Re: Whiteflash 1.01 ct, platinum solitaire reduced

I've added an option (after several requests for pricing on the diamond alone).

$5,800 for the ring as is (with platinum setting)
$4,900 for the diamond alone (no setting)

Avg. price of similar stones available on PS search is $5,786. Make me a fair offer!

thx!
Katie

Re: Whiteflash 1.01 ct, platinum solitaire reduced

Katie I wish you luck with your sale! It is a beautiful diamond.

Just so you know, typically settings sell for peanuts on the secondary market :blackeye: It is sad but true, unless the mount is a designer name brand (e.g., Tacori, even then they sell at about 40% retail or less). I suspect people are asking about the diamond loose in large part because your price with the stone set is basically "retail" for the diamond if buyers are discounting any value for the mount :)) Your diamond price right now is discounted about 15% off retail, which is also high for secondary market pricing. Typically, buyers would expect 30% or more off retail. Not trying to be snarky, it just seems you are motivated to sell so I thought I would share that opinion/information.

Thank you dreamer! Not snarky at all. I really appreciate the info and want to price it fairly. Maybe I should reduce the stone a little more.

That might draw in more interest.

It all depends on how fast you want to sell, how much you paid, how much you need to bring in. There are downsides for buyers using DB: no returns, no upgrades, etc. Most buyers on DB seems to be deal hunters who will accept those negatives for a deal!

Another thing you could do to benefit buyers is offer to ship the stone to an independent appraiser who can act as middle man. The buyer would not pay you until he signs off that the stone is a-okay, and he would not release the diamond until you confirm receipt of payment.

Re: Whiteflash 1.01 ct, platinum solitaire reduced

Not meaning to be disrespectful either, but that goes for a few others who are selling on here and asking retail prices on the secondary market. Unless it is a one of a kind special piece, most will not pay more than a third to a half of retail. There are a few pieces on here that would probably sell if people priced them more realistically.

And you are right about settings, especially for modern wedding rings. It is all about personal taste, so most people just want the diamond.

Dreamer is exactly right. There are no guarantees when you buy from a private seller. However, some people are willing to take the chance, but only if the price is right.

And that is the problem on Ebay as well, which is why you will see pieces that have been sitting there for years.

Re: Whiteflash 1.01 ct, platinum solitaire reduced

I'm a newbie at this, so I do appreciate your input. I'll update my diamondbistro listing to reflect a lower price, as I do want to sell. I've had one offer so far but I thought it was low.

After more consideration and the input from PS, I'm now asking $4,050 for the diamond alone. For the ring as is, $4,500. Hopefully this will motivate someone.

Now in my humble opinion, that is a good price for a WF expert selection stone! I hope it sells fast!

Great price! I agree!

I thought about speaking up before and saying what Dreamer said earlier about pricing. I'm glad to see you took her advice well and I think that you have a beautiful ring to sell!

Best of luck with the sale!
