Seeking Advice on Choosing a Graff Engagement Ring

I visited the boutique again a few days ago and tried on some yellow diamond rings. To my surprise, I really liked them! The stones were stunning and complemented my skin tone beautifully. I also appreciated the slightly more unique look of yellow diamonds. That said, I still love colorless diamonds too, so now I feel a bit torn.

For those who have considered both yellow and colorless diamonds for an engagement ring, how did you ultimately decide? Any insights would be helpful!

Sometimes when I’m torn like this, I remind myself that this won’t be the only diamond ring I ever own. That helps reduce the FOMO and sometimes makes the decision clearer for me.

We can love so many things!
What did your gut tell you when you first compared yellow vs colorless on your hand? For me, if I strip away preconceived preferences or thoughts and just pay attention to what my first reaction is. There’s that little inhale and exhale of air, I just kind of know. I hope you took some pictures, that helps too. Go back and try them on again, take your time. Can’t wait to see what you choose!

HI:

I agree @Bonfire, take your time. Try them on again...and again if need be. You might be surprised to learn what really "grabs" you.

For your budget, Maybe get two (x) one carats ring: one yellow and one white. Mix them up! Variety!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to report back and update anyone interested in this thread. I’ve been thinking a lot about all the advice and different perspectives shared here, and I’ve decided to pass on yellow diamonds and go with a classic colorless diamond ring. As much as I love the uniqueness of yellow, I realized I might get tired of it over time. I tend to wear very simple, neutral colors—beige, white, black, and gray—so I don’t think a yellow diamond would suit my style long-term.

As for size, I had the chance to try on various carat weights, and I found that around 2 carats looked best on me. Funny enough, when I tried on a 3-carat ring, it looked completely out of place—almost ridiculously huge on my fingers!

I’m still debating between a round and a pear shape, and this has been such a tough choice. I think pears are beautiful and really elongate the finger, but I’m not sure I love the bow-tie effect that can happen with them. On the other hand, round is such a classic and always looks nice, but I keep going back and forth on whether I want something a little more unique. So yeah, the pear is really making this decision harder than expected!

Yay @mishmish33 sounds like you're working through your preferences. A colorless diamond is always a classic, as is a round. You can always have a pear as your RH ring. Also with pears would you get something larger than 2cts?

Sorry, what is an RH ring?

Actually, I found that pears look larger than rounds, so I would probably go with a 1.5 CT pear. I didn't like the look of a 2 CT pear, it looked to large on me.

I have some fancy yellow diamond studs I inherited from my mother - if you love yellow diamonds, they make great earrings.

Sorry, a right hand ring. You'll probably need to get some cheap cz rings to see which shape you prefer!

Just an iphone photo in a bathroom mirror, but they really are nice.

Yes, they're beautiful! A great option to pair with yellow gold jewelry.
