I've been married for 10 years and have never had jewelry insurance on my e-ring and wedding ring. I love my jewelry, but always thought it was too expensive to insure the rings. In August, my husband bought me a pair of diamond stud earrings from Blue Nile (1.5 total carat weight). I started thinking about insurance. Does anyone here NOT have jewelry insurance? The earrings are screw-backs and I am thinking how I could never lose it since I turn that screw around like 25 times before it's right. And I live in suburbia and am careful when and where I go out - so I doubt I will get mugged. And I tend to wear my earrings, and rings most of the time, which is why I think I don't need it.

Now I am thinking maybe it is time to grow up and bite the bullet and get insurance for both earrings and e-ring/wedding rings? I got a quote from Chubb in August, as well as through my own insurance, MetLife. Chubb is expensive, but from what I read, the better choice? Can I still get insurance from Chubb or any other insurance company 2 months later after the quote?

Thanks!

Maxine, I certainly have insurance on my diamond jewelry. There are times jewelry can be lost or stolen. Diamonds also can be shattered or chipped while wearing them. The insurance premium gives me peace of mind. We just have mine added as scheduled items on our homeowners ploicy.

I think it''s worth it to insure anything over 1k. It''s sooo easy to loose a stud and the premium is so little compared to what it would cost to replace one. It will just give you substantial peace of mind.

Hi.

PLEASE insure them especially your engagement & wedding ring!

Your home policy will not pay out if stolen or lost because those are the "special limits" writen into most policy. I recommend calling your agent or reading your home policy esp. the section under "special limits of liability". And here''s my reponse to a another thread regarding stolen ring: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/a-friends-ering-was-stolen-insurance-help.52594/

I would insure - I had 2ctw rb solitaire diamond studs that were screwbacks that disappeared...

They had been a gift and it stupidly never crossed my mind to insure them - I had no idea at the time how expensive they were, and how expensive it would be to replace them!!!!

This is a decision that is best considered thinking about how much risk you''re willing to take.

You could choose not to insure the item and save years of paying premiums, probably not a bad decision if replacing the items would not hurt your pocketbook.

If replacing the items would be a financial strain, then best to take the risk and pass it on to the insurance company.
