Hi! I visited the Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair (SJGF) 2013 and bought a few loose pearls. Rather than to spam the thread, thought that maybe it'll be better to start afresh with a new thread just for my 'babies'.

First, let's meet the 'loose' pearls:
img_9248.jpg

(pls ignore my SSP pendant lurking in the photo)

Specs:
Tahitian "Harvest" strand is 91.5 cm (36 inches) unstrung, 6-14mm, 77 pearls
Tahitian cherry studs are 11-12mm
Tahitian drops are 12-13mm (by about 17-18mm I think)
Oval gSSP is 13-14mm (by about 18-19mm I think)
gSSP drops are 10-11mm (by about 12-13mm I think)

If you are curious about the SJGF, pics of the interesting sights here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/singapore-jewellery-gem-fair-2013.194204/page-2

Ok, so settings...

Mulled over the settings for a while and this is what I have decided:

- Tahitian "Harvest" strand : Mystery clasps x 2 [1 for a detachable double looped bracelet part] - Not sure how workable this is, but I shall ask. I am wildly guessing that the strand will come up to about 37-38 inch after stringing? [dunno, is there some way to make a smart guesstimate based on # of pearls??]

- Tahitian cherry studs : Normal WG studs

- Tahitian drops : Inspired by Bsomlo's dangles, I shall adopt the same settings to wear them on my diamond studs... in WG.
Here are Bsomlo's pictures that she kindly shared and that I will show Mr Panos (from Golay). Love her brilliant idea of "drops on a short chain to fit snuggly with my diamond studs -- but still allow for movement"

- Oval gSSP : Found the YG settings from the Andy Muller pendants that I love so much...

Can see the side profile from this pic:

- gSSP drops are : Again inspired by Bsomlo's dangles, but her other one.

Bsomlo's original thread here and thanks to her again for generously sharing her settings that I love so much. :appl:

Bsomlo: I will finally be able to feel like a tai tai. Teehee. ;)) ::)

Fabulous choices icy and I think you will be very happy with them :appl: :appl: :appl: Those pendant settings are spectacular   So excited for you to get these back...how long will it take?

Icy -- first of all, your photography skills are crazy good! That opening photo is insane.

I'm honored you are using my pictures/designs to create your own pieces. (I have another one of these being created as we speak -- blue baroque akoyas to slip onto my diamond studs.)

Keep us posted!

That first photo is amazing!! I really have nothing else to add, other than that.

Thanks LitGeek, bsomlo & Jenncent. And LOL re: my photography skills.

bsomlo: Can you pls share your measurements for the drops? Was asked to get the measurements so that the jeweller can make to the desired design more accurately. Can you pls measure the length of the drop/metal fittings? Sorry to trouble you...

I can measure in about 12 hours, after work.

Icy - I've had drops made for my studs, and the exact length should depend on your ears. I like the tops of the pearl drops to hit just below the bottom of the ear lobe, and this length will depend on the placement of your holes and the length of your lobes.

Also, I was at an air show this summer, and there was a jewelry exhibit in amongst all the pilot gear, and the lady at the counter was wearing a stunning pair of Tahitian drops that she had attached to the Back of the ear. This had the effect of not dragging down the gemstone stud, which can sometimes happen when attaching the pearl at the front of the ear. I haven't tried this yet, as one of my earholes angles up to the back, so it probably would not work well for me. But, it is another possibility, especially for large drops.

icy_jade, your pearls are beautiful and represented well in your pic.

Fly Girl, very interesting. I'll try the back of the ear next time.
Also a wise advice about the measurement of the lobe and hole placement. Thumb up!

Ok, some change to the original plan. Can't do mystery clasp cos apparently it's fixed length only. So I'm going with my usual stardust ball clasp (yeah, I'm boring that way), no bracelet.

Earrings waiting for measurements and quotation, pendant awaiting quotation... (am guessing will cost quite a bit cos of the fat round YG part and diamonds ya?) :nono: and oh, may be able to get my strand back on Friday.

As for the Golay office, didn't see many pearls. All the good stuff were in the safe so wasn't exciting at all, and I didn't dare to delay his lunch any further.

Ah... measured a few times and checked again my small loop earrings that hit just below my lobes. I got 12mm. Does that sound about right to you? Erm or will the measurement change cos the hole gets stretched a bit when earrings are worn? I just press the ruler against my lobes to measure (erm, yeah found it hard  ).

Thanks bsomlo! Appreciate your help!
Btw do you prefer the shorter or longer dangles? Realised that your longer one was to suit your other earrings, and so for me maybe it makes sense to follow the purple dangles instead for both earrings?

I'm going to write my email now and keep it in the draft till tmr when I see your measurements to check k? Many thanks!

@HHPmom: Nice pearls are easier to photograph!

Icy -- I like both dangles. They swing/look different -- both are good.

The yellow gold chain is around 11 mm's long and there is a loop that it attaches to so the loop plus chain is more like 13 mm's long. The pink drop pearl is about 15 mm's long and about 9 mm's wide.

The white gold chain is only two links and is 6 mm's long with an added loop it connects to. The chain plus loop is about 9 mm's long. The white drop pearl is also about 15 mm's long and 9 mm's wide.

I just did a quick knotting of a harvest strand to wear to my birthday brunch. It started at 90cm (around 36inches) and ended up at 105cm 41inches. You can figure on about an extra inch with the clasp and a couple of inches from the knots. I love your necklace strand...wish I still had mine..someone bought it off my neck at the brunch. mixed feelings.. It looked stunning doubled btw You will get alot of wear out of that piece !

Thanks dear! In the end I went with 13 mm for the tahitians and 40mm for the SSPs for a long dangle. More on that later but really appreciate your help!

I was told to expect about 2 inches or so including the clasp.

Do you have pics of the harvest strand that you sold? So curious. And off your neck! Oh my... I've had folks joke about buying my pearls, but don't think I can bear to sell them...

So... for the pearl drops I thought to share all the various ones that I found on Pricescope. Perhaps useful to anyone who would like to make drops too.

Great pictures, I like all of them, and i really like the emerald one's.

Great idea to have them all in one post!

Love my new 'harvest' strand!
When I went to collect them today, Mr Panos mentioned that there is a bit of waiting list for them. ::)

A few shots:

Ok, sorry more than a few. Do love this strand. :cheeky:

Was arranging on the neck bust when the colours really caught my eye:

Neck bust shots! Took a few cos I think the strand looks a bit different depending on how it's positioned, what do you think? :loopy:

Ok, that's it. ::) ::)

Wow what a gorgeous rope

Beautiful Tahitian strand. Thank you for the eye candy this morning. I can imagine that others seeing that will want one, too.

Let us know when you decide how to position it for wearing. I still haven't decided for my harvest strand. I keep shifting it around.

Icy -- It's like you own many necklaces! Definitely different every time you rearrange the pearls! Absolutely gorgeous. Wear this beautie in good health.

Thanks LitGeek and Bsomlo!

Fly Girl: I think I like it in a rope/long so that I can look down and shift it around whenever I want to play with it. Guess it'll take a while to get to know all 77 pearls. My fav pearl is still the funny circled pearl with all the different colours, so I do find it centred most of the time. :D

I like the clasp you have chosen. Very nice. The strand is just lush. Enjoy your new beauty.

Hi icy jade, saw your post but how do we PM on facet lounge? Do I need to create an account for that?

Thanks 4RG! Btw I loved the 'look' you had on screen with those 3 strands of tahitians.

Ok.will do that and pm you after that.

Icy_jade, that strand is really special! It's just beautiful, I love the color play on the pearls. And your photos are fab!

Thanks Ltype! Strong tropical sun + light box makes for great photos I guess. I use an iPhone 5 for all my pearl photos so no fancy equipment. Do wish I can eliminate the black box reflection (my iPhone case is black) tho. But haven't been willing to spend $20 for a plain white case just for pearl photos.

Hi Rosebloom, do you mean another thread? Think I had this thread earlier. Would like to see Phoenix's SS drops so pls do post the link if you can find it. Thx!
