I found a matched pair for earrings, so this little orphan is up for adoption!
I have not had this diamond appraised, although my jeweler has looked at it and offered an “off the record” opinion. The following is my opinion only!
CUT
The stone weighs 0.58ct and is 5.20mm in diameter according to my jeweler’s calipers. It is symmetric to my eyes, with a nice small table and good depth.
The cut on this diamond is spectacular. This diamond has excellent edge to edge brightness, great scintillation, and it is a fire ball. The faceting is what I call “bubbly”, with a wonderful roundness in the faceting under the table. This is a diamond that deserves to be in a ring so the wearer can see it and enjoy, but of course it is an excellent pendant size too. It is the same diameter as a typical half carat round brilliant so will likely fit in stock mounts for that size. It is well cut and would also fare well in a bezel in my opinion.
COLOR
This is a rare OEC that is in the less tinted end of the near colorless range. The diamond is notably less tinted than my EGL I colored OEC, and much less tinted than my GIA J colored OEC when compared upside down on white paper. A conservative estimate for color is H-I by GIA standards, but I secretly off the record think it is maybe even a G .
CLARITY
The diamond is completely eye clean and I cannot find anything with my 10x loupe. There are two very small “mouse bites” on the girdle. They are not apparent with the naked eye, you can barely feel a little roughness with your finger nail. The macro photographs I have posted show them clearly. My jeweler did not think they pose a durability risk. But if you want a perfect stone with no signs of wear in the past 100 years, this is not the diamond for you
PRICING
Comparables seem to be between $1200 and $1400 on OWD depending on the color and clarity. Here is an example of a very conservative comparable EGL H SI1 that retails for $1229, but there is no photo and no information about cut quality:
