I have 2 colour change garnets: a cushion (1.02ct) and a pear (1.11ct). Both have nice colour changes. The cushion goes from green to amethyst-like purple, the pear is teal to amethyst-like purple. They seem to be best under natural sunlight (but in the shade) and halogen/incandescent. It looks weird under office fluoroscent light. The two colours blend when the sunlight isn''t strong enough indoors (office window). However, the cushion turns into a smokey yellow green while the pear is a dark smokey purple & blue. Is this normal?

What is the best way to set these gems? Will melee diamonds overpower the ccg because these stones aren''t as bright as corundum? Is it best to set it as a solitaire with busier mounting? I expect the mounting has to be more open to allow lightwaves to change the colours of the ccg.

Does anyone want to give the above questions a try?

Hi Chrono,

I like simple. I would set it in a solitare to show off the stone. I have a tennis braclet of these in much smaller size that looks great. Just the CC garnets with nothing else. If you what to get rid of one of those let me know . I''ld make a ring to match.

Hi MJO,

There''s no way I''m giving these CCGs up. I shopped around the net for a year to find these, sometimes on a daily basis waiting to see which vendor had updated their websites. I had my select PS coloured stone vendor websites that I scoured like AJS, DiamondExpert, Multicolour, etc. I passed over so many others and returned two in the process. These two are very pretty ones and I''m planning on having them set in a ring. Actually, I only wanted one but when the second one showed up, it was too beautiful to let go and I snapped it up right away.

So, one for a ring but what to do with the other? I don''t think the colour change will be as noticeable in a pendant.

. i agree with mjo, i think something simple would be nice, that way you reallly show off the beauty of the stone. maybe you can get a nice simple scrollwork basket setting? i think that would be nice

Belle,

I love the simplicity of the blue second one. I agree, make 2 rings.

Belle,
Where did you get the picture for #2 (pear)? I want something simple but not plain. No pave and no engraving. No Eiffle tower setting either. The second setting seems to fit the bill for the pear.

Chrono,

Do you have pictures of your CCG''s?

chrono,
they are from www.billbarnes.com

here's a couple more ideas....

(ditto....can we please see your garnets!!?)

Thanks, Belle.

MJO,
What a tennis bracelet. It is just awesome.

I found a picture of my pear but it''s in a pdf format with a bunch of descriptions. If someone would be kind enough to help me cut and paste, I can post a picture of the pear ccg.

chrono,
if you email me the pdf file, i will post the pear

Okay, I finally found a picture that I could edit in Paint. It''s a pretty bad cut and paste job but at least it gives you an inkling of the shape and colour.
