I just recently got engaged, and I am so EXCITED! I also just recently discovered pricescope (after my now fiancee purchased the ring). I don''t know much about diamonds, but I know I love my ring. My diamond is almost 2 carats and I wear a size 5.5/6.0 ring. My circle of friends think my ring is huge and my fiancee has spoiled me.

I have been looking around at some photos at 1.5-2.0 carat diamonds, and mine doesn''t look as big. I was wondering if there was a reason for that. My ring, in my opinion looks closer to those with 1 carat or so. I am a bit confused and just curious. Regardless, I love my ring and I am so happy! I just wanted to share my ring and happiness with all you wonderful people here.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ENGAGEMENT!!! Do you have paperwork on your ring?

Lori

Congratulations!

Congrats! The cut might be the reason your ring looks smaller. Also, a lot of the pictures on PS are very close-up, which I think makes them look bigger.

No, I don''t have paperwork, but fiancee told me its about 2 carats. Does it look to be about the standard size for a 1.8-2.0?

Photos can be deceptive when compared to stones in real life. If you go to a jewelry store, a sales person can measure the top of the diamond to check the dimensions across the top of the stone and see what you diamond measures at compared to other stones.

IMO, I wouldn''t do that. Just enjoy your ring. You love it and that''s what matters.

For sentimental reasons, even if it seems a bit small, I would feel bad about telling my fiancee. I just am curious. I had a look at the ''real life perspective'' thread and the first woman''s 1.5 look HUGE! My 2 carat seems a bit more petite.

Thanks MC!

My finger is a 4.75 and a 2-ct looks huge! Could be your setting, too. Maybe previously you''ve noticed 2-ct stones with more substantial settings.

My setting is pretty high up, and I read those really make the diamond appear larger, and yet...my diamond doesn''t seem as big. I always thought diamonds were diamonds and just focused on the carat weight. It looks like my fiancee thought so too.

Have you tried cleaning it? I didn''t realize my ring needed to be cleaned when I first got mine until I actually cleaned it. It was amazing how much brighter and shinier it looked.

Lighting can also affect how big it looks. You may also just have early on-set Diamond Shrinking Syndrom.

Its beautiful, enjoy your ring.

Oh no!!! It is cleaned. I did notice that it doesn''t sparkle a lot like I see in jewelry stores, but I just kind of thought that comes with the territory. Again, I thought diamonds were diamonds, and the most important thing to judge by is carat weight, but now I am reading about ''cut''. So does anyone agree that it looks a bit smaller than 2 carats. I mean I hope my fiancee would boost a 1.2 carat diamond to ''almost 2 carats'' just to impress me. I love the ring regardless...

Most everyone here seems to think that its just me, maybe I am being paranoid. I would hate to think he got ripped of by some jewelry store.

It''s really hard to tell from a picture. Diamond''s can hide their weight in places making the diamond face up smaller than it should however its impossible to tell without having any of the dimensions or the cert. Enjoy your ring, its gorgeous!

Congratulations! Remember, so many people here at PS love hand shots and know how to take very flattering ones! My ring size is 4.5 and a 2 carat looks pretty substantial, almost too big on me. Perhaps its just the photos or perhaps the cut is a bit deep--without numbers verified by gem lab, no one can say for certain. Try not to do too much comparison to other people''s rings, just enjoy your ring.

Check the paperwork, go get it independently appraised then you are not second guessing yourself.

If you love your ring then don't worry about the details unless you would consider returning it or exchanging it for something different. It's better to leave well enough alone and enjoy the moment. Your BF picked out a beautiful ring for you and you are happy and excited. Congratulations on your engagement!

I agree - don''t take the edge off of getting engaged by worrying about the size of the stone however if you''re going to insure it then you''ll need to get it appraised.

It''s possible for it to be around 2 cts, but it''s also possible for it to look smaller than 2 cts b/c of the cut. If it really concerns you, I think you should stop by a jewelry store the next time you''re at the mall by yourself (if you''re worried about hurting your fiance''s feelings) and ask them to measure it for you. I guess the question you should ask yourself is, "Would knowing that information change things for you?"

Good point.

congratulations! You two are too damn cute...and I love the pics of you both. If you are worried that he may have been ripped off...have the ring appraised...I would have it appraised (if he didn't ) for insurance purposes.

Congrats on your engagement!!

hi lilybelle :)

congratulations on your engagement - it''s a lovely looking ring.

i have to be honest, tho - i could be wrong, but that definitely doesn''t look like 2 carats to me.

if i were you, i''d beat a straight line to the nearest appraiser...then come back and prove me wrong. :)

and i hope i am! find out for sure, tho....
