The blue stone in The Grand Duchess Adelaide's tiara is a sapphire, but it can be replaced with a pale blue aquamarine as well.

While I was looking at tiaras that belonged to the Royal Family of Luxembourg, I learned a little bit about their history. Grand Duchess Marie-Adélaide and her sister Grand Duchess Charlotte, who succeeded her when she abdicated after a seven year reign, were granddaughters of the first woman who wore the tiara. The first woman to wear the tiara was the wife of their grandfather, The Grand Duke Adolphe, The Grand Duchess Adelheid-Marie.

Here is a wedding photo of The Grand Duchess Charlotte to Prince Félix de Bourbon-Parma wearing The Empire Tiara. The couple had to receive a papal dispensation to marry because their mothers were sisters.

That yellow dress accentuates her hight - i know she is Dutch by Marriage not birth but has anyone else ever noticed how tall people are in The Netherlands ?

I haven’t been to the Netherlands but then I am taller than average so maybe I wouldn’t notice. I certainly feel tall when travelling in Asia. Interesting observation Daisy.

I love it too. Something cheerful and the design reminds me of a tienda trajes flamenca!

They are very tall! My partner, who is tall for normal people standards, is average height (if not short) for Dutch standards.
My female colleagues from the Dutch office are at least as tall as I am!

Yes, Maxima is a good fit for them :)

How could you!! :-o:bigsmile:...that's like the BIGGEST piece of royal jewel that we've seen for a LONG while!

True!

She could've opted for the sapphire, I think. It would've created a reverse look of the order sash - yellow with blue accents.

Do you know when the last set of photos was taken?

Unusual but i like it - id want it made im gold like the Danish golden poppies

The Poppies! That's what it's been reminding me of!
Do you think this can pass for appropriate head gear for a less formal (black tie) tiara event? Probably not with Maxi, but generally speaking.

Prinsjesdag is always such an awkward dress code...formal gowns with hats/fascinators. I know it harkens back to Edwardian days, but it is difficult to pull off. Maxima always manages to impress though!
