Seriously envious, so hard to find specimens that aren't so brittle they crumble and I can't imagine the cost of those two now. They're beautiful. I can't wait to see the necklace.

Paraibas really glow in any light setting. They could be “glow on the cloudy day” gems. Other gems, like the emerald depicted, really need sunlight to glow and the inclusions help to scatter the sunlight. A good red or hot pink spinel will glow on s cloudy day too if it has strong enough fluorescence. The third photo has a pink spinel, but it doesn’t “glow,” but the paraiba next to it does. The mint garnet in the first picture is very bright, but the trillion spinels around it really glow in the sun.

This is morning, about 8-9am. my house faces east so I get a big ol blast of sunlight .

The ruby is unheated, 8.99x6.51, set in platinum with about 1.3 carats of baguette diamonds. I love the color of the ruby...though it is not for everyone as there are definitely lots of inclusions! My very lovely husband purchased this for me from his hospital bed after a nasty emergency appendectomy as a "thank you for making me go to the ER and saving my life" gift
