Sapphire decision. Help please!

That won't do it. Every posted photo of a gem (except for maybe opal) is taken under very bright light.

I am just a little concerned because you say you do not wear or buy jewelry (!) so I infer that you are more susceptible to some vendor "push" tactics than many other folks on this forum. And holiday "hurry-up" is not always conducive to making the wisest purchases (I have been there). Those look like 1st Dibs photos but I can not say for certain. Prices there can be quite flexible as I am sure you know.

Thanks so much for looking out for me! I really appreciate your advice!

The pictures were in fact taken by a very helpful lady where the ring has arrived in the meantime. I couldn't wait to see it so she took a couple of snapshots. Very nice of her.

I do wear jewerly (well, just the earrings and my wedding rings plus a few bracelets) but I truly don't know anything about it :) And I've never had any coloured gemstones so I am really curious what I am gonna see tomorrow.

You are absolutely right! I will try to take a look in different light conditions to the best of my ability.

Most people around here do not wear a lot of bling so the market has adjusted accordingly and there is simply not that much choice :(

your perffect saphire is out there
dont settle for anything less

I like the blue-blue one better. I like a lighter to medium blue better myself. I don’t like when my stones look black in low light.Absolutely get what you like best, but take note that the merchant pictures are shot with a lot of light so these stones may look darker at your house, office, etc. Happy shopping!

At first I thought I like the lighter sapphires better. But after looking at all sorts of sapphire pictures all over the internet and on this forum(very helpful!), I have started to feel the pull of the darkness ;-) :)

I think I like both lighter and darker sapphires with the exception of very pale, pastel ones. All those lovely shades of blue have something to offer. They are all so pretty! And there is certainly room in my life for more than one shade of blue :)

So, now it is down to this ring. I saw it today and took 1001 pictures. Note to self: do NOT start a career as a gemstone photographer! About 5 turned out focused :)

So, honest opinions please?
(All of these were just taken with my iPhone and only resized to exclude irrelevant details like my bad nails ;)).

(By the way, I apologise if the look of my nails grosses you out. Sorry! It's not dirt under my nails! Just some fuzz stuck there from my warm gloves. )

I have also taken some photographs by the window. Today was a very, very dark November day (if you could even call it a day!...), completely overcast and utterly depressing. But I think that even by the window, some light was still shining from the back of the store.

Is this what you call "blackening effect"? I would really love to hear your honest opinions and comments.

I think I have finally made my decision.

Over the course of the last few days, I have looked at so many sapphires, I've had a headache all weekend :) I have also compared the pictures of the ring I've seen IRL with the pictures of sapphires I have seen (and liked!) on this forum. Like the one below (one of many! This is just an example). I don't have an "eye" for color so it helps me to see things side-by-side.

It's been such a learning process! A real self-discovery journey into what I actually like and what looks nice to me, but only on other people.

Thanks for everybody's feedback and help!

Please share what you decided on and of course, come back with hand shots when you get it!

Could not be happier with the ring and super good service too. The ring looks actually better under daily usage conditions than when I first looked at it. I am not a jeweller so I am sure that real experts could point out a flaw or two but the only one for me is that it could be 12 carats instead of 6, haha :) It amazes me constantly with different shades of blue, one more beautiful than the other.

These pictures were taken on a dark and cloudy day with zero sunshine. I was standing in the shade, under a tree. In sunshine, the diamonds sparkle like crazy but, if I might put it that way, the sapphire doesn't allow them to steel his show :)

Congrats of finding the one! So glad to hear your search paid off so beautifully.

Wow, what a stunner!!

It’s gorgeous!!!

Gorgeous!! Is this the unheated sapphire? If so, one of such weight and color is even more rare and exquisite!

Congratulations on such pretty bling!

Holy smokes! What a beautiful sapphire ring. Enjoy!!

What a gorgeous ring! Congratulations and enjoy!

Oh wow! It is pretty amazing! How do you feel about the color after seeing it in different lighting conditions? Does it change much? I absolutely love those side stones and the setting (AND THAT SAPPHIRE)! Egad, can you share a couple more pics :lickout:
