As my original post said my sister is buying a colored stone for her new platinum set. My work did this for her so she could see different colors in a platinum setting with two side bands. Are sets are very different but thought this was cool and wanted to share :) WOOO She went with a blue Zircon but I am loving the new looks

Oh man! It''s hard to choose a favorite here

I''m loving the dark colors!

Wouldn''t it be neat if we could just change our center stone with our mood :) HEHEHEHE Someone please invent the interchangable head ;)

I love the two on the top row right, the blue zircon and garnet equivalents (to my eye at least). Tell me about it - I do wish I could pop my stone into and out of different settings as well as interchange stones!!

YUM YUM YUM!!! I WILL TAKE ONE OF EACH!!! I am not a huge marquise fan though (in a gemstone) I LOVE the red garnet!! Looks like a concave cut one too!!

wooo, the middle top one is the on my sister chose......I love the Richard Homer one top right...Like Mines :)

I love the peridot and the aquamarine with that amazing cut right next to it. Very cool! Thanks for sharing.

great job! and great rings!

row one: middle and far left....far left may be my fav of them all
row two: looks like a concave richard homer aqua....pale but the cut makes it work
row three: far right dark blue marquise

stunning....stunning i tell you....absolutely stunning wedding set! that is what i call going for the whole enchilada....definitely not settling for less!

WOOO, I talked to Richard Homer and he sent me these as other options.... What do you think... The Marquise is a Tanzinite from AJS....

Personally I think the tanzanite is to light. I love the color of the top center stone.

stop! no! it''s too hard to choose!!!!!

ok ... step away from the screen.,.......

i, too, think the tanz is too light, but i like the stones on either side of the middle one that MJO likes! that is a rather dark amethyst......would have to see it in person.

Yes, that tanzanite is way too light. I love the top middle stone also. What is the stone by the way? Love that color.

Question: When choosing a color center stone, will have to consider the hardness of the stone?
Can I just go with the color of my choice?

Can you tell me what the top round center stone is
and what is the stone on the third row to the far left?

its not just the hardness of the stone....its also some other issues: emerald is 'hard' but shatters easily.....and the reason its not usually used as a center stone e-ring. however, some stones if set with a bezel or other protection, will do just fine. much depends on how you plan to set the stone.

eta: there is as much to consider when purchasing a color stone as there is when purchasing a diamond....actually, i think more knowledge is required to purchase a good quality color stone. pick a color and then research the stones in that color. find out the moh and whether there are problems re cleavage. will the setting you want to use require heating and will your stone take that heat. every stone is going to have a tradeoff. only you can decide which tradeoff you're willing to make.

2nd eta: i would love to see that ring set with a really red garnet [not red/bround] or spinel or a spessarite garnet!

There are a lot of angles and shapes in that setting even without the center stone. To me it looks like a round center stone just adds another element and makes the whole thing too "busy." I like the square cushion and the marquis-shaped stones -- the marquis especially seem to tie the whole package together nicely. In the pictures it also looks like the real light stones colored stones don''t hold their own against that setting very well; I think it needs a medium or dark stone.

My 2 cents worth.
