Setting ideas for my Gene yellow garnet...

Jereni:

I think it could be really, really pretty with a halo and side stones in yellow gold :)) Good choices and so fast, too!

Jereni - your idea isn't mad!!! I have something similar but it's an oval halo with pears on the side. What I would say is (1) the pears seem to disappear and you don't necessarily focus on them (although now I've pointed them out you probably will focus on them!) so I'm not sure if the expense makes it worth it (2) everything has to be in proportion and this can be challenging (3) will you have too much finger coverage because you've got your stone, then probably 2-3mm each side for the halo and then more mm for the moons? Have you measured your finger to see if it can take it?

As pictures speak louder than words here's the ring that I have so you can see how it works in real life. Again, hope it helps.

I'm not Jereni, but I think your ring is lovely and agree that perhaps due to their size, the sidestones look a bit like an afterthought - still pretty, but not necessary to the prime design.

LD, I LOVE YOUR RING OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahem, ok that was so inspiring :) It also really helps me visualize what it will look like in all yellow gold, and I like it! That is, I think I see white gold on the halo but yellow gold in other places.

I take your point about the proportioning of the sides. I took the stone to Quest today and talked to them about it, they are going to find half moon sides and then I'm going to go back and look it over before they start anything. I think I'll also have them set the half moons slightly lower than the halo so it looks more like they are growing out of it...

I also found this pic, which is a slightly different shape but I liked the idea of having a milgrain bezel around the side stones. Kind of integrates it with the center without adding more halo-ing.

Half moons with a halo is fine (I've seen this design by LOGR) but the proportion has to be done correctly or they'll look like a pair of ears on the head.

Agreed - and I very much don't want to end up with the ears or 'shoulder pads' look, lol. I think when they find the half moons I will take a picture and throw it in here to get your guys' thoughts.

Jereni - I'm glad that helped! Sounds to me like you've got some great ideas. Just be careful not to make the ring too busy looking. Sometimes less is more (unless TL is reading and then she would tell you the opposite ;) I miss her!). Don't forget the garnet needs to be the main course - the moons are just side dishes!

I'd love to see all 3 stones when they've sourced them for you! Fingers crossed you love them!

Jereni-Your garnet is really beautiful! I am so interested in seeing how this evolves. I have my heart set on getting either a tsav or yellow garnet, in either asscher or cushion cut to set in a ring. I have so many little sketches I made for this ring and mine has to have half moons. It will be my mothers ring, both of my sons names start with D, and both are January babies.
I love the half moons because they are shaped like the letter D & garnet is the birthstone.
I'll start a thread when I'm ready to purchase my goodies but am very excited to see what you choose.

Got an update from Quest - they found some half moons for me. What do you guys think?

0.39 ctw, F/G, VS2. Sorry about how weird the color of the garnet came out. It looks nothing like this.

I like it. The proportions look good. Are you still going to have bullets or tapered baguettes to the sides of the moons?

What do you think?

I like it too, good proportion. If it were mine, I would stick with those stones, keep it streamlined like that & not add more. But it sure would look great in all yellow gold, including the halo -- carry that beautiful yellow of the garnet across the diamonds with the yg. It's going to be GORGEOUS, no matter how you decide to do it!!

Perfection! At this point, it's so right that I'm not sure if I would add another set of sidestones to it.

Another vote for as is with those half moons. The proportions look great, kinda like meant to be :))

Yay, I'm glad everyone likes them!

I am doing most of what is mentioned above. I'm not doing any additional sidestones, BUT I did ask them for a 'barely there' halo, and milgrain bezels around the half moons. And all yellow gold with pave on the shank.

I thought the milgrain bezel would help tie the half moons in with the halo, without having to add halo to them as well.

They are so white and sparkly! It's going to be a very nice ring :)

Ok, because I am silly, I did a mockup.

Sorry for the threadjack, but LD, have you ever posted a thread about that FY ring?!? It's GORGEOUS! Do you mind sharing the color intensity of the main yellow diamond + it's measurements? It has fantastic finger coverage!

Brilliant mock up! Your IT skills are very good.

One thing that's missing - how are you going to set the half moons? Prongs or bezel?

Can you do another mockup just to sate my curiosity? Can you remove the halo and add the half moons to the sides and then diamonds on the shank?

Another version might be exactly as you've already got it BUT remove the diamonds in the shank? How about that?

It'll be interesting to compare I think!
