So Indecisive about my E-Ring! What would you do...

I think you should consider Yssie's suggestion of single cuts in a standard colour (even if it is higher than the center stone) and unplated white gold. That may be just enough warmth in the metal not to cause a contrast issue, and the single cuts ought to solve the colour difference between the melee and center. Ultimately, I've seen rings with the same colour as yours set in white gold with halos and contrast wasn't an issue. Of course, I cannot recall where I've seen them (or I would post pics), but I think the contrast might be a bigger issue in your head than it might be in reality.

Would you consider something else? There are other options besides halo and solitaire. You could do a 5 stone, 3 stone, 3 stone with sapphire sides (but dont worry I remember you dont like colors lol)
Some same color chubby traps would be lovely and really blingy.

Yeah, that's a good idea! A 3 stone with side traps would be nice.

So some of you may remember me from my last post where I talked about my diamond shopping experiences in NYC. My boyfriend ended up purchasing a 1.82ct K VVS2 cushion. It was a great price for the size and it's a beautiful diamond. I'm just not sure if we should keep it...

We kind of lost sight with what I started out wanting for years when we bought the diamond - a Harry Winston style halo.
The 1.82 cannot be haloed because the contrast bugged me. It wasn't warm enough to be a "purposeful looking" (for lack of a better word) contrast and wasn't white enough to not notice the difference. I do love one solitaire setting - VC's Trueste setting. But I feel like I might regret not getting the halo. But then again I could regret not keeping this diamond because who knows what else we will find and out of all the diamonds we saw in NYC, none of them really stood out to me like this one.

I am just so indecisive it's driving me crazy. We don't have any other diamond prospects at the moment (that we would halo). And we have about a month left to return the diamond to JA.

I'm just not sure what to do. When I first saw the 1.82 my eyes lit up and I still love it. It looks really white almost all the time and it's huge! Dream size diamond for me really. I'm just not sure if I should keep it and put it in a setting like the trueste OR return it and the HW ring that I've always wanted-but with a much smaller spread probably.

What would you do if you were in my situation? I'd appreciate any advice.
Gracie you're getting some of the best advice from an amazing community of people, so I hope you let us know what you ultimately decide to do. Since you've asked for input, having recently gone through designing a wedding set that I've dreamed about for years, I'd suggest that you stay true to what you wanted from the beginning (period).

The fact that you're struggling with this makes me think that you should return the current stone and start fresh w/ your dream of a "Harry Winston style halo" and make that dream come true. No matter how beautiful anything else looks (& all of the options you're getting will look wonderful), you'll continue to "miss" what you wanted from the beginning. So I think you're smart to pause for a moment and then pursue what you've been dreaming of because you'll be much happier than trying to "make" something else work.

I tend to agree with this. It sounds like this diamond isn't going to make you happy in the long run. Sure, it's bigger than what you'll get if you go with a lower color, but ultimately, you'll get the HW style ring you're dreaming of.

Best of luck with your decision.

I'm back and I'm pretty sure we will not be keeping the diamond. I took it outside today and sat in the car looking at it from all angles lol. My boyfriend was with me. We definitely noticed the tint outside (more so at certain angles - faces up pretty white) - which only really bothers me because it's kind of tinted, kind of not. I would have prefered to just go all out with a lower color rather than have it look alittle warm. Does that make sense?

Sure, we could go with the single cuts but that makes me nervous since I've never seen that in real life. Who knows how nicely matched it will turn out. I could not like it. I don't know. There are a lot of if's.

So, whatever diamond we end up getting will be smaller but with a halo it should come out to be similar in size to this diamond as a solitaire. In the end, a solitaire isn't really what I wanted.

I still think about a vintage style setting for the 1.82K but I haven't found any that I love yet. I will probably wait until the last possible minute to return the diamond. I do love it, it's really gorgeous, but feel that I can't get the total package (for me) with it unfortunately. :[ I soo wish it was just a color or two higher. All my problems would be solved!

Thanks again for all your advice. It was definitely helpful. Although, I feel guilty not keeping such a beautiful diamond! It will be missed, especially since we don't have one to replace it yet. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be or this would be easier!

This absolutely makes sense. I've gone to Crafted by Infinity diamond events and looked at their stunning, perfectly cut diamonds, and I have to say that K is my least favorite color. Not clear enough to be white and not colored enough to be colored. Just sort of a sandy, dirty color. J and above is fine, and once I get down to M and below, that's fine too.

I do make an exception for antique stones and antique settings. I think those can look great with lower colored stones. But, if that is not what you want, I think you need to go for the all white diamond ring of your dreams.

While I am sad to hear this, I think that's kind of what I was expecting. I really felt like you loved the idea of it but could not wrap your head around the color enough to be ok with the stone. But now you know that you have a color threshold.

nielseel, those pictures just took my breath away!
(especially the ruby one!!!)
