Hey, long time no see! Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is celebrating her 80th birthday in a couple of weeks, but the big celebration has been cancelled in light of the current pandemic.
We have to thank her Swedish cousins for some Scandinavian glitter this April, though. A one hour documentary discussing the history of the Napoleonic jewels in the Bernadotte collection has aired the other day on Swedish national TV. Among the narrators sharing the stories of the jewels are none other than The Queen, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Christina.
The documentary starts with the mighty Braganza tiara and we can appreciate how it moves (a fact Queen Silvia shared in 2012). We learn some new information about the sapphire parure and cut steel jewels, but most amazing of all are the detailed close ups of the various tiaras and other jewels.
The documentary is in Swedish, but you can use the automated translation of Google Chrome (or just enjoy the moving images).
Part 2 will follow in a week and we'll get to learn more about some other pieces from the collection.

Although after watching “The Crown” whenever I see a picture of her now, I can’t help but call her ‘Cookie’. I know it’s mean but the name has lodged itself firmly in my brain.
