hi lilybelle :)

congratulations on your engagement - it''s a lovely looking ring.

i have to be honest, tho - i could be wrong, but that definitely doesn''t look like 2 carats to me.

if i were you, i''d beat a straight line to the nearest appraiser...then come back and prove me wrong. :)

and i hope i am! find out for sure, tho....
Thanks for you honesty. Just curious, what size would you say it looks? Don''t worry about my feelings, just be honest.

I think others have been a bit hesitant to say what you did, and I really appreciate that.

Congrats! I have to agree with Whitby...it is very hard to tell what size it is just by a few pictures but it doesn't appear anywhere near 2 carats if your finger is a 5.5-6...that is my size too and I think it looks more in the 1-1.2 range...

There are a couple possibilities...but I would get that to an appraiser ASAP (which like others said you will need to do for insurance purposes anyway) to make sure your fiance didn't get ripped off.

Sorry to be a debbie downer.

Lily,
congratulations on your engagement! You and your fiance make a beautiful couple! Your ring is gorgeous! I agree with the other posts here that it is hard to see how big it is with the pictures you posted. I do have to say that is does look smaller than 2 cts, I would have guessed around 1. But, the diamond does also look pretty deep. Regardless of the carat weight, to me, the most importants things are the cut and clarity. If you are having doubts about the size definitely take it to an appraiser. Good luck and congrats again!

It''s very pretty and you guys make a great couple! It does appear smaller than a 2 ct, more like 1 1/3 carat in the picture but it''s really hard to tell and it really doesn''t matter. Sometimes you can know too much about diamonds. I wouldn''t nit pick the stats because he picked it out for you and if you found out something negative you''d never be able to forget it. For instance, you might have a pretty sparkly diamond...then find out it''s clarity grade is I1, which is not worth as much and not very sought after, or you''ll see the inclusion plot and be able to find some you couldn''t have found without knowing where the spots were.

Just enjoy it. If it really bothers you, just ask him what size it is precisely, for insurance purposes maybe.

One of my friends (and I know her heart was in the right place) said ''Oh my gosh! Is that a 1 carat!'' In a way that was to say it was huge, but I said no, ''It''s more like 2''. So I am not surprised to hear that some think it looks closer to 1 carats. I would still like to have others opinions. Do you think I should mention it to my FH?

Also, thank you for all the congratulations and all the ''beautiful couple'' comments--much appreciated.

I would have guessed closer to .75. It looks about the size to me of my original stone. Enjoy it for what it is and the lovely thoughts behind it. But if you want to know for sure I would get it appraised and if it is not what your fiance was told then return it. The thought of being ripped off would definitely spoil the sentiment
to me. You both make a gorgeous couple, best wishes for a very happy life!

first i want to say grats! lovely ring and a lovely couple!

but yea, it doesn''t look like 2carats. If I had to guess, i''d say closer to 1-1.25
it is very difficult to tell from pics though.

Hi LilyBelle,

Congrats on your engagement! Your ring is lovely and so classic! Your FI did a great job! You and I have the same ring size. I am a 5.5 - 6. My ring is .98 carats.

I think yours looks to be about 1.2 carats. It looks beautiful on your hand.

I've attached a pic of my ring (size 5.75) on my finger for comparison so you can see someone with the exact same ring size. Yours definitely looks bigger than mine. Hope this helps!

Lily,

Coming from experience I would not mention it to your fiance just yet. Get it appraised first. My square radiant is a 1.6 ct and it looked like a 1.0 ct to me. I mentioned it to my fiance and he became offended and was hurt. Good luck with the appraisal. Regardless of what size it is it is still a very very beautiful ring and looks so pretty on your hand.

hi lily :)

sorry not to get back to you earlier - i've been out eating a very nice bouillabaisse!

if i was going to take a guess, i'd say somewhere around .9-1.1ct. laila619 gave you a very good comparison of a .98ct stone on a finger the same size as yours, and i think yours looks about the same size. the stone seems to cover the same percentage of your finger.

here's a link with a lot of photos of rings in the 2ct mark

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/lets-show-off-our-2-3-carat-center-stones-here.31514/

i've also included a picture of vespergirl's gorgeous 2 ct solitaire, on a size 5 finger (hope this is ok, vesper)

lily, i hope this helps, and i'm sorry to not be telling you what you must want to hear. but in my experience, concerns like this DONT go away - they build, so perhaps it's better to try to work it out right off the bat; if somebody has ripped you off, you need to know.

i hope i'm very wrong and will be the VERY FIRST to say "i'm a dingbat - why couldn't i see that??" if it rocks in at 2cts.

good luck, honey; don't let problems with your ring take the shine off a man who loves you...

Congratulations on your engagement! You and your FI make an adorable couple!

I agree that your stone doesn''t look like a 2 ct stone, I''d guess it''s closer to 1 ct. I also agree with Whitby that you should get it appraised if this is something that is going to bother you.

If I were you, I''d also want to make sure that my FI didn''t overpay for the ring.

That being said, I hope you don''t let this overshadow all your engagement joy!

It looks lovely, and congrats on your engagement, you two look like a lovely couple!

As to your question, I agree with others and would have guessed that it is around the 1ct mark, maybe 1.2ct. As you know, this doesn''t matter one little bit as long as your FI paid for what he got! The only reason to care at all is a worry that he may have gotten ripped off somehow. Hopefully he is just exaggerating the ct. weight in the hopes of impressing you

. Get it appriased by an independent appraiser. You need that for insurance anyways, so it isn''t a waste.

Lily,
Congratulations on your engagement!!!! That is a lovely ring and I love that setting as well. I can''t guess how big your stone is but it doesn''t look like 2ct to me. I would suggests to go to an appraiser. Also, have you tried to measure your diamond with a ruler? 2ct will have 8mmx8mm. Others pls correct me if I am wrong.
Nonetheles, enjoy your engagement!!!! Congrats again!!!!

Congrats!!! What a lovely ring!

Thanks Whitby! I had a look at a bunch of 2 carat rings and mine definitely does not have the finger coverage as any of those diamonds. I know I am not to lose sight of what the ring symbolizes, but I kinda feel foolish that I''ve been telling people its 2 carats. Is it possible for even the deepest cut 2 carat to face up as a 1 carat? What diamond cutter would even waste his/her time to cut a 2 carat (8mm) just to have it look like a 1 carat (6.5mm)?...that''s a huge difference.

LilyBelle,

Whatever size the ring really is doesn''t matter, it''s GORGEOUS! You 2 make a stunning couple! Congratulations on your engagement. I agree with the others, go get an appraisal to be sure your FH got what he paid for.

hi lilybelle :)

i wouldn''t have thought it would be possible. to face up as a 1ct stone it would have to be SO deep that it''d be really LONG! the whole second carat would have to be underneath it, if it really did face up as a 1ct stone. the setting then would need to be so deep as to be aesthetically strange... so no, i don''t think that would be possible - especially not in a round cut stone. i also looked up the deepest cut brilliant cut stones i could find, and even at the deepest depth i found (66%) they were still *considerably* closer in diameter to a normal cut 2ct stone than they were to a 1ct stone.

but lily, this is all supposition. what you need to do is get this baby to an appraiser - or at *least* to a jewelry store and have the diameter measured; you''re looking for a diameter of around 8-8.1mm. a 1ct stone will normally sit at about 6.4mm. just the diameter will give you a pretty good idea what ct weight it is, so it might be easier to go the jeweler route.

i hope this helps. hang in there, lilybelle, and pls come back and let us know how it panned out?

Congratulations on your engagement! You guys make a cute couple! Your ring is lovely, but I can also understand that having something bother you and on your mind is no fun either. You can get an estimate by maybe printing out a diamond size grid and then laying your diamond over the various sizes to see what it is close to, but you''ll have to be able to get one to print to normal size, either that or if you happen to be near a bookstore, they have diamond guides that often have this chart in them as well. HTH!

I''m sorry, but it definitely doesn''t look anywhere near 2 carats. If it bothers you, an appraisal should be done. If it makes you feel better, you should have an appraisal anyhow for insurance on the ring.

Congratulations on your engagement. You look like a lovely couple. Just looking at the pictures, I would say your ring looks closer to a carat and if I were you, I would get the paperwork and get your ring appraised if you have any questions about the carat weight. It's a touchy subject to bring up with your new fiance since his feelings may be hurt, but I think in the long run it is better to make sure he wasn't taken advantage of by his lack of diamond knowledge (which we all have been at some point). Best of luck and your ring is beautiful.

Gorgeous ring and CONGRATS on your engagement!!! I agree with the others who said it doesn''t look like it is near 2 cts. Mine is a 1.73 on a size 6 and looks larger than what you posted. It is really hard to tell from pics, but I, too, would guess yours to be in the 1.0-1.25 carat range. And, here''s another vote for heading straight to an appraiser. You can also go to a jewelery store and ask to see various stone sizes for reference.

Unfortunately I really don''t think it''s possible for a 2 ct. round to face up that small. Have you measured it across the top? You can get a pretty good idea yourself just measuring the top. Even a very deeply cut 2 ct. stone wouldn''t rival a 1 ct. in size.

Take a ruler and measure it, end to end. You don''t need a jeweller to tell you it''s short about a millimeter and a half. From the side profile, your diamond doesn''t look abnormally deep to me. Unless it was in the depth, there''s really very little place for a 2 ct to hide a full carat worth of weight. It looks like a 1 to a 1.2 to me... UNLESS you have your Ring size wrong.

WHOOO HOOOOO! Congrats on your engagement! Such an exciting time, but I can tell you are concerned about your diamond. Don''t feel bad about that, many of us here would feel the same! That being said, I agree with the others...It does not look larger than a 1.3 to me.

Here''s what I would do...I would tell my honey that I want to get the ring insured (it should be!!)and that in order to do that it needs to be appraised. This way you won''t be doing anything behind his back, and you will then know all you need to about your diamond. If it comes back significantly below 2 carats, your guy could have been seriously taken, and he may want to do something about that. Also...any chance you heard him wrong when you asked for the specks?

During the time you are researching the diamond, enjoy the engagement!

Lisa

Love the ring!! regardless of the size!!

It''s beautiful! Congrats!

PS- You two look adorable together!

Looks like it''s closer to a 1ct, but what do we know. It''s all based on looking at a few pics. If you don''t want to go through the whole appraisal thing, just wear it into a jewlery store at the mall or something. Try on a few other rings there of different carats and see which one yours most closely resemble.

I wouldn''t worry about it right now. It is obviously bothering you, but I would enjoy your engagement. If you happen to be alone by a jewelery store, you could pop in and have it measured, or tell your FI (!!!) that you would like to have it appraised for insurance purposes. You will feel bad if you question him about it, then find out that it is not what he thinks because I''m sure he would feel terrible.

Just for comparison purposes, I posted a link to my ering. It is a 1.21 carat round solitaire. I wear around a size 5 or 5.5

My 1.21 carat round solitaire, size 5 - 5.5
