You know what Arkie? It doesn't matter what anyone paid for it in the past. You are not flipping. If you get a good deal on a stone and decide to sell a year or five later, you can ask twice as much as you paid if you want. That is not flipping. Flipping is buying with the intent of reselling at a profit as soon as possible. What matters is current market price and most people expect a discount off of that. I think you'd be wise to get a good appraisal on the stone by Neil or someone. It might be worth more than you think. It is a lovely stone but I understand your love for OEC's and old cuts!

+1 I don't get the whole flipping deal...check the market value if you are interested in buying something second hand. If you think it's priced too high, offer a lower amount or don't buy it. Who cares? I think the price is amazing....

I hope you are able to sell it and get an awesome OEC! :)

Thanks everyone, I think a few people here were trying to imply that, and flipping was not my intention at all. I bought the stone because I couldn't find a big OEC that I loved. The original plan was to wear this one as a e-ring upgrade for a while until I found the OEC or other old cut of my dreams and either sell it or keep it as a right hand dress ring. The simple fact is its been sitting in the US unset for ages, and my husband said to me out of frustration either set it or sell it and so here it is. I found a large wonky OEC a while ago that is actually bigger than this pear :naughty: and something else thats killer as well, so no regrets, I am totally cool with it. I have owned quite a stash of modern cuts too before I discovered Pricescope and really I think I outgrew them. We each have different taste nothing more. I found P/S looking for more info on Old Cut stones and really it was like finding my "tribe". Die hard old cut lovers will get all of this more than everyone else I think.....

Irrespective of my choices, this is a killer of a stone for someone at a great price!!!!

Hi everyone,

I have hopefully responded to those who have messaged me, if not then please send me another message. My husband's family work in the trade. For a stone that size and colour it is currently at wholesale pricing. I know that for a fact, because I have access to the tools that allow me check. I could get more for the stone by selling it here in Australia of that I am sure (everything is more expensive here). I would love it to go to a home that loves it and adores it and O.K maybe flashes it on Pricescope occasionally as well.

Sorry if I don't respond immediately I am on another time zone as the others have pointed out. Thanks everyone for all of your help and support, I appreciate it!!!!

It's funny, my first thought was that you should try to sell locally! I understand wanting PS stones to stay in the PS family though, so I think you're doing what I would do as well - but goodness, there's extra money to be made in Australia!

And what's even funnier is that one of the jewelers that I have a decent relationship with here, whom I'm trying to consign a couple of pieces with, told me that he thought this piece was 'overpriced.' I literally LOLed. Yeah, where in the hell are you going to get a FIVE CARAT diamond, of ANY COLOR, in Australia for $25k?!

Anyway, if this doesn't sell quickly, and my original engagement ring DOES, I shall be in touch with you. :wink2:

Hi Ginger, technically if it was a standard stone with a lower clarity, down in that lower coloured range I could agree with him. But every now and then you get a stone that defies everything else and is unique - like this one with a yellow base hue or undertone and then extra yellow as well. Mostly they are light fancy yellows but you can see quite yellow tinted stones (cape stones for example) which are, what I would call light canary yellow - they start around that L to M colour range and of course we can notice it in some stones that are much lower coloured too... Not all stones down in that bottom range are this colour most are murky, brown, grey and a heap of unpleasant shades in between!!!!

When I looked at the original setting it came in when Amethyst first bought the stone, the one with the yellow cup, I went OMG wow, that is facing like a fancy light yellow and it was, is and does do that. Not many stones (even ones down in the W, X, Y & Z grading) actually look as nice as this one and that is what makes it unique. Add the size to it and the fact is a VVS2 ie near flawless stone and you have a winner. I disagree with him btw, I have talked to friends in the industry here and they think it would be being sold for a small fortune. You just have to look at stores like Diamonds by Lauren who specialise in searching through 1000s of stones most of them much smaller than this one (because they are easier to find) and see what they do and what they charge and, I think I can safely say they would be asking more for it as well.

Anyway. It's not like we do see stones of that size and quality much here at all and Old Cuts, as you know, aren't that common or that well known about either!!!! I don't remember seeing any modern cut VVS2 of any colour over 5 carat here for that price irrespective of colour!!!! Either way in the US or here in the right setting it looks like something the owner paid at least 3 to 4 times that amount for. That is priceless.....

What a gorgeous stone  . Wish I had the kind of lifestyle to wear this comfortably on daily basis :sun: .

Re: Selling "Big Lemony" 5.13 W to X VVS2 Light Yellow Pear.

I have to say if I had the funds I'd snap this baby up and it would stay in Australia foreverrrr. Gl with your sale :).

Re: Selling "Big Lemony" 5.13 W to X VVS2 Light Yellow Pear.

I adore this stone! Luscious !!!!!

Re: Selling "Big Lemony" 5.13 W to X VVS2 Light Yellow Pear.

oh my! this is a stunning creature!!! I'm really thinking about how I could make it mine + what I'd do with it as an e-ring! liquidating my brownie even and applying e-ring budget to this. holy moly, it's just to die for!

i've worked through the math and the price seems really quite ok to me-- i read through all the old threads and I follow completely how this was priced. Frankly, it's far more than 10 months and it seems extremely fair and not at all a "flip" re: that concern. i hope I can get my brownie back from GIA, appraised and then really think this through w/my FF before anyone else gets to it!!

Re: Selling "Big Lemony" 5.13 W to X VVS2 Light Yellow Pear.

Big thank you to everyone that sent messages of support and those that wanted to purchase the pear (there were a few of you). I kept a lot of the "real" story of this off the boards, but in the end it involved a colourful dispute with a well known and slightly notorious vendor and another two vendors, one in particular who I will name, Mark Broumand going above and beyond to help me sort it all out. He helped me recover the stone after much drama and has now purchased the diamond.

Again sorry it could not be sold directly to a Pricescope member, if a few of the long time members want the "real" story of what happened please contact me via the looptroupe link.

Oh my gosh! Sounds like it's all resolved now, though. :) Are you looking for an OEC yet?????

Re: Selling "Big Lemony" 5.13 W to X VVS2 Light Yellow Pear.

OMG! I am kicking myself!!

I was thinking of making you an offer, but hesitated and wanted to sell some other pieces first. I should've just gone for Lemony - it was the deal of the century and the stone is of course yummy! :lickout:

I still can't believe I missed out on it - twice!! Too bad for me! But happy for you that it's sold. :appl:

I am sorry you didn't you might have been the one and only person I know that could have recovered the situation with the notoriously colourful vendor.

Anyway if you are interested contact Mark Broumand. I believe he has a buyer lined up for it, but if not he is now the person selling it.

Arkieb, I am so happy for you that it all got resolved satisfactorally (though with much aggravation unfortunately :(( ). Congrats and looking forward to seeing what you decide for your oec purchase. Wishing you a happy and stress free decision!

Yes! I think it would be great for people to have this sort of info when they are deciding on a jeweler to work with.
