And oh, we have decided, thanks to all of your helps (you guys are WONDERFUL, this forum is AWESOME), we have decided to go with the yellow cushion cut with the two half moons. My cousin is proposing this weekend. *finger's crossed*

Wonderful choice!!! Your mom is very generous to part with such an extraordinary ring. Good luck to your cousin!

That's great! I have one suggestion though. I know he wants to propose this weekend, but I'd have him consider having the stones reset. Using the center and half moon sides in a nice well made simple setting will elevate it to "herloom" status sense its a fresh new setting made just for her. And it would probably add a bit of a modern twist. I'd bet ERD could reset it stunning for under 2k....it would be the most stunning 2k ring you've ever seen :wink2:

Thank you guys so very much for all your suggestions, but I think we'll go with the ring as is. Should the lady choose to re-set the ring, she may very well do so in the future. since the ring itself is very flexible and could carry many different styles of stones. Anyway, thank yous!

So did she like the ring? Honestly if it were me to make sure the girl gets something she loves not something everyone else picks for her, I would allow the nephew to take the radiant, the yellow cluster type ring, the P coloured solitaire and the blingy ring that you like (the first one of your pics) and get her to pick her favourite one and that becomes "the ring" and he gives the rest back to your mother.

That way they both have input and start the engagement happy. I speak from personal experience on this one because my mother in law picked my engagement ring raved to everyone how stunning and wonderful it was to all the family members and I really hated it for years....

Well, he ended up choosing a 0.90ct F colorVVS2 but with fair cut. I'll post the picture in a jiffy. I still think the ring is quite stunning though.

He took it straight from my personal jewelry box (who says a man can't love his bling? As the hardest natural substance out there, it's should be natural that men gravitate towards diamonds. DIAMOND IS MY BEST FRIEND TOO :appl: ). This is the ring he's taking to propose, TODAY!

Do not mind the fat finger. It's my finger. It's hairy and dry, but lets focus on the ring.

This is me getting the ring @ my jeweller cleaned for today

And to wash your traumatized eyes of the sight of my hideously conditioned finger, here's mommy's five carat-ers also getting cleaned that day. N color (obvious yellowish tint), but with gorgeous clarity of VVS1 and excellent all around.

Wow, well this was a very fun thread!!
I thought you were a great 'host' in your thread, OP.

So your cousin did a swerve at the last minute and chose a ring from YOUR jewellery box?!
Well you certainly is a very lovely and extremely wearable ring to choose.
Although, of course, depending on where you are living, it is possible that your cousin's new bride might not be expecting to wear her engagement ring every single day.
Although it certainly is a lovely tradition to do so! :)

And...now that your cousin has made the choice, there's nothing to stop Mum from giving a lovely wedding gift to the new bride...perhaps even after the birth of a first child?!
(God knows I would have appreciated - AND DESERVED - a lovely gift from the family at that time of my life heheh).

In that case, I would choose the emerald heheh :Up_to_something: .

Thank you so much for letting me see all your Mum's lovely rings!

WOW! Fantastic jewels! Thanks for sharing. It sounds like your cousin has made a wonderful selection. Can I marry into your family too? 8)

Yeah so if your mom could just Fed Ex me that canary diamond with the halo that'll be great....
:naughty: Lol!

Wow, what a stunning collection! I am in awe! He made an lovely choice and I am sure she'll adore it! Thanks for sharing all these photos

Sorry for being away too long. Between work and personal life (more work than anything, actually) I had NO TIME to spare updating you guys. It was great and the ring was AMAZING. My mom just got herself some more amazing pieces (diamond necklaces to DIE FOR). I'll try to post some in a new topic. Thanks guys :appl: :appl: :appl:
