Show your Agates!

Also recently discovered that this pendant, which I thought was agate and posted in this thread, Is a dendritic opal! Oops...

It's a beautiful pendant. So how did you come to know it was opal and not agate? I would have thought agate too......

I discovered just by chance browsing and then reading about. The inclusions are often metal which can make it harder to work with given that the opal is so soft. It has a very distinctive look... with greys and blacks and shades of white.

It took me a long time to actually do something with these, to which, I made a necklace with pearls and hemetite. I think they were 2 dollars a strand at a gemshow. (the pearls are natural freshwater lavender though against the more neutral gray they show their pink side)

I wish I could do a bangle but scared that my wrists/hands will swell and I couldn't get it off.

Super cool! Those beads are gorgeous!
You could do a bangle, just measure a little larger than you can squeeze your hand together...and then windex is great for swollen days.

When I was a little girl, my first ever beloved rock was an agate that I got in one of those tumbling rock kits. I wanted one of those forever. This one reddish yellow agate had such beautiful banding, it reminded me of the planet Jupiter! It even had its own red spot! I would carry it with me everywhere. I wish I still had it.

They look fabulous
Do you have enough left to do a stretch bangle maybe ?

How about picture agate? this one look like monkey or some head =)2 Actually this is the first stone that I have and I always put it on my working desk eversince. Not sure if that picture is 100% natural or not tho

Looks like a "Laker" - Lake Superior Agate. The color, the banding, but you rarely see them cut in slices like that. So, it could be Brazilian. Color looks natural. Many Brazilian agates are dyed to neon colors.

Another small wonder of nature!

These stones are so beautifully colored yet translucent.
Are they fragile?

Here is one of my Victorian Scottish "pebble" (agate) bracelets. This one is either from the 1830s or the 1880s, depending on who you ask. It's set in gilt metal. I have several, but this is probably my favorite. IMG_4869.jpgIMG_4917.jpg

this could be my absolute favorite of this thread

Some of my antique agates from the glory days of eBay, when you could get treasures for a song. Top to bottom:
1. Cornelian (orange agate) necklace from maybe the 1930s. This one's very flattering in its length and color. I end up wearing it more than the one below it, though that one's "better."
2. Victorian striped agate choker-length necklace with 18K spacer beads. I think this was probably cut down from a longer necklace.
3. Victorian striped agate bracelet. I think this was probably made from part of a necklace, or parts of other things.
4a. Landscape agate brooch, maybe first half of the 20th c? I've seen lots of these around, but I don't know exactly when and where they were made--do any of you know? The frame is gold.
4b. Scottish Victorian bracelet. I suspect this one was originally a link or two longer, but it fits my small wrist well. (I'm a stout woman with little wrists.)
5. Another Scottish Victorian bracelet, my favorite (see previous post).

And here are my best agates: a pair of Georgian or early Victorian cravat pins, agate globes with gold snakes wrapped around them. One has a tiny mine-cut diamond set as an eye in the agate. Ah, the glory days of ebay!

Moss agate and 14k, the stone is translucent with incredible green tendrils and subtle clouds. The stone‘s outward appearance changes according to what‘s inside the locket. It’s a reward I bought for myself upon embarking on a new career - Wanted to wear it every day on trips all over the world; thanks for spoiling that, Covid! Viruses suck!
It looks great layered with my Georgian-inspired diamond necklace - something about the moodiness of it reminds me of Ireland.

Absolutely breathtaking! I'd love to see the Georgian inspired necklace you wanted to layer it with- I bet it'd be fabulous!
