Hahaha I also really liked the heart that @YC got but I ended up with this instead. Included and native cut but the stones with nicer cuts etc couldn’t beat the color or the glow of this Mahenge spinel... 4.1ct

Oh that is stunning! I absolutely adore spinel! I think sometimes you just have to accept a few inclusions if they do not detract from the overall beauty of the stone.

@icy_jade 's pink spinel is big and gorgeous. Our stones look similar in colour and glow, except @icy_jade's has a better cut. I think that these may be from a same batch.

I went shopping with 2 fellow PSers ( they may identify themselves in other threads or subsequent posts). The last thing I was planning to buy was another pink gemstone simply because I have quite a few pinks. However, when the vendor showed us his Mahenge spinels, I was unable to resist. It is such a bright happy pink! And it performs well under different lighting conditions.
Many of you will notice that it is windowed and included. Despite its imperfections and the heart shape, I was drawn to it. So the next project is to set it so that I can enjoy it further.

It is 2.61 carats, by the way.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with the cut.

I suspect because the colour is so strong and fabulous, any windows are no longer an issue.

I know what you mean. I started out thinking of getting perfect gemstones with precision cuts but have since realized that I am really quite forgiving of flaws if I love the stone.

Window is small. Should be fine after setting. Fat cute heart shape

Not sure how to set. I think I will wait and see if any stock settings as usual.

Wriston brought in a pile, and I mean literally a pile of mahenge spinels that I happily went through yesterday...



And shortlisted 6 spinels that I was rather tempted by, despite my recent acquisition. Some more tempting than others... hmm...

Anyway I was there in the evening just before sunset and the light was pretty bad so I arrowed my spinel for comparison... irl the spinels are quite pretty obviously


Was particularly tempted by the one next to mine here...

Read a post by an IG seller dissing mahenge spinels as being sleepy/silky and wannabe vs Burmese red spinels. So came back to go through all the beautiful spinels in this thread and I’m like... really?? Anyway ok fine is personal opinions and all that.

Did make me take out my ring to wear today... still love how neon it can look

Unfortunately no... I could not come up with any interesting idea other than with a single halo and maybe tilted a little along its long axis, but thought it looked a little boring....And now with the high gold prices, I think I will wait till I have better inspiration.
