it really is gorgeous :)

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

it's beautiful! I hope a pser buys it!!

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

I wish you would list this under DB instead of consigning to GOG. 1. Perhaps there would be more savings due to less commission/cost. Better price means easier to sell. 2. Don't see any advantage in finding appropriate settings. GOG does not have good setting choices, and their prices are way too high. I can think of at least three other PS sources (VC, JBEG, and WF) to get the best setting for this beauty.

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

I have looked at this several times. I would have considered buying it had he put it on DB with a better price.

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

My reasons for choosing good old gold to consign:
Very honest and trustworthy they have a nice retail location staffed by very knowledgeable sales people.
The owner Jonathan has been in the buisnness for over 25yrs. and at the same location for about 20.When I visited the store it was very busy, people where actually waiting to be helped in fact one customer commented Wow! look at this place "What recession".I am very pleased with the video he did. I think it is an amazing presentation of the stone. The pictures are awesome and his knowledge is amazing.I don`t get the part about settings. I chose to sell the stone without a setting because it gives the buyer more options. There are thousands of dealers selling settings out there . The buyer could choose anyone why does he or she have to get it from good old gold or DB .There are no limits!!One last thing as to price. Jonathan came up with the price and at less then $7000.00 a carat it seemed to be priced correctly .You can always make an offer ! Hey you never know.
Thanks, Carmine
P.S. I hope this helps your understanding of my decission . I like to leave things to the professionals

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

Carmine I would have done the same as you for such a high ticket item.

me too!!!

I think GOG was a great choice and am sure it will find a home soon. I wish I could buy it

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

Dear Carmine,
Sorry if my comment came across as criticizing. You need not justify your choice of consignment. Your stone interests me. As that I do not feel comfortable working through GOG and that I heard they charge 30% commission, I wish you would have listed on DB. That's all. I do see an advantage for you to use GOG, as it is "safer" and one does not know how many scammers are out there.

When I buy diamond jewelry, I prefer to get both stones and settings from the same vendor. It is safer and more convenient for me. For jewelers like VC who makes fine jewelry such as my dream settings (e.g., frankie's round halo), I do not mind the risk of having the stone sent to VC.

Good luck with your sale.

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

What a beautiful diamond! Good luck with your sale - I hope it gets a good (PS) home!

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

Just watched the youtube video on GOG's site. That is a stunning diamond - hope someone here gets it and posts lots of pictures!

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

Please allow me to clear a few things up.Goodold gold is not charging me 30% commission I don`t know where you heard that . I am paying them 15% commission and furthermore all advertizing including the You Tube Video is coming out of their end.Jonathan devoted alot of his time to shoot that video and his sales staff are working the stone too.I feel I had to set the record straight because I don`t want anyone to think they are overpriced with their fees.Remember this is the internet and we must be careful to what we state as fact. It takes many years to establish your buisness as honest and trustworthy, heck I think they even have a 30 day return policy.I for one wouldn`t want to damage their reputation.

FD: I'm not trying to be mean but I just wanted to say that GOG has a HUGE selection of setting choices. Many of them are higher end designers, but thats fitting to the location near NYC. They also so amazing custom work-have a great bench and also carry their own line of settings that are more affordable without the designer price tag. Here is their list of settings. They don't have the best internet website for their settings (they are working on it) but will make videos and answer any questions and pull something that they think will fit what you are looking for. They have spent much of their energy on the diamond portion and now that it's up and running will be doing the setting portion next. They have addressed this in a RT thread already.

While I agree GOG is a bit higher priced then some of the other online vendors, they go above and beyond in their certificates, videos, ASET images and service.

I think we should keep these comments on the for sale section about the item at hand-and how beautiful we think they are. Not how we feel the person should/shouldn't have done things.

GOG is top notch and he could have chosen JBEG but they don't have nearly the traffic GOG does nor do they have a store front. I think a stone of that size and quality will sell quickly at GOG.

Good luck!

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

Well said. Thank You
Carmine

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

What a beautiful stone..........

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

Goodness! GOG has good commission fees for the amazing services they provide! And the range is something like 10-40% depending on the value of the item. I don't think they want to deal with a bunch of inexpensive items, so the fees naturally will be higher for those. I would feel better purchasing from them than anyone else because they do such a thorough evaluation on the diamonds! I would not buy an expensive item from an individual on DB unless they had a very recent appraisal from one of the PS appraisers.

I also know of no PS vendor who carries more designer settings than they do other than maybe Pearlmans. But GOG carries some, like Tacori and Vatche, that Pearlman's doesn't.

All I can say is, if I consign my diamond, it absolutely will be with GOG!!!

Good luck on your sale, Carmine!!!

I think you made a great choice, I would have done the same thing. I do not understand why people are criticizing your choice with how you choose to sell the diamond. This is a post to make people aware the stone is for sale, if they don't like where it is consigned to then close the thread and move on! And for what it's worth, I think the diamond is listed at a great price! I did a great deal of research when shopping for my OEC and your diamond seems to be listed at a very fair price, and possibly underpriced. I hope someone buys this beauty from you soon!!!

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

I am going to call Jonathan at Good Old Gold next week to get some feed back on how we are doing with the stone.I gave it to him a little over 6 weeks ago and I like to touch base and see how much serious interest is in the stone.

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

Carmine, I think when it comes to a special stone, in your case over 3 cts. and a low color, it may take awhile to find the right buyer. It is a gorgeous stone but probably not what most engagement ring buyers are looking for. It will likely be a buyer like some of us who either want an upgrade or a second diamond ring. So I wouldn't worry if it takes a few months to sell. I am consigning something there, also, because I believe it is the best place and will get the most exposure.

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

I agree. There is a limited market in part because of the price range.Let`s face it, its easier to sell something for $ 1000.00 as opposed to$ 10,000.00 simply because its more affordable to more people.I am very pleased with Good Old Golds marketing and they are fair with their commissions.I think the stone is priced correctly and I don`t mind waiting I just hope it finds a nice home . It has been in my family for about 50 yrs. It was my dad`s pinky ring.I removed the stone from the setting because it was engraved with his initials and I am keeping that.I am not a "pinky ring "guy so I plan on buying a watch to wear in his memory.I feel that`s better than letting it sit in a vault.

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

Wow, that was quite a pinky ring!!! Yes, diamonds being high right now is to your advantage, but it just may take a little more time to find the right buyer. But I am sure it will go to a good home!

Soberguy you can't really use a single diamond like that as a comp because there is not information on cut quality on that rock, for one, and for another, OECs are priced more similarly to modern RBs than to fancies like cushions. I have no horse in this race, but the example you post is the unusually priced item, even for a fancy not a round, and so not really the same ilk as the OPs stone.

This is a better comp, though it is with an EGL report so can't be totally equated (but better than the one you posted IMO): http://www.oldworlddiamonds.com/detail.php?ID=2107&SHAPE=EU

Another at the bottom of this page, a little larger but no lab report, and lab reports affect pricing strongly at these sizes (though much less on old cuts than modern RBs) : http://www.jewelsbyericagrace.com/antique_vintage_and_reproduction_rings_page_2

I see. Just a bit of a diamond noobie : )

Re: Stunning Old European Diamond for Sale

I spoke to Jonathan on Tuesday,he said there is alot of interest in the stone but he will only accept offers from viable sources . He did say a pro football player is interested and wants it for a stud earring. He also said this is the busy season and feels it will sell soon.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

I am in the market for an OEC at about that size, but don't have my $ all together yet, I have been kicking myself in the butt ever since I saw yours!

It is such a gorgeous diamond, I hope it goes to a great home soon! That would be a great holiday gift for you and the person buying it!
