Salon lashes?

I was in the eye field for 30 plus years so I will share my experience. I saw lots of problems with these extensions. Infections and abrasions and just not something I would recommend. Instead consider using Bimatroprost (make sure not to get into your eyes) and it could help enhance the lashes you have. I also use it on my brows since I was losing hair there due to my Hashimoto's and it seems to help. I now only apply once a week

One caveat,,,it did stain my lids as if I am wearing liner which I am not wearing. It doesn't bother me but it could bother some so I am pointing it out as a potential adverse effect

You can see my brows (and lashes but the photo doesn't show the lashes well) have filled in...the alopecia affected mainly my left brow and it seems almost the same now as my right. Took about six months plus to work for me. I am not wearing any eye makeup here at all. It's from the bimatoprost

Here is a picture of the lashify lashes on my eyes. I’m using four Curve style lashes on each eye. 1- 10c, 1- 12 c and 2-14c.
I love them! CD5C155F-ECBD-4EF3-BB74-3E30FB833DFD.png

Thanks everyone! I've learned a lot from this thread so far. Most appreciated.

I have used the generic Latisse (bimatoprost) with great results, but got spooked by all the possible side effects. I use it on my eyebrows only now.

After hearing on here about the maintenance required with salon lash extensions, I decided to look into Lashify (DIY lash extensions). But I found a lot of negative reviews about the company.

I learned that there are now inexpensive alternatives to Lashify though, that don't require a subscription etc. I just ordered one called "Falscara." I If they work out, I think I'll give it a rest between applications rather than wear them continuously. Hopefully, that will cut down on the possible problems like infection or loss of natural lashes.

I guess I could also try harder with the regular false eyelashes but I am not good at applying them.

I saw an advert for eye lash serum, Googled it and found they have good reviews, so I took the plunge and bought one. It is called UKlash and I shall provide feedback in a few weeks, and shall take before, in-progress and after (12+ weeks or something like that) photos.

DK :))

FWIW @dk168 I used to use this when I was in the UK, and I got great results from it.

Good to hear that! It should arrive anytime soon, can't wait!

I got lash extensions for my daughter's wedding several years ago, and I loved them! But one thing no one else has mentioned -- so maybe no one else experienced it -- is that after the 2+ hour appointment to have them placed, I left with the worst headache of my life. I attribute that to the very strong (smelling) glue that is used. The maintenance schedule would be too much for me, but the main reason I opted not to keep up with them is that I can't imagine being exposed to that chemical every two weeks. I don't know how stylists tolerate it daily, and I'm not sure they should. Just my .02 worth.

Hmmm...I never noticed any glue smell with my lash technician. As I was reading your post, I was thinking your headache was due to the bright lights they use...till I got to the glue part...

I was kind of surprised no one else had mentioned it, so I wondered if my experience was unusual. Maybe not the norm!

I just tried on different lashify lashes yesterday and thought I would post. These are the starburst and on the ends are curve. Again just four on each eye- 1-10S, 1- 12S, 1-14S and 1-14C.
BTW I read your post above and I don’t have a prescription for lashify. I just bought whatever I felt I would need for now bc I wasn’t sure I would like it.

Update on the result of using UKLash for about 2 months.

I can definitely see an improvement, with longer and fuller lashes.

Easy routine to master - just apply the serum after a shower that takes seconds to do.

No need to worry about water damage and having to baby my lashes etc...

Cost is justifiable for the result I have achieved just after 2 months.

Difficult to photograph as I am not very good with taking selfies, however, here is a before and after photo, and I can see the difference IRL for certain.

I also have deep set eyes @dk168 and with continued use, my eyelashes were touching my eyebrows. If you continue to us it, I’d really recommend a lash lift to really maximise the results.

Basically yes @Calliecake. It’s a very simple procedure. Silicone strips are put under your bottom lashes, and on top of your top lashes, then a lotion is applied and your lashes separated. The solution is left on for a while, and when it’s done, your lashes are curled, making your eyes look more open.

This isn’t me, but this is the effect you get. I was really pleased with the results when I had it done.

I bought the Diablo lash lift kit a while ago and I was never able to make it work. Apparently I have super oily lids.

I tried it again a few weeks ago, but I used hibicleanse first to get the oils off my lids. I hate to even say it because you have to be so careful with hibicleanse.

It worked!

You can also use the Diablo solution on your eyebrows if you have squirrley eyebrows… they call it perm solution. So it’s like perming your eyelashes and brows.

@missy close your eyes for this next part: then I dye my eyelashes with jet black just for men beard 5 minute dye. :-o I also dye my brows with JFM brown. (the tips of my lashes are blonde and when my kids were little they asked me why I didn’t have eyebrows:lol:. They are so blonde (and now a few gray) you can barely see them.

I need to get some castor oil since my lashes are getting thinner.

I agree not caring is the best.

I also like the thrive causemetics mascara.

WOW @Austina! Thank you for posting the photo. The photo looks gorgeous. I need to look into this. I use Latisse but my lashes still need to be curled with an eyelash curler.

I'd rather stick with my daily use of eyelash curler then a coat of waterproof mascara.

Not keen on salon treatment of any kind except for my monthly haircut.

DK :))

I would advise reading up on the care and maintenance requirements before opting for lash extensions.

I considered them, then I discovered I had to be careful when I shower and wash my face etc., and decided they are too high maintenance for my liking.

DK :))

You don’t. I do lash extensions. You actually should get them wet and keep them clean.

I found Latisse gave me sunken eyes and dark skin around my eyes - not uncommon, I believe.

I use GrandBrow on my brows, and I believe they have a similar product for eyelashes, which I've never used. As well as thickening my brows, GrandBrow also darkened my eyebrows. I don't do anything for them now except the occasional tidy-up, and I'm very happy.

For my eyelashes, I'm on an anti-glaucoma med due to being on steroids for my Crohn's, and it's made my eyelashes slightly longer, which is enough for me. I don't wear make up at all really (skin care, rather than make up, is my jam), so I'm happy with just those results. I use tinted lip gloss (we're talking Bert's Bees rather than Dior here), and I dye my eyelashes every so often if I have something big coming up - and that's it.

I've had great success with Liaison lash serum. My lashes are naturally reasonably long, but very fine, and the tips are completely blonde, so they're almost invisible without mascara! They also tend to fall out quickly but take foreeeeever to grow back.

These are my real lashes with two coats of mascara, having used Liaison every second day or so for about a year. They're much longer, fuller, thicker and darker, and I don't get the redness along my lash line that I've read about with other serums.

Excuse my manky hair, it's hot today!

Here are my lash extensions. Love them! Haven't had them done for a while but am definitely going to have them done again. I've been having them for 6-7 years. Once in a while I take a break to allow my natural lashes to grow again.
