The 30 years world combined economic, political, social and religious-and distigushing between the 4 is difficult. The fact that the war cannot be seen as a simple catholic vs protestant war of religion is most powerfully illustrated by te fact that Catholic France fought the war as an ally of the protestant princes of Germany against the Cathloic Hasburg forces of Spain and Austria.

The 30 years was not part of the 100 years war. It was parat of a larger conflict inspried (in Part) by the Protestand refrmation that lasted a century. The 100 years war was a much earlier conflict (1338-1453) fought btween France and England which actually lasted about 115 years. The 30 years war took place from 1618-1648.

But the statistics of 10million is perhaps greatly exagerrated. This is number is not possibly historically correct based on many documents.. since this decrease of 10 million is far greater than the 4 million who died from the black plaque and was said to kill off a 3rd of the population of the European 'sates.' It is also very improtant to remember that germany was not a country until 1870. Before which, it was just a geograhical term for a germanic indiviual states.

The French ad Indian war had NOTHING to do with these wars. IT took place from 1756-1763. Yes it sometimes called the 7 years War, yes... but that is another story.

I would suggest reading.. The Thrity years War by C.V. Wedgewood.

so much war...hard to keep track:

french and indian war: http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761575656/Seven_Years%E2%80%99_War.html

i said 100 years of war, not ''the 100 year war''. my reference was to 100 years of religious and power unrest which lasted from 1562 through 1660. additionally see reference to only 7 years of peace in the century, ''germany'' further fractured into more small states, and 1/3 ''german'' population decimated: http://www.litencyc.com/php/stopics.php?rec=true&UID=1121

even more interesting to me at this point is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mosmd/
the pilgrim v. puritan angle. i think i may may have known at some long distant time that they were notone and the same.......
