I decided to set my AGL heated Ceylon sapphire like this using platinum head and darken 14K gold shank.

The "twins" are set in slightly darken 18k white gold.

I apologize for such a long post. Can you tell that I'm just mad about this metal choice!?

We need more details about that amazing looking sapphire! :kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2::kiss2:

Saw this important detail from the linked thread to @kevnick80:

"I tend to just wear the rings on the weekend when I’m not working. With black gold, the gold is rhodium plated and can easily scratch. That’s the downside to it. Looks fantastic though."

@2Neezers , how is your project going, any updates?

Thank you for reminding me to follow up on my post! My jeweler did add black rhodium to my ring and I like it!
The sapphire in the ring is purplish-pink, but it definitely looks more lavender than it did before the black rhodium was added. Maybe it’s because there is a bit of the blackened metal under the sapphire reflecting into the stone..5619E3A9-71C6-4135-A17A-F741C40DD4EF.jpeg

I saw your ring when it was posted on Instagram and it stopped me in my tracks! It’s stunning :kiss2:

Feminine with an edge, care to share a hand shot with us?

I’ve heard that too. So far my 18k holds up well after years and will report back about the 14k if otherwise.

Sharing @kevnick80 's smashing collection for reference.

Cannot stop loving CS pieces set in darken metal + spiky accent diamonds. My latest amusement, a 2.45ct natural spinel ring set in 14k wg with natural and lab diamonds by DKJ.

Ooh love this Neptune! The spinel is like a fang!! The spiky diamonds and blackened metal are perfect!

Out of interest, why did you choose by natural and lab diamonds for this project?

I have….many…CS rings with black rhodium, but I imagine you’re interested in women’s rings as examples?

This latest addition is awesome @Neptune!! I saw it on DKs insta and knew it must belong to a PSer

Here are a few “Glamour Shots” I have saved on my phone. I’ll try to do more later in the week.

Most of them are blacker than they look in the photos, but the “glamour shot” lighting makes them look more gray

You & me both! IMO, the black rhodium makes everything pop - from colored stones to diamonds.

I love everything about this from the vibrant spinel to the inverted MRBs and black rhodium to the beautifully executed French cutdown.

The design is perfect for that stone as well. It really generates interest. Actually both of the rings on your hands do that. Did you design both of them?

They are truly exquisite!

Is that the ring DK had up on Instragram last week?! It’s a work of modern art.

They are amazing! Do you work with the same jeweller?

Oh, I thought of the Topkapi dagger but I like fang, good one! I was wondering how you feel about it. Glad you like it too because I DO.

Girl, you ask good question and I don’t even know for sure. The spinel and design work are my pride and joy, not the diamonds, maybe? It took me over a year to warm up to the idea, because why would I want to mix lab with my natural diamonds, right? No, no, no!

Someone wise once said that if you cannot tell them apart, join the party. Since I never have a strong emotional attachment to accent diamonds, I decided to stick it to the natural diamond industry by switching, ha.

The natural diamond is from the pendant. The upcycling works out perfectly and it has fluorescence, fun. Want to guess which one it is?

Peculiar cut calls for peculiar setting, no?

From pendant by an unknown goldsmith with the letter G stamped on the back, what to call the spinel, a Burj Al Arab cut?

I like the spinel. It is shallow so pendant made sense but it’s just not my jam. I really wanted to “do something about it” to make it mine.

To ring set with 1 natural + 29 lab diamonds by DKJ

On the contrary, I’m completely NOT interested in lab gems and still absolutely obsessed over original vintage bracelets, weird conundrum.

@Neptune you inspired me to set the black diamonds inverted on my ring enhancer project.
Now I want a coloress lab diamond one set inverted with black rhodium!

IMG_7381.jpeg

I'm flattered! Thank you. Aren't they fun and not at all prickly, right? I want contrast with texture too so the front one are spiky while the back ones are set regularly.

Looking forward to see your new one.

Ahh interesting that the natural diamond is left over from the pendant - that makes more sense! I was wondering why you would go for some natural diamonds in the melee but not others.

I’m guessing it’s the one right at the bottom of the V (at the base of the fang/dagger)?

Also - what a great eye / vision you have. I would have passed on the pendant in its original setting but, free of it’s shackles, that spinel is amazing :kiss2:

You have great ideas! That would be fun under UV light, the spinel will be like this while the natural diamond will be blue. How did I not think of that?! Too bad I placed it at the back bottom V.

This baby was begging to be free from the stiffness of the old setting, a well made one but so "flat/two dimensional".

Freedom!

They are all my designs but made by different goldsmiths.

Sako made the tsavorite ring and the one with the fat pear-shaped red spinel.

The diamond (Octavia) ring wade made by CvB.

The sapphire ring it is pictured with was made by Marilu Designs over 20 years ago.

The others were made by a couple of Armenian brothers in Bangkok who no longer work with the public. I guess they got too big and now they’re only doing outsourced Manufacturing for large jewelry houses.
