Would anyone be able to recommend some good vendors in the San Diego area for a cushion stone and custom settings? I already have an appt with Mark of ERD next month but would like to checkout a few places in San Diego to see what they might have to offer.

I noticed the Gemological Research Conference 2009 was going to be in Carlsbad (cancelled now) but I figured there must be some good vendors here if they were planning a conference here.

Thanks!

Hmmm my DH is from there and I haven't found any place that I think is particularly great in my travels there as far as great prices, selection, etc. My MIL has a jeweler in Julian that she really loves, but I don't think she gets a particularly great deal there, but they are very nice and honest. It's not the kind of place that will have hundreds of cushions at their disposal though like Mark does. I'll get the name for you next time I talk to her.

And conference locations are often fairly arbitrary...at least in my field!

H. Madori in La Jolla has nice antique and modern stones. They might be able to help you find a cushion. They tend to carry larger stones, so if you are looking for anything smaller than 1.5 cts, they may not be a good place to check out.

Other than that, I know a couple places that sell really nice rounds and princesses, but not cushions.

For settings, I am not very happy with SD. Robbins Brother''s is the only place that sells many of the big name settings, and I am not crazy about that place. If you want something custom, it might be worth the drive to LA to see the work of Maytal Hannah.

Thank you both for the tips.

I figured SD wouldn''t have much but thought I''d ask anyway.

Maybe I''ll focus more research into places in LA.

Not sure about cushions, but I love Harold Stevens for their custom work. We had my engagement ring and bands made there, and their services and workmanship was absolutely top notch. Joy was an absolute delight to work with, not pushy and very knowledgeable. Hope this is of some use to you!

Very helpful. Thanks!

I couldn''t find a location or website for this place. Any chance you can help me track that info?
