Seaglow's Finds

@Bluegemz, on a funny note, I gambled 20 bucks on a small whole boulder. I saw a nice green spot on the the outside and had it sliced in two. Inside is utility jade. Lol. I had a part made into a cab to see how it will look. So jadeite rough is really fo experts only. Lol. Rough buyers at the Mandalay jade market spend hours on some boulders with their penlight before buying.

Lol! I was going to ask whether you gambled on an unopened boulder...I know that the color in the ‘window’ is often totally misleading about what’s inside the rest of the stone. I’m sure fortunes are made and lost with wrong estimations about the contents of the boulders.

It is still a lovely jade boulder! I adore your Tourmaline cluster too. I think the most expensive specimen which I have is an amethyst cathedral geode, but the rest are inexpensive...a brownish star ruby, some Siberian nephrite river nuggets etc and so on. I used to have more things but I often end up giving them to people. I guess it’s sharing the crystal love lol. The next piece which I want to buy is a nice star rose quartz sphere.

I love the green specs on the jade egg! Seems like there are lots of variables to consider.

Is there ever a situation were you get the most gorgeous green colour in a boulder but it's full of cracks and lines? What would they use it for?

OMG your wall of stones is AWESOME!!!!!!! That tourmaline cluster is quite the specimen! My kid would faint if you let him go up to that wall!

Also I love your pad and have become fascinated with pads. Was wondering did you also have any other pads or paddish colours? You have so much stuff I thought I'd ask and get a looksee if you do!

Yes I have some loose stones in my collection in the peach-pink-orange-yellow mix spectrum, gathered in so many years. They are sapphires, spinels, Malaya garnets, and tourmalines. Some are up for recuts.

I think spinels make the nicest pad color especially Mahenge. These are Mahenges except for the lighter stone.

Legally, rough is not allowed to be brought out of Myanmar, only finished goods.

I don't have any boulders but yes you can get them easily at the market. Most in the affordable range will be picked over utility jade or very cracky.

I've seen jade ashtrays too.

Schmoly @Seaglow that is amazing. In the second pic I'm in love with the two right ones top and bottom.

I'm glad I asked you for a pic!

I started buying Mahenges when they were just low hundreds per carat instead of thousands per carat on a carat up stones. The first find in Mahenge spinel has good saturation. Those were the best stones approx. 10 years ago. That time, the spinels weren’t expensive. A hundred a carat is high for spinel then. In Myanmar then, you can buy nice stones at 10-30 bucks a carat. I wished I’d bought bigger ones. After the Mahenge boom, the spinels sky-rocketed.

The light peach stone is Burmese at 1.28 carats, the darker is Mahenge at 1.39 carats.

They are gorgeous. The lighter one especially looks identical to a perfect pad to me.

Bought it for 40 bucks at the border. Lol.

Hurt me why don't you *sobs*

I actually saw one in a jewellery store. Loved the colour. Goodness knows what it is because they claimed it was a sapphire but gave me a blank look when I asked about treatments etc

I should add they called it a pink sapphire and tried to talk off the peachiness (they thought it was a bad thing) so I REALLY knew they have no clue what they are on about! Then I went home, looked up beryllium diffusion and saw a tonne of peachy stones which had me running scared!

Your first pic, the even sized boxes of 12, second column, second stone: LOVE that one!

Before the spinel boom, it’s only the reds that commanded price most often as a ruby simulant. When Myanmar opened the country for Commerce, prices were still good at the start...then went up and up with the Mahenge find, Luc Yen find, then lifting of US embargo. The Americans without the embargo started hoarding the spinels (yes, not sapphires and rubies, but spinels). I remember the gray spinels were given for pennies before. I started buying all affordable decent spinels I could find before prices shot up.

The even sized boxes are from a stacking tray.

We should issue you with a colour challenge every week and go through the colours of the rainbow so we can oogle at all your stones

Seaglow, what an amazing collection of loose stones you have! They are all so beautiful. The light peach spinel is my pad ideal. You may regret not going bigger but at least you got in on the action when they were still affordable and have beauties to show! Also, you are patient to not set them all at once.

My questions: is it hard to find ‘pure lavender’ jade beads? I mean my bracelet many of my beads have green mixed in with lavender, but
Now that I’ve seen your necklaces, I wanted to ask if mine is valued less? Meaning is it less valued in industry if your lavender jade beads have green colored mixed in? I hope I didn’t get an inferior bracelet... When I first received my bracelet it seemed more pale lavender so I placed bracelet in mineral water to bring out the color and wearing now everyday.. so now I feel I see more green in the beads. What’s your opinion?

Lavender in general are hard to find but smaller brand should be easier to have pure colors. In one of the necklaces, I found about 3 beads with a green tint. You won’t really see the green unless you look closer. The combination of green and lavender is also beautiful so it’s a matter of preference. The pure vivid green will always be the preferred color by most, and second in demand is lavender, so a combination of both can’t be wrong! I’ve seen a combination of green and lavender bangles sold for thousand of dollars. :)

Soaking in mineral water should not change the color. Wearing it everyday can make the beads absorb body oil. Like in pure colors, the price is based on vividness of color, setting all their factors aside. Some chemicals in perfume or lotion I heard can stain jade but I’m not really sure about this.

The one encircled is a tourmaline, it’s bi-colored with a sleepy look.

The bright pinks are Mahenge spinels. :)

I would never have guessed tourmaline! It’s lovely! I love that peachy pink color and the sleepiness on this one is really attractive. Thanks for sharing a close up pic. :kiss2:
