Smartphones And Your Marriage

One of my dearest friends would always take her phone out when we went to dinner, turn off the sound, and store it away. It made such an impact on me because my generation (older millennial) and younger ones rarely do this. She made me feel SO important and that she valued me. Truly the greatest gift we can give our loved one is our time + undivided attention. My dear friend passed away in March from an illness and I vowed to carry that lesson she taught me, among other, forward.

I’m shocked to see kids my sons age (8) have smartphones as I worry about the later impacts. However, after the tragic Uvalde shooting, I did get my son a GABB phone. It has no internet, no apps and people can’t text pictures. It is a phone created by moms who want their kids to have a way to call them but without the other issues smartphones come with. It is also inexpensive. I find because it doesn’t have internet or game apps, he doesn’t use it much other than to sometimes call his grandparents.

Just realized I commented on a thread from 2013

I started reading and was like "People still use blackberry's??:lol:

Actually, the demise of physical keyboards and move to capacitive screens broke me of the cell phone habit. With my blackberry, I was responding to/sending work emails around the clock even on vacation. With my long fingernails, I never mastered typing on the phone screen. So when the blackberry went away, I stopped replying and sending emails unless it truly could not wait. As I got comfortable with the need to respond right away, it made putting the phone away easier.
