Hi All,

I am considering purchasing my first super ideal diamond and looking specifically at Black by Gavin Brian in the Barbara Martini (3 prong design - chain not fixed) platinum setting. I am trying to decide on what the best size would be (0.5 ct and under). I am also colour sensitive so, given the diamond will be small, it seems to me to make sense to go for a high colour D or E. I find Any colour in a diamond really shows up under office lights.

Show me your diamond solitaire pendants with diamond size and colour specs please! Any other comments appreciated.

I am in Australia so I need to get my choice right - shipping things back is just not practicable.

Anyone?

I don't have any pictures to show. I have a 5 stone fixed pendant that's roughly 0.2ct each or just under 4mm, I think G-H colour.

With pendants and earrings you may be able to go lower in colour as you're not seeing it all the time, which would allow for a larger stone with a more visible presence on your neck.

Edit: Lol this is the best photo I could find. Screenshot_20201231-210056_Gallery.jpg

Thanks MaryJane. Your necklace is really pretty!

Thanks CMN and fellow Aussie. Happy new year to you. I'm sure whatever you decide you can't go wrong with Brian Gavin.

This is mine! It's a .40 F VS1 from Tiffany's. My then bf now husband bought it for my Bday only 6 weeks after we met. He bought me a bigger .75ct for my 40th, but this is the one I wear 24/7. I'm very attached to it.

Thanks Alex. Do you ever see the arrow pattern flash or is it too small for that?

this is my ungraded bezel set diamond slider pendant is platinum. It’s only .38 cts, probably I colour SI2

I can see arrows, yes, but only when I'm looking up close at it in the right lighting, holding it rather than wearing it. You wouldn't see arrows when I'm actually wearing it, unless you got REALLY close to my chest! It's extremely sparkly though.

Here's mine. It's a "half carat"but it measures small so I'm guessing around like 45 pts. It's my original engagement stone and was my mom's earring before that (we were poor!).

I feel like the size is very wearable without being tiny. I literally have worn it almost every day for almost 15 years! It's not a well cut stone and has lots of white inclusions, so I think about upgrading it to great stone in the 70-80 point range but I'm not sure if it's worth it plus this is very sentimental. We'll see!

I have two that used to be a pair of .50ctw earrings. They are each set in a bezel pendant, a sliding one in rose, and a fixed pendant in white. They are uncerted stones, approximately .25ct each, G/H color, no visible inclusions without a loupe.
The size is very easy to wear on a daily basis, but when I got a .70ct heart solitaire pendant I started wearing it instead. (I find that one easy to wear daily as well.)

I just bought a 0.3ct 4.3mm G stone. I have a huge neck, so it looks small. But it sparkles nicely. I think it depends on the look you are after. And how big your neck is! Showing it with my 10mm peach zircon. Diamond is at 18inches, zircon is at 20.5 inches. 20201231_232622.jpg

I’m surprised at how great the smaller stones look! I think there is a tendency to adopt a mentality that bigger is better but in this case I am just not sure.

For anyone who has both a sliding bezel set pendant and a sliding prong set pendant which one do you prefer and why?

I prefer the sliding pendant quite a bit. The fixed pendant seems to creep around when the chain moves while the sliding pendant almost is always centered.

Does anyone have the Victor Canera round bezel set stud pendant that they can show me?

The one on the upper left is a .53ct H
Top middle is a .30 D (set in RG)
Top right is a .53 F Pear
Bottom left is a 1.04 K
Bottom right is a .24

All rounds are H&A stones, and set either in Platinum or Rose Gold.

The color difference between my .30 D and .24ct H are impossible for me to see in that size. I think the biggest factor in how "white" they look is the setting.
The .53 F pear looks the "iciest" (is that a word? ) but that's more due to the cut I'm guessing.
Since they're all graded by either GIA or AGS, the colors are correct.

This is mine - very, very similar to the BGD Barbara setting, but made here in Australia.
It’s a 0.4ct F VS2, and I’ve had it for a few years now - I wear it daily with no issues. It’s the perfect size for everyday wear, I think. As for the arrows - it’s too small (and too awkward of a spot!) for them to be seen during wear, unless your standing very close to a mirror yourself!

This is a 0.45ct E VS2 oval, in 14k white gold, under office lighting. Small, but mighty. It's a fixed E-W setting. I won't be doing a fixed pendant again. I don't care for how the stone shifts on the neck during wear. I feel like I'm constantly fiddling with it and adjusting it.

I will tell you that when I tried one on at Tiffany I really felt like a .21 bezel set was a perfect size. It had plenty of presence! For me personally, for a necklace, I really love the under .5 carat size. Thank you for starting this thread!

I agree. I'm looking at a .40ct bezel pendant for my 40th next year, but I'm wondering if it will be too big!

Ok, two more comparison shots. The first is my 0.45 E VS2 oval with a 0.30 G SI1 round in rose gold. I do enjoy the size for a casual everyday necklace (though I am trying to sell this one to size up a bit, probably to a 0.50).

And here we have the 0.45 E and 0.30 G with a 1ct F SI1 pear in 14k yellow gold. Apologies the pictures aren't better, but I thought this might offer a bit of useful comparison.

Not sure if you were planning on layering. But can I also just add that my layering efforts have failed. This is me at the end of every day so far. A very... unique look.20210102_230054.jpg

I love this! I was just looking at a Tiffany’s pendant online too!

Thank you! It definitely feels a bit special. My husband had a little platinum heart added to the clasp, so I really do treasure it & I've worn it for so long that the new bigger one only really comes out if I'm dressing up. Which is zero these days

Thanks for all your help ladies.

I ended up purchasing a 0.41 ct semi custom platinum Martini pendant on free floating chain from Whiteflash. It arrived today.AD633CE3-649F-4BFD-A229-AD052BCA8BE7.jpeg
