Should I add safety chain to my tennis bracelet?

I have a tennis bracelet that has a clasp that gets loose. It has one little locking gadget on the side. I look down on more than one occasion to see it has separated...but the little locking safety gadget kept me from losing it. I periodically tighten it with pliers to keep it tight when I close it. I also have a bezel tennis bracelet that I would have a heart attack if I lost. If the chain is small like JPie’s I would do it without a second’s thought..

of all the heart breaking things ive lost - and im talking things that adorn a wrist - the only thing i ever found again was a $7.99 beaded little thing in really long grass on a public walking track at least 2 hours latter

i would rather someone found something that was lost ...and you know maybe it would be nice if they made an attempt to find the owner ...but id hate something really valuable going under a council lawnmower or being run over in the street

I always lost my earrings as well but managed to find back 8 out of 10 times. The only 2 times I lost the jade stud and pearl stud got detached itself but the casing n backing still on my ear.

Mine is very similar. It has never popped off and I think most people assume it is fake. I literally just played tennis in mine... hope I don’t lose it! AB831FF6-1B66-4455-9751-90021BDB5EDC.jpeg

That is a lovely lovely bracelet! No it don’t look fake. I wish I have the courage to wear it daily..

I seldom wear bracelet n therefore don’t have the habit to eye check the clasp. But u are very lucky to spotted it when it’s separated every time!

Yes! JPie’s cute chain has the perfect size!

@Tiffany44 What a stunner. I love that setting! Do you mind sharing the specs and who made it?

Yes, a shorter safety chain is a good idea. I have a safety chain on my tennis bracelet and it does catch and get caught on things.

Thanks @Tiffany44 but I usually notice it when I’m ready to take it off before I go to bed!

My issue is I don’t like to remove my accessories, I wear my wedding ring n engagement ring to sleep As well. Not sure why I always tends to misplaced small items. That’s why it’s neither in the safe nor I’m wearing it

I would consider working with your local jeweler to change the clasp and locking mechanism. Get one that is very secure. Mine take an act of God to remove, and put on. It takes a lot of strength to push the clasp in. Sometimes I can't do it with one hand. My husband has to do it for me, and he worries about pushing too hard, afraid he might break it. Then the additional underside security clasp also requires a bit of effort to close and there is an audible click when it does. I have gone running in this bracelet, etc. Personally, I would worry about a safety chain since it might hook on something, I wouldn't realize it, and just break it.

Agree w/ @LLJsmom . I recently got a 5ctw tennis bracelet with her style clasp and it is amazingly secure. I’ve had bracelets with clasps like yours, @Tiffany44 , and found them to be not very secure at all, especially over time. I didn‘t wear them every day or even once a week, but had them fall off during normal wear. Fortunately I felt them slip off and didn’t lose them, but it got to the point I didn’t feel comfortable wearing them at all. I would inquire about changing the clasp or add a safety chain if that’s not possible.

Mine has a safety chain but not the side safety. It’s not removable so the bracelet has to be long enough to slip on my hand when the safety chain is fully extended. That means that theoretically, the bracelet could slip off if the clasp disengaged before I notice it, but I suppose that’s not likely given that I’d probably feel it literally slip through my fingers.

The gold bracelet next to it has a tongue & groove clasp with two side safety catches. It has nearly fallen off my wrist twice. I was debating whether to put a safety chain on it but ended up having a jeweler tighten one of the safety clasps, and I adjusted the main clasp myself. If it keeps happening, I’d probably put a safety chain on it.

So, to answer your question, why not. Might be worth discussing with your jeweler and maybe adding one that has a spring ring clasp so you’re not forced to slip your bracelet on.

LOL! You and the rest of PS wanna know...

I'd say yes. Two safety mechanisms are better than one and then that's one less worry that you'll have.
