Thanks Rubies-R-Me and diamondseeker2006! It's the 36mm automatic. I need a bigger watch because I am blind. I am so excited to finally own a Ballon Bleu. I have been wanting one forever.

It is a beautiful watch! I got the Tank Francaise first because I think it is more casual for everyday, but I do have the 33mm BB on my wishlist!

Thanks! I originally wanted the tank or the Ballon Bleu but then I got my Michele watch which is shaped very much like the tank. So Ballon Bleu it was. :naughty:

1981 oyster perpetual datejust in stainless steel.

This is my watch. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My watch is my best friend. It is my life. I must wear it as I go through my life.

My watch, without me, is useless. Without my watch, I cannot tell time. I must wear my watch daily. I must tell time more accurately than my fellow man, who is trying to tell the time as well as me. I must know the correct time before he does. I will...

My watch and I know that what counts in telling time is not the colour of the watch, the diamonds it carries, or the noise it makes. We know that it is the time that counts. We will know the correct time.

My watch is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its dials and faceplate. I will keep my watch clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

Before God, I swear this creed. My watch and I are the defenders of the correct time. We are the masters of tardiness. We are the saviours of poor time management.

***
Watch given to me by my father. Its older than me and just got it back from rolex service centre although I had to exchange the original dials and face (ouch).

Now THAT is a classy, elegant watch! No bling as it doesn't need it. Stunning.

LOVELOVELOVE Rolex! Great color combo too. :appl: :appl:
Is that mid size or lady's size?

Beautiful, really like the diamonds on the dial.

Mine is just a plain tapestry dial. I paid $600 four years ago to have it serviced and it still runs a bit fast.
My solar powered Citizen keeps better time. I think I read somewhere that there are ways to set it
on your nightstand to make it run faster or slower? I could be crazy too.

Cf...try laying it to rest with the crown up at night when you go to bed.

"Crown" like in the part where you can wind it (or change the date)?

And WHY would that be?
What's going on mechanically?

Thanks Rubies. I love the single tone. A little less casual than the two tone.
Lady's size. For refernce, my wrist is 5.25 inches. I think this is 26mm.

Yes, with the crown pointing towards the ceiling. There are 4 different "resting positions" you can try with mechanical watches to see which position will be the most accurate, crown up, crown down, dial up, dial down.

Thanks DF, I'll give that a try. I normally don't take my watch off, I sleep with it and it goes into the shower in the morning.
Hubby leaves his on his nightstand and I think his runs fast as well.

Hi...

I'm Jen and a newbie here at PS. I found this lovely forum after I learned that my baby brother was likely going to propose..and to be honest, I was a bit jelly (being a single gal myself). So I thought it was high time to treat myself to my first high end jewelery purchase. I'm much more of a low key, low bling, custom sterling silver kinda gal. But I have been lusting after a nice watch to replace my 20 y.o. Swiss Army knife watch I bought at the original Filene's Basement in Boston...but had kept putting in off.

But, after many months of searching for the right watch, I think I found it this week. It's a vintage (c. 2005) Breitling Starliner Diamante...that I purchased for a steal  (you can take the girl out of the sensible midwest, but you can't take the sensible midwest out of the girl). I'm still getting used to the bling (but somehow the cost factor makes me feel less guilty about the watch  ). I am also waiting for a extra link for it to fit my chubby wrist (to wear it every day), but here it is!

Thanks for all the great info and can't wait to get to know everyone!

Jen

PS...I am short on earrings too..and instead of buying yet more sterling silver that I keep changing/losing, I'm thinking about some diamond hoops or studs, so don't be surprised if you see more posts from me :D

I don't have luxury watches. Where would you recommend a gal start? What's a good starting place?

You might look through this thread to see what styles you like best. Then if you have more questions, start a thread in Hangout so people will see it!

Second hand can be a good way to save money and get a very nice watch, especially when there is one that has seen little wear. Several people have sold great watches on the pre-loved forum here.

Setting a budget will narrow down what your options can be, too.

Thanks MC and Catmom! It's a great statement piece!

Here is my newest watch. I just love the color
