Got my Mahenge over the weekend. The color on this thing is gorgeous in person! The pictures definitely did not do the stone justice. The cut leaves some to be desired, but its not terrible. I was more interested in getting the classic saturated reddish pink color, and this stone is just that.

So I chanced it and asked Yvonne if she would accept split payments over a period of time, agreed on payment terms, and that's it.

Therefore, it may be worth asking Yvonne about split payments to avoid disappointment on missing out on the ones you are eyeing.

I'm so glad you got it! Yvonne's got a very good eye for color and that promises to be an amazing gem. Any setting ideas yet? Going to get it done by diamondmounts?

Not sure about the setting yet. Although I really love the diamondmount's flower ring, I believe it is too much for wearing to work. I shall post some ideas in my 2016 thread so as not to thread-jack.

Minousbijoux thank you! Yes the green garnet garners attention where ever (she) it goes just like a supermodel! It catches light like a green curprian tourmaline but is even more sparkly. Even in low light it glows boldy green.

My avatar is a Mahenge spinel. In many lights it has a unique padparadscha like color (as I tried to catch here in the pic in weak yellow light, my phone tend to go more on the pink side) in other lights it often reminds me more on a watermelon color (daylight pic in avatar/seller pic). Its not the classic Mahenge color but I like that untypical range of colors that one shows very much.

Hi everyone,

showing off first Mahenge Spinel in my collection(though already out of my collection ready to be set in an engagement ring ). Precision cut by MVMGems this guy is only 5.2mm in diameter but I really love it, especially the color it's quite unique. The photos are in dim natural light. It's quite hard to make photos showing how it looks, it's not at contrasting under most angles for example.

Anyway I used to lurk this forum from time to time so I decided to post finally.

Interesting things happen under artificial light, pink is now mixed with reddish, together with blackened parts it has lava like quality to it, it's very alive and has that advertised 'glow'. I'm quite pleased with pink spinel, it is an unusual stone, no wonder people here love it.

I went shopping with 2 fellow PSers ( they may identify themselves in other threads or subsequent posts). The last thing I was planning to buy was another pink gemstone simply because I have quite a few pinks. However, when the vendor showed us his Mahenge spinels, I was unable to resist. It is such a bright happy pink! And it performs well under different lighting conditions.
Many of you will notice that it is windowed and included. Despite its imperfections and the heart shape, I was drawn to it. So the next project is to set it so that I can enjoy it further.

It is 2.61 carats, by the way.
