Question... what is the general consensus around these parts with regard to Zambian and Ethiopian material? Out of the 4 (including Russian and Afghan), which is the most collectible/valuable? My knowledge sort of begins and ends with Colombian material. TIA!
Russian > Ethiopian > Zambian in general
The finest Afghan emeralds (saturated color and large) resemble the finest Muzo emeralds, and I can see them (though most very fine Afghan emeralds would be already in collector's collections and not for sale) being valued higher than Russian emeralds. Most Afghani emeralds, due to small size, fall in between the prices of Russian and Ethiopian emeralds.
Ethiopia is a source that has dried up if I recall correctly, so they are rarer than Zambian emeralds.
Out of these four sources, Afghanistan is the only one to have some stones with the same characteristics of Muzo emeralds. Russian emeralds more resemble Chivor, not Muzo.
