Holy S$@*!!!! Wasn't expecting this excitement Boxing Day morning! Well if Porsche cut diamonds I would suggest that shape but I guess Cadillac's will have to do.
@Dee*Jay I love the Cadillac cuts and the stone is absolutely spectacular.. I have worked wit Ilya before and found him a joy to work with. Can’t wait to see the completed ring!!!
Wow Wow Wow
What a stunner and HUGE.
we all know how I love HUGE.
Definately Platinum, love the Cadillac cuts, my other suggestion would be 2 Marquis per side, angle set, point out to the sapphire, point in at the band junction.
Hey kids! I'm really sorry for going MIA but I need to finish up a bunch of other family type post-Christmas stuff and then I'll be back. It's amazing what a mess you can make in the house on zoom after zoom after zoom...
Wow, what a gorgeous color and cut on your Christmas sapphire!! Love the violet hues and all the color gradients the cut brings out! Your setting idea with Cadillac sides sounds beautiful! Not seeing the halo as much. Good luck with this exciting project!
Ok, chickadees -- I'm back! Sorry again for disappearing yesterday; the day got the better of me.
Missy, thanks for the info on posting a video. I'll see what I can do!
Thank you Austina!
Alex, the color is even more amazing in person -- I'm not doing a good job capturing it with photos.
Mrs. S - thank you!
Slick, the setting part is all the fun for me! (Well OK, the hunt for a stone is fun for me too!) But so many ideas, so few gems, ha ha.
Siamese, love right back at ya!
Yenny, I think you're right; if I go swoopy prongs the bezels may not integrate in the design well.
Finer, I so happy to have a community like this to help me figure out what that new home should be!
Thank you Mama Bee!
Kristen, Bron must have "gotten the message" because I see she checked in a little later!
Acinom, I was happy to see how very different the sapphire are. I knew they would be, but having them both on my hand at the same time was cool.
Elizat, THANK YOU so much for posting those pics! Your ring is gorgeous and I love the bezeled cadillacs. Wow -- what a stunner!!! And that's what I love about PS -- when you're thinking about something there's generally someone who has it, or some element of it, and that helps so much in making a plan.
Thank you tyty!
Michelle, when this is done my sapphire will have to come over and play with your sapphires!
FL, I stalked this stone for ages. I always thought to myself, well if I don't finally buy this thing I really hope it's a PSer that does, LOL.
RunningWS, the size is pretty awesome, I must confess! (#DeeIsASizeHo)
Sharon, you made me LOL. Hmmm... maybe I should work with Stormy and see if we can come up with a Porsche cut!
Thank you Whitewave!
Luce, isn't Ilya just the best! He's an absolute doll and his shop has really expanded. He's really making some gorgeous pieces!
Gussie, I'm not sure Santa thought I was "good," but fortunately he thought I was "good enough" ha ha.
Luv, Ilya is https://ivyandrose.com/. He doesn't do a ton of colored stones compared to his diamond inventory, but the CS he does have area always interesting and unique to me. If you found something there you were considering I'd be happy to pop over to his shop (he's right by my place) and take some more pics and/or video for you. Also, we did a PS GTG there ages ago (I'll see if I can find the thread) and I really want to have another as soon as we can get past this pandemic. What better way to brighten up our lives than with good friends and sparkle?!?
Dmndsr4evr11, I thought about a halo (and it's not 100% off the table yet because, well, nothing is!). Yes definitely to the double prongs!
Bron, I also love HUGE! I've passed on several stones over the year because even though they were beautiful, they didn't have the size I wanted.
Curby, I think the cadillacs are going to be just the right touch!
MGR, I can't remember the color of the caddy set I chose, but they are very very white. Really good contrast. The ones I posted in the pic are a little smaller than the pair I'm going with BTW, but it was a clearer photo showing the faceting better so I used it to show what the cadillacs looked like.
Bluemuse, your Elena an absolute stunner! I have looked at your thread often and I love the story. I also thing it's great that both of our stones came out of old brooches! Love the pictures of your "mini blue blob" with the Big Blue Blog, ha ha. I have been calling this one Bubba Lou, which is also what we call TR's dog Blue some times (I'll see if I can find a quick pic of doggy Blue.). Not sure yet if that name will stick -- for the stone that is, not the dog!
Lisa, the sapphire French cut halo ring in your avatar is just beautiful -- such vibrant color there too!
Ideal, it's my birthstone too -- my date is the 5th. So no white Christmas for me this year, but definitely a blue one!
Well our Chicago gtg took us to diamond Zone in the jewelers building on South Wabash and what a great time we had! DeeJay, rosebloom, Jax, woofmama and Enerchi (and Mr Enerchi was along for the ride-- totally appreciating the champagne!!) while we put Ilya thru his paces! I think we tried on...

The store has since been renamed Ivy & Rose, and the new space is really really nice.
I love the openness of something like this concept.
I don’t know whose ring the first one is (I grabbed the image off the magic internet) but the second ring is the lovely Yssie’s, and the rendering came from one of her threads too.
The prongs on the main stone would have to be moved closer together so they'd be more "on the corners" of the cushion rather than having them spread apart like they are for a round. I also like the side stones more open like they are in the first pic rather than having the "bar" across.
Not sure if an idea like this is (a) safe and/or (b) structurally possible though, so any feedback on that would be appreciated!
What a handsome boy he is @Dee*Jay !! He’s got the prettiest sky blue eyes!
He looks spunky and sparkly just like your new gorgeous stone!
It’d be sweet to name it after your good boy!
That is really cool that both our stones came out of old brooches! It will be exciting planning your ring!

DS, I think you're right about the trellis idea not being wise... I've started a new thread specifically asking for gallery ideas. Hopefully more creative minds than mine will come up with something cool!
