This is my first real foray into colored gem-land.
I bought the stone without having much knowledge because it is pretty to me and the price was right and, the shape is perfect for the intended use.

Once I examined it closed, I could tell the color is not uniform throughtout the stone and the cut is not symmetrical (the pavilion is outof whack.
That must be why the proce was so good. I am pretty darn delighted with it! I didn''t think I''d get a sapphire in my price range. I was focusing more on tourmalines.
Well, that''s a project for next time!

Looks darned purty to me! Can''t wait to see it set!

Looks georgous! My own sapphire is far from "perfect" and I love it anyway. Can''t wait to see the finished ring!

It looks very pretty to me. Please post hand shots when it is set. We will look forward to seeing it on your hand.

thanks all!

I was so lucky to be able to see a lot of stones in person and select it.
And I am so lucky to live near Quest. They are going to modify the "basket" to fit the stone perfectly. I think the size is great with the nice bulky gold shank.

It''s going to be about 4 weeks til it''s done.

that stone looks great. I love that color of blue sapphire. Where did you get it (if I can ask?)

It''s going to be beautiful! Maybe you could have some engraving done on the shank? Or side stones would look good too.

I saw the stone at a gem show. If you''ve never been to a gem show, you must try to go! It was amazing!

This is the vendor:

I called him a few days later and he remembered me and took very good care of me. Very professional outfit.

I was looking for something to put into my e-ring and I hoped for a tourmaline since my budget was low.
This sapphire was priced so well, I splurged and boy am I glad!

Thanks for the engraving idea! that is worth considering!

Love the shape of that stone - and the color - it''s gonna look gorgeous! Can''t wait to see it set.

More info about the gem show please! How did it work? You just walked around and looked at all the stones and then called the vendor later and bought it? Were there a lot to choose from? Did you feel that the prices were good?

Well, you pay $7 to get in and it''s like a big huge supermarket with aisles and aisles of vendors. There is everything from beads for $1 per strand and CZ set in platinum plated sterling silver to big huge honkin'' diamonds and other gems. There were also tons and tons of settings. Most of them seemed to be knockoffs of current favorites like Tacori, Veraggio, Ritani and plenty of custom designers. There were only one or two estate /vintage stalls.

Any kind of gem you want- tourmalines, tsavorites, sapphires, spinels, rubies, emeralds, diamonds of all colors, etc etc.

It had a bit of a carnival feel.

So yep, I wasn''t 100% sure I wanted to buy the sapphire because I had not yet selected my new e-ring mounting.
They even had craftsmen there who could set a sotne while you watched. I was very tempted to buy the sapphire and have it set in my e-ring on the spot, but I couldn''t bring myself to pull the trigger.

So I took his business card and called him a few days later. He remembered me and which stone I liked and I gave him my credit card info and I received the stone 2 days later (didn''t feel like paying for overnight charges).

It was EASY!
I can''t wait to go again. I got a SUPER price on that sapphire. I had a jeweler here look at it- he said he couldn''t touch the price & congratulated me.

Well now I am just KICKING myself becuase I can see from the schedule that there was a gem show in my city just 2 weeks ago and I somehow missed it. Damn!
