I have some stones that I really should sell. I have a wide variety - both in terms of of species/color of stone and regarding cutting. So, because I'm more interested in my garden these days than staring at my unset stones :o , I'm thinking of selling some or all. To be efficient though, I'd love to hear if anyone is looking for something specific in the way of color or gem type. For example, I have some sapphires - not the traditional blue; spinels; garnets; tourmalines, etc. Rather than posting them all, I'd love to cheat and know if someone is looking for specific things... :Up_to_something:

TIA :wavey:

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Why don't you at least list color and stone? You're asking people to make the effort here, and we don't even know if you have anything like it? ;))

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Any well cut blue/pink sapphires/spinels?

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Any ovals around 8x10 mm? I have a dark purple spinel in an oval setting but my current stone is a tad darker than I prefer...

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Thanks, Thbmok. This direction is helpful, and I'll post what I have. I'll go take pictures now. Sorry, no blue sapphires though (that is, that I want to sell).

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

I'll look for 8 x 10 ovals as well. =)

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

I'm looking for a 9 mm round pink stone, would also consider blue. If you've got anything you think might fit the bill ...

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Periwinkle sapphire/spinel. :naughty:

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Kid, you are supposed to be trying to sell your gems, not getting more! But always willing to enable another gemaholic :naughty:

I just finished my "photoshoot" and will hopefully be posting on the Bistro if it lets me. Luckily, I do have a very pretty small periwinkle spinel from Barry that I had snapped pics of a while ago, so I'll throw that in as well...

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

I know, I know. It's one of the last ones on my hit list, other than a Fanta spess, perhaps kissed by red - but I believe you're looking for one of those as well. ;)
I'll keep an eye out!

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Any dark red, purple or pink rounds around 8-9mm? :naughty:

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

any 4-5 mm blue/green/pink stud earrings???

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Oh, I have a whole list...

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Well, if DB doesn't let you make a listing, you know how to reach me... :Up_to_something:

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

I'm looking for something pretty specific size-wise, 8.4 x 6.4 (but could probably go a little larger either way). Light colored sapphire or lavender/lilac spinel would be my top choices, but I'd be interested to hear about anything if you had something near that size.

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Any purple sapphires? Not pinky or bluish, but true purple, in a 2-4 ct size? Well cut, shape is optional. =)

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

um, I know you have a chrysoberyl with my name on it.

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Okay, I have devoted a good portion of the day retaking photos trying to get them as accurate as possible. I actually, for the first time, messed around with the color/saturation controls a bit trying to make them reflect what I see. Since then, I've been trying to load them and have DB acting like I don't exist :(sad That is, I say I want to make a listing, but its completely non-responsive. Either its operator error because its been a while since I loaded anything, or its um, "thinking" tonight...

Anyway, here is my list in response to requests:

No 8 x 10 ovals here. I may have some at the bank, and I'll look soon, but I don't think so. I, too, was looking for a spinel of about that size to replace a burgundy/cranberry spinel I have in a setting, but so far, no luck. You might want to check out Shopgemstone on ebay - they seem to have a fair amount of large spinels - not top color (ignore their photoshopped photos and focus on their videos), but some pretty ones nonetheless. I am waiting for a Burmese baby pink/lavender one to come around.

I have the following:

1) a group of 4 unheated precision cut sapphires. Each is about one carat. Three are ovals, one is a trillion. Three are medium light blue, one is a rich brownish orange. Medium saturation.

2) a 1.9ct precision cut Round pink tourmaline, 7.9mm. Medium pink, strong saturation, VVS.

3) a round, extremely well cut 2.62 ct blue spinel. Medium tone, medium saturation, 8.3 x 6.0mm, VVS.

4) a round precision cut platinum blue Burma spinel; 1.64 ct, 7.1mm, VVS2 with color shift

5) a round precision cut lavender/periwinkle spinel; .91 ct, 5.7mm eye clean (I can't remember what Barry said about it; I know its at least eye clean)

6) an oval 1.95ct deep pink Mahenge spinel (ever so slightly orangish), 7.7x6.5x4.8mm, medium tone, strong/vivid saturation. Its set in an 18k simple solitaire, worn once. I'm selling it just for the cost of the stone, and throwing in the setting. Why sell a Mahenge? Because I don't wear magenta/vivid pink. Please note it is not the Chrono or TL red. Like a good Mahenge, it glows.

7) a round, precision cut, 2.3 ct unheated Tunduru teal sapphire, 7.7mm. Medium dark, medium to medium strong saturation, VVS. This one I hate to see go, but I really want it to go to someone who will set it. Its not a mainstream color; its the only one I've seen like it, and it wouldn't kill me if it didn't sell ;) but it would look so good in a bespoke setting.

Others I would consider selling if someone would be interested:

1) a precision cut round 2.03 ct apricot bronze zircon, 7.0 x 4.56mm VS - is it possible to call a brown gem highly saturated?

2) a precision cut round, .73 ct green tourmaline, 5.6mm; medium tone, strong saturation, eye clean

3) a round precision cut, 2+ct, 7.5 - 8mm, raspberry rhodolite garnet. If someone is looking for a red garnet, this is it. I was looking for an anthill garnet, because of the high chrome content, but Barry had just sold his last one and recommended this one instead. It does black out in certain lightings like many garnets do, but it is a very saturated and pretty red. I would say its medium dark. If someone is interested, I'll take photos.

VL: what chrysoberyl did you have in mind? I could probably part with some of the ones from Tan, but not so sure I can part with either of the ones from Roger Dery...I love them so.

Now I'll go see if I can start to list them on the bistro.

Let me know if there is anything I missed. :wavey:

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Sorry, Colorluvr, no purple sapphires. I wish!

Well, I am glad to hear it actually. Your original post made me think you were preparing to sell everything, "I'm thinking of selling some or all." If you were doing something that radical I wanted to make sure the RDchrysos went to the right home. I would have advised you against selling those.

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Wow, can't wait to see 3,4,5,6, and 7!

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Can I call dibs on 3? :naughty: Looking forward to the pictures!

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Boy, once DB gets going, it looks like you'll be swarmed, Minous!

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

I'm interested in 5 as well. Might go with my merelani....

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

I've been looking for a nice rhodolite garnet! Garnet is my son's birthstone and really want a quality stone for a RHR!!!!!

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Ohhhh 2,3 and the rodolite garnet sound great! Maybe if I am lucky :naughty:

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

I'd love to at least see #6 :twirl:

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

In preparation for DB coming back on line in my lifetime  , I am providing photos so you get a better idea of what I have. First up, small grouping of unheated sapphires. I tried really hard to make the colors work, but in reality, the "brown" one is a rich red brown, the trillion is a bright, slightly steely blue, one of the ovals is a light blue, and the other is a light purplish blue. The nuance of each color was lost. I'll keep trying, but these may need to be seen in person.

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Next up, the pink tourmaline. By the way, I think all of these stones are precision cut by the usual suspects, mainly by Barry. If I forget to mention that, please feel free to ask - hopefully, when DB comes back up! This tourmaline is warmer than the photos indicate, and is a slightly more melon-y pink. I am not a pink person in general, but I love salmony, pinky/apricoty colors, so pinks that have that ever so slight melon-y quality, like this one, are my faves. This one is 7.9mm and weighs about 2 carats.

Re: Question about What Gemstones to Sell

Blue spinel 2.62 carats; ever so slight platinum cast to it. For some reason, it kept wanting to read as having greenish cast to the stone. It has no green at all. I had to mess around with the settings to do so, but the second and third photos are more accurate for color, though I would say its a little more intense in color in real life. Also, I notice each of the photos picked up a reflection which discolored the stone in the bottom right quadrant of the photo. There is no such discoloration in the stone; it is one uniform, medium blue. Great cutting; high crown.
