Show your gems that look good in all lighting

We have some incandescent but mostly LED. My kitchen has the ultra cool LED’s (they come in varying degrees of warmth) and I love how gems look in them.

This is what we have in our beach kitchen too. The ultra cool LEDs. Bubbalah looks beautiful in them. (But I am biased and think she looks good in all lighting so NM).

Greg has the medium warmth LEDs in his tool shop. I will have to evaluate my stones under his lighting too.

Your ring is gorgeous! I adore that setting. May I ask who designed it?

Hallo! It is actually a stock setting I found at my jewellers. I was so happy to find it because it worked so well with the slight "roval" shape of the stone and also because I adore halos and am determined to try all sorts of different halos! This one was different

This one was different

Yes, it is different. That's why it caught my eye. I'm not a huge halo fan but this one is so unusual and elegant. Lucky you!! Well done!! =)2

@mellowyellowgirl, to sum up your pink spinel in three words:

Damn she fine! :kiss2:

Also as a complete aside I think they got rid of the pink emoji with the heart, that makes me sad.

@strawrose is that a tourmaline in the center of your ring? It looks shifty!

@voce heheh yep. For some reason, I like it better than the paraiba on the sides.

So excited to come across this thread because I finally got some gorgeous outdoor pics of my 1.88ct purple asscher Spinel e-ring! Ring size 6.5 it's a bit big when my hands are cold that's why I have it on my middle finger in some pics

Direct sunlight, it sparkles more IRL and doesn't look quite as dark

Outside as the sun was going below the horizon. I LOVE this one but in IRL it's more purple & subtly pinky peach than in the pic

@vvoce can you direct me to a thread about that knockout kite shaped ring with the emerald (?)

That's not an emerald, but a tsavorite garnet. I got the garnet from a PS'er spring 2018. The color was mintier as a loose gem, but had darkened upon setting. The kite shaped setting is from Ivyandrosevintage on Etsy, who have also done business as The Filigree Room and mydiamondzone on Ebay. There are 3 more pictures of it in post #121 of the thread Voce's Gemstone Ramblings. I did not create a separate thread for it, because I sent it in as 1 of 5 rings to set, and there was no design involved. I'm lazy, and I tend to start threads only if they're more involved projects, or if people request such a thread.

@T L , wouldn't many of your emeralds look great too?

Yes, but the photos are terrible in most lighting. Emeralds, as many vendors and consumers have attested to, are incredibly difficult to photograph. I did love this picture of my favorite emerald in the morning sun though. It was so beautiful, I was gasping, but still the photo isn’t quite reality.

My son said it’s the greenest thing he’s ever seen!

There’s also a room in my house with optimal incandescent lighting, and they look incredible in it, but again, the camera can’t capture that extra special velvety dimension, nor the color quite perfectly. My best emerald is nicer than the others, but it just looks dark in this photo. At least I tried!!! My lighter emeralds are more photogenic like the one on my forefinger. It’s much lighter in tone than my finest emerald, but in person, the darker stone looks more gemmy.

And then in really strong direct sunlight, they just glow madly, as if they had strong green fluorescence. It’s amazing.

@T L You've convinced me that one can never have too many emeralds. It's crazy how they look like completely different stones depending on the lighting of your photos. Goes to show how impossible it feels to accurately capture the color!

@T L show them off under low/dim light, PLEASE

Very low dim light. Again, they look rich and glowy In person. This was outside at dusk with a dim light nearby. C572F355-2793-43DC-BCA8-EACBD017A1CE.jpeg

I personally think that emeralds look more majestic and interesting under dim light.

Thanks for the kind words on the emeralds!! Spinel time now. They’re going to have to bury me with this ring I love it so much. Yes it does go slightly grayish blue in sunlight, but it’s basically a sapphire by day and a tanzanite by night. I even got double prongs since it’s an 18k setting and I’m terrified of losing her.

I keep it super clean because the luster and brilliance just add to the magic. Top photo is artificial light, and it always looks this color no matter the kind of artificial light. The other photos are sunlight.

@T L, how does your medium (medium light?) blue sapphire hold up under dim light?

I have two blue sapphires. One is a denim grayish blue, and looks the same in all lighting. It’s medium light. It’s not a very saturated blue. The other is in a pear bypass with a red spinel. It goes more gray in artificial light. It’s beautiful in sunlight. That is more of a medium tone.

What a great idea for a thread! My gem that looks good in all lighting is the blue zircon Jerry Newman recut for me. Her blue tone lightens or darkens depending on light, but she is always lovely and lively.

Since so many gems have a color shift or change that some people deem less desirable, this thread is devoted to your less moody gems, the ones that look great in cloudy weather, sunlight, fluorescent light, other incandescent/artificial light. I’ll start with one of my moonstones. When fine quality, these very underrated gems have so much to offer. I love them!!!!
Photos are from left to right.

This is an easy question for me. My Cartier Black Opal looks amazing (IMO) under all lighting conditions. I don't have it with me unfortunately but let me look for old photos to illustrate this point.
