquet for President & Mrs Sarkozy in Buckingham Palace. Since then we've seen a gold and pearl bandeau and the Meander tiara. We just don't know what HRH wore at other State Banquets and the annual reception for the Diplomatic Corps (in case she attended).
I agree that Princess Michael most likely wore the fringe tiara (as she did at the US State Banquet), especially when you see my next post...

Last night Prince & Princess Michael of Kent attended the banquet at the Guildhall in honour of President & Mrs Gul. The Princess wore the festoon tiara, a pair of pearl drop and diamond earrings and an usussual necklace composed of three rows of very large pearls (fake/culured) with diamond (?) bows on earch side. The necklace has appeared on severall other dresses worn by HRH and was most notably worn at the rebural of Mme de Pompadour. Princess Michael also wore a ring with a very large pearl.
I'm not overly impressed by HRH's look here, but I think the dress was appropriate for entertaining a devout Muslim, especially compared to other frocks in her wardrobe ;)

I thought Princess Michael had added two rows of pearls to the bottom of the Kent Festoon tiara. I only see one here. Did she tone down her tiara as well as her dress for this state visit?

Thanks Bobby! :) School is massively stressful this year...it is so bad that if I survive, it may warrant a new tiara for my collection!

There's only one row of pearls at the bottom of the tiara. See here:
6133300.jpg

I've always been fascinated by this tiara and it's no secret that it is among my favourites. But it's strange that while we know a lot about Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent's jewels, this one is a mystey. How did the Kents aquire it? Did the Duke buy it? Or was it a kind gesture on Queen Mary's side? But then again it's not a tiara she's worn... Perhaps it has Russian roots?
All we seem to know is that Marie-Christine added the pearl base, but how accurate is that? At one time (pre-M-C) there was a diamond base. What heppened to those diamonds, when were they removed?
Maybe someone with one of the books on royal jewels would like to join my mussings?

Bobby

Earlier I (wrongly) assumed that The Queen wore Queen Victoria's diamond drops earrings, but looking at this photograth I think I was wrong. Perhaps I was mislead because of the necklace worn and the low quality of the pics, but now it appears to me that HM's actually wearing the Greville diamond drop earrings. Look at this picture (see link) and tell me aren't these The late Queen Mother's favourite pair of diamond earrings?

Today I came accros this photograph of Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh. What stuck me in this photograph (and the reason for this post) are the jeweles The Queen's wearing - it appears the she'swearing the Queen Caroline and Queen Anne pearl necklaces, the Devon earrings and a very large round brooch with a coloured stone in the middle (an amethyst?).
Would anybody have guesses about the brooch? Also, the occasion must've been very special for HM to wear these jewels. Anybody knows what it was?

The picture shows HM QE II attending the opening of the First Scotish Parliment since devolution, in 1999. This was an important state occasion (but sadly not important enough for HM to wear the Scotish Crown or state robes. This is something that she did not do in 1953 when she formally accepted the Honours of Scotland and caused much criticism at the time as the people of Scotland did not feel they were afforded the same importance as England had been ).

The brooch is in a traditional highland style and may be amethyst or indeed, may be a Cairngorm stone, a variety of citrine found in Scotland and traditionally used in Highland dress.

Thank you Neil, for the quick and informative reply! Much appreciated! Now that you mentioned Scotland and Cairngorm stones, I was reminded of this brooch in the Royal Collection, originally worn by Prince Albert with his Scottish dress.
http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/e...rooch&x=0&y=0&pagesize=20&object=12899&row=11
I also remember the Celtic brooches that Elizabeth II, as well as her mother, wear/wore during their stay at Balmoral.

On another note, I also wish The Queen of Scotland would show in her full finery at the Opening of the Scotish Parliament.
For those that haven't seen it, here's a photograph of the late (15th) Duke of Hamilton carrying the Crown of Scotland.

Bobby

I have a brooch like that, Neil, with a Cairngorm stone. Bought it in Scotland & I love it. It isn't as big as the Queen's, though!

I most certainly meant to say Diane de Poitiers, Princess Michael' ancestress. For some reason I confused the names of the two ladies, both of which are legendary courtesans.

This is one of the two brooches with Cambridge emeralds in The Queen's collection. Last time we saw it on HM, it was worn without the drop.
Here we can see a clearer photo of the brooch, as worn by a young Elizabeth II in Sweden:

BTW, the reception for the media (during which BB's pic was taken) was also attended by the Wales & Cambridge couples.

Bobby

After the reception at Buckingham Palace, TRH The Prince & The Duchess of Cornwall headed to The Odeon Leicester Square, where they attended the Royal performance of 'Hugo' in 3D. The Duchess wore her serpant diamond necklace and modern diamond earrings, also the usual bracelet.
