Not an expert at all, but it seems like a good selection to me for that price. Personally, I would have gone for a higher color grade and the depth and table to be closer to each other, but that would have definitely raised the price.

If there were ANY chance that this was eyeclean, this would probably be my choice: http://www.exceldiamonds.com/diamond/31185.html

It might be worth calling and finding out...it does look like it could be a whitish inclusion that might not be noticable.

Is it better to have depth and table close to each other? I don''t recall reading that.

I may look into the excel diamond, but I like the current 60 day return policy at bluenile better than the 10 day policy at excel. I don''t want to pay the 8.25% tax at whiteflash as I am located in TX.

Thanks for the information so far.

Don't get an extremly thick girdle. No No! And that stone is so deep but I am no expert on Princess cuts. What are the desired table and depth measurements for Princess cuts? It looks like the run deeper than even asschers.

that diamond sounds good except for the ext thick girdle hiding ct weight...
i like a good value for the $$ so, if it were me, i''d ask Mark if this is a nice looking princess (he''ll tell you if it''s eye-clean) for <$100 more, it faces up slightly bigger & much whiter

good luck with your search!! =o)

An AGS 0 can't have an extremely thick girdle; but the numbers do look funny.

Thanks for the extra ideas. I appreciate the input. It seems like I can do better.

To answer some questions, according to this page:
http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fnc1.asp
the depth on an ideal cut is 64%-75% with table being 62%-68%.

Are shallower princess'' generally preferred?

don''t go with J color if you''ll be setting in W/G or platinum. I think the others are right. Why not look for a VS2 or SI1 instead and that way go to an I or H.

I am a bit late in replying to this thread, but some points here stand out, and I feel the need to correct them.

1. As for the original BN-stone, I think that the ''thick to ext. thick girdle'', as mentioned on the BN-site, is a typing-error. The AGS-report is unclear, but it seems like it says ''0.6 to 3.1%'', which is definitely not ''thick''. These numbers would also co-incide better with the other numbers. As such, all comments on the extremely thick girdle, and the stone lacking spread because of that are incorrect.

2. As a matter of fact, when comparing the spread of the BN-stone with the alternatives mentioned, there is basically no difference. So spread is not an issue.

3. In the same way, 72.2% depth is absolutely not deep for a princess-cut. I have written a number of articles about this, which you can find in the Pricescope-Journal. In fact, we mainly have experience in 2-chevron-princesses, and a depth of 72% is an absolute minimum in such princess-cuts to be able to get an AGS-0. I know that slightly lower depths are possible in more-chevron-princess-cuts, but this has no bearing on spread.

4. Because of the historic misunderstanding of depth in a princess-cut, the AGA-charts are somewhat outdated, and should only be used when considering a stone, not graded by AGS.

Live long,

I am sure that you could shop around and find another diamond with some different subtle changes. but if you like it I would go for it. I have had a good experience with Blue Nile and another site, www.shenoadiamonds.com, they received a bit of a bashing on PS, but my experience was great. I also like the different policies of both Blue Nile and Shenoa.

Good Luck

Thanks for all the commentary, it''s definitely not late! Maybe I can extract a few comments on this one as well

Just about all princess diamonds I have found have some type of ''thick'' girdle.

Thanks Paul for clearing it up about the depth. I never would have guessed that 70-75% was ideal for any cut. It''s good to know.
