Ok, I''m sorry to be totally stupid, but I''ve seen a fair amount of people reference vallejo916, and each and every time I go and try to find him on there and get no results. Argh! Can someone please link me to an auction or his seller list? Thanks!
Thanks for your kind comments, fpp! You''re right that he doesn''t have any current auctions - he had a few that ended just a day or so ago. He tends to list about 40-50 at once, and they all end at the same time. Check his completed auctions to see what kind of stuff he has. Honestly, I''ve never purchased through an auction - I contacted him via email because his auction stones tend to be smaller than what I like. My morganite was cut by him, and I think he''s a great faceter.

Fly Girl: you''ve got plenty of style, especially if you have that shoe in your avatar! I gotta say, I never would have picked that shoe for you - really made me smile!

karee: okay then, one vote for white gold. Right now it''s my first choice too, but I wondered if it washed out the color.
You are sooooo right about me and heels.

The pink shoe is in honor of Lorelei''s 30K posts. Link
Thanks for filling me in, Fly Girl! I was really doing double-takes for a minute! I guess I need to hangout more.

Bob cut my aqua with the same cut. It''s a very nice cut. I think it would look best in white gold. It looks like an aqua more than a blue topaz.
Hmmm, I haven''t seen this aqua......I think I need a photo! Was it a recut?

Cel,
I like the white.
The faceting is quite nice. Sounds like you had good luck with your email. I emailed him and asked if he could cut an asscher some time ago. He declined!

The faceting is really pretty! I also vote white, and of course I love halos!

Thanks Pink Tower! You know, I asked him about an asscher once too, and he wasn''t sure what that was. I sent him a pic, and he thought he could do it with some practice, but I just figured it would be better to have him cut a shape he''s familiar with. What he is able to cut has been really, really nice, so far.

white gold as the blue as the stone is more attractive in the picture on my monitor.

Very pretty gemstone. I like it with white gold.

Another vote for white, I think yellow makes it look more tealish-grey. If it were a more saturated stone yellow would probably work, but for this one I''m not so sure.

No question that it should go in a white metal setting. I like the first one where you have it at an angle. I would have never guessed a topaz either; my first thought was an aquamarine.

Is there a chance that it''s an untreated blue topaz? That might explain the color.

Nice, thanks for the link to vallejo, and I think it will look gorgeous in the legacy-ish setting!

White, definitely white. If in doubt, ask Ellen!

Thanks everyone -white gold it is! Now I just have to hear back from LOGR about all the customizing. And Mr. ma re, I honestly don''t know about any treatments, but I''m going to assume that it is treated. When I asked (more than once) about it, he just gave me a general answer that 99% of all topaz is treated, but didn''t say anything about this particular stone. Maybe he doesn''t know for sure - I think this stone was recut from an old piece he had in his collection.

Yeah, no one can know for sure without sending the stone to a lab, but it''s not a color you usually see in blue topaz.

It''s beautiful honey. I was going to vote white as well but see you''ve already decided on it. I can''t wait to see it set!

Thanks for saying that - it makes me feel better about my lowly topaz.

Lowly! I like blue topaz. I tend to like the lighter colors and I won''t buy the mystic that''s got that coating on it. Your stone has a cool color to it.

Your topaz looks just LOVELY, don''t call it lowly!

Beautiful stone! Love the color and the cut. Glad you are going with the WG b/c that was my vote too.

I might be a little late, but I want to chime in and say white too!

I''ve also never seen topaz in that color before!

Stone Hunter - I''ve always liked blue topaz too, way before I found PS and even knew about treatments.

Thank you Tacori, and I love the new pic in your avatar - it''s like I get to see your daughter grow up!

szh07 - I''m so surprised by everyone''s comments about the color! I''m glad you like it!

Well, while the chicken was marinating, I had some time to take a few more pics. Here are only the best 2:

Pic 1 - new topaz with a pair of more obviously treated topaz.

And with some other stones.

No, it was not a recut. I got it on auction, and I'm currently looking to take it off my hands. I never returned it to Bob because I just got an antsy feeling about refunds from him. I had a feeling I would never see my $$$ back. It's just a bit too light in tone for me, but I know many people like lighter aquas. It reminds me of the color of the ones that Gary Braun sells.

Here's a picture of it sitting on top of a mounting (unset).

In any case, it's a very nice cut, and as you can see, your blue topaz is identical in this cut.

LOL, I figured the aqua I saw on DB was yours! I don''t ever remember him having such a large stone on auction - maybe it was before I started watching his stuff. I wonder if your aqua is lighter than my topaz?

It is lighter than your blue topaz. A mount would really deepen the color though. The nice thing about that cut is that it sparkles like crazy, which I'm sure your blue topaz does.

It is one of Vallejo's larger stones. If I remember correctly, it was 2.4 carats.

Beautiful stone. I vote for white gold. You have a lovely collection!!
