Should I get a big heated darker blue?

  • Buy a smaller unheated! The size of your stones is getting ridiculous!

Wow!! That is a gorgeous blue sapphire ring! Congrats on your new addition to your collection!

You know what, I appreciate that you have shared more photos of this ring than I’ve seen of any of the other ones. I feel a tiny bit vindicated. How could you claim to dislike blue before!

I don’t know!!! Possibly because I didn’t gravitate towards blue clothing so thought blue sapphires were just meh as well. I have to hand it to Bulbasaur though, who I wear all the time and really showed me that blue was versatile enough with wear with other colours.

I am glad I decided on Gengar and somewhat prioritised size. I can’t help it! I like em big!

@mellowyellowgirl Why do you gotta do me like that...

One day I'mma save up and get me one such blue in a modest size. Provided, you know, blue sapphire prices settle a bit because what I'm seeing honestly scares me.

@Avondale I know mine isn’t as big but I just find this so inspiring!!! Look at the visuals from a distance!

@Crimson tagging you because I just love his stuff and need to see all the pieces you own by him one day!

Thanks @mellowyellowgirl it is a beautiful blue! Why wait for me? Go to Lisbon and visit his shop. I haven’t yet visited it either but am dreaming …esp after the rave review from my sister,

Went to buy nail polish for Lil Sis and could not resist doing this.

I swear the security guard thought I was potentially shop lifting. :lol-2:

I’m not a nail polish girl but I was so tempted to buy a bottle just for Gengar.

These ladies don't mess around, so prepare to be enabled!

Mine is but a wee fellow at just over 3ct. compared to your impressive knuckle busters.

Here's Inken's listing that made me fall in love (another PSer passed and I pounced):

And here's the ring I designed that she took such great care in executing:

How did I miss this? WOW

Absolutely stunning - both blues! Congrats!

@Autumn in New England sorry to drag you randomly in here but I didn’t want to start a new thread.

Can I bargain with JTV or no dice?

Any tips?

I certainly don't mind being "dragged" here! The average rep won't be able to help, but if it's high value, Alice might. Contact her at [email protected]. I have her cell too, but I don't want to post it publicly. She is positively lovely... as in, you'll fall in love with her instantly. When I bought my Mahenge, she put me in touch with the senior buyer, George, and I think I got a great deal. I hope Alice can help. Good luck! Can't wait to see what you're considering!!

Thank you so so so much Autumn!!!!

I’m struggling with heat vs no heat again @Autumn in New England!!!

Girl, I'm just envious you're shopping for another stone! lol

We all have different preferences, but I think most here would agree it's a perfectly acceptable treatment. As they taught us at the GIA, man is sort of finishing what the earth started. So my suggestion would be to buy the one you like best!

You’re not thinking of getting rid of your non-heated one again are you? I thought you decided to keep it because everybody was telling you how nuts you were to even think of selling it ha ha ha.

Nono I’m definitely keeping my non heat blue.

Deciding whether to pick up a heated or not. I almost pulled the trigger on one but @Dr_Diesel mentioned that heated stuff is hard to move these days which made me pause. Now I’m back into it.

@Dr_Diesel is that true of all colours, even heated rubies?

I just meant that the people in the trade here in Asia and in Europe are saying that heated material in all colors is harder to move.

In those markets, unheated stones are more in demand.

My impression is that Americans don’t care as much about heat treatment as people in other regions do.

Personally, I don’t discriminate. I think that each individual stone should be judged on its own merits. I would prefer a beautiful heated stone over an ugly unheated stone any day.

In Asia, however, they will often choose ugly, expensive unheated stones over beautiful heated stones just because they’re unheated. IMO, I think it defeats the point.

I prefer unheated if all else is equal,, but one of my ATF sapphire rings has a 3.51 heated blue in it and I LOVE IT.

In the end, I just see heated vs unheated, as nothing more than two different price points.
