gecko,

I know you're going with Whiteflash, but have you seen this? Might be good for some "inspiration."

Inspiration

Thank you ebree! That really is lovely. I can''t decide if the double prongs are taking away from or enhancing the stone though, LOL.

I don''t know how I missed that one! I''m on that site all the time, LOL. Thank you!!! The hand shot they include is stunning!

Man I''m indecisive!

You have every right to be indecisive! You''ll be wearing this every day!

Pearlman''s has a Vatche Royal Crown for $350, but it''s for a 6.5mm stone. And you said it was too wide, right? But that head is so beautiful.

I''ll keep an eye out!

I saw that one!

I do think the band is a little wide, but honestly, I''m beginning to broaden my horizons a bit... If it were for a smaller stone, I''d be all over it, LOL.

Thanks for the encouragement. I''m being insanely picky, but I wore a setting I didn''t love for 3 years, and don''t want to do it again.

Cushioncutnut - thank you for taking the time to post all of those! I tried on a TON of settings today with my mom and reaffirmed that I really don''t like 4 prongs on round stones. It just squares up the diamond too much for me.

I DID try on a Scott Kay with double prongs at the 4 corners, and liked that a LOT. I think it softened the impact and the ''square'' effect of the 4 prong. The W prong might be an option, of they can slim down the band for me and make the prongs a wee bit more subtle.

I tried on the Tiffany Jazz and fell head over heels in love with it. I am 100% certain that that is the band I want. Well, that''s the inspiration anyway. I''m going to have WF make me a 1/2 eternity.

I''m seriously considering having them make the band and send it to me, and then wearing it around and trying on a bunch of styles with the band. Hmmmm.

ETA: I do truly adore the legato head from the side.

Just not the top, LOL. And I loved your human tripod...

Haha! Human tripod!!!!

I saw on the other thread the Diana setting........ OMG ... that is beautiful too.

It only makes sense that you should set out for what your heart desires. With all the research you are doing...I know whatever you choose will be STUNNING!!!

Thanks! I may drive myself mad before then, but whatever, LOL.

So, would it be insane to get my band made first, and then make the rounds trying on a bajillion settings WITH it to make sure I like the look? Kinda backwards, but seems like it might work.

The current debate is:

6or8gd.jpg

Nothing wrong with pulling the cart before the horse. Just make sure that you can try the band on with the solitare mount that you choose. I would hate for you to be stuck with a band and then the search starts all over again with a new band...

I like the setting on the left better......but the prongs need to be more refined. They look like huge bubbles on top of the diamond and seem to overpower it. I hope I am not be offensive by saying that.........

The other setting (which I know you love the six prong)-- the prongs look a bit too "sharp" looking...giving it somewhat of a "dated" look. I think you can find something more refined IMHO. YOu will know when it SINGS to you.

So, in a nutshell......... shows us pics of your top 3 favorite settings!! Also, do you want to buy locally or through an internet vendor. Knox or WF could put together any setting that you want and there prices are very reasonable. OH.... my favorite solitare Knox setting is called the "DOVE".......... but it does have a thicker/split style shank. Gorgeous!

Top 3... LMAO. I''m still trying to narrow down how many prongs I want, LOL!!!

I agree on all accounts regarding the prongs on the 2 examples I provided. There''s no such thing as offensive on this thread - I truly appreciate all input and suggestions.

As for local or internet... DH would prefer that I get the band and then find a solitaire locally so I can see how they fit together, if that makes sense? I KNOW I want the band. I''m obviously still undecided on the solitaire. Alternately I would need to find really, really reasonable return policies just in case from internet vendors. I think Knox has a 3% restocking fee on their settings (not custom, of course). The Dove is lovely, but I''m not a fan of the wider shank. I''ve got limited finger real estate to work with, LOL!

You like the 8 prongs on the antique setting eh? Hmmmmm.

Here''s a pretty setting from James Allen

http://www.jamesallen.com/products/item_57-2120_build.asp?module=setting

A PSer had their .70 ct stone set in it for reference.

That really is a fun setting! I''m not crazy about how high the cathedral sides come up though. Meh. Meh I say.

Thank you so much for the links to the real life pics!

Cushion: The handshots on Knox are part of what I adore about that site!

Okay Cushioncutnut, my current top 3:

1. Superbcert''s Tiffany Replica

gdfav2scert.jpg

2. Scott Kay. I tried this one on yesterday with a Ritani bezel band and loved it. Mom liked it too, LOL.

It's a tie for 3rd.

Thanks for posting those buttercup pictures! They look so much nicer than the prongs I had, maybe mine were not solstice?? I really like that W prong look. Actually ALL the rings that were posted in here are really beautiful. Good luck choosing! I think I will just ask whiteflash to lower mine with WHATEVER prongs THEY think look best. I am not much for making good decisions
7.gif
and I''d probably trust them over myself.

P.S. Ladyluvsluxury''s set is unbelievably beautiful! Makes me want some yummy yellow gold!
Aw. I think you made a great decision in sending your diamond to be recut! It looks like your original setting that you posted has the typical 6 prong, not a solstice (mine was the same way). Do you like 4 or 6 prongs?
Thanks Dani! I''m really glad I decided to too, it''s just so hard WAITING!! I do actually like the six-prong better. There were definitely things I didn''t love about my ring, but I never thought it looked too busy. Plus, my local jeweler convinced me that with a bigger stone (for the area I live in---- NOT by PS standards) that six prongs would be better. I don''t like the way four prong settings make the diamond look squarish either, so I''m pretty set on 6. My band is cathedral, but it seems like there''s still plenty of room to lower the stone without it hitting the shank. Hopefully that can happen without taking TOO much extra time!

Anyway, it seems like you are going to have a very tough time choosing a setting! It does make sense to have your band made first to see what looks best with it. I like that scott kay ring a lot though, and you said it looked great with a bezel band. But everything you posted is so pretty! Good luck, I''d be going out of my mind! (actually I already am, just about my recut!)

Oh Dani, somehow I missed this whole story about the problems with your reset! I know how excited you were about it and I''m so sorry it didn''t turn out the way you wanted it.
aww1.gif
I really hope you finally find the ring of your dreams though and that you have fun while looking for it!
BTW, I think I''m in love with your 3rd Option B - the Diana setting.

You''ll get it back soon I hope! It totally looks like (from yur pics) they can just put a lower-set head on your ring without a problem.
1.gif
And I tried on a 6 prong cathedral yesterday and liked the look in real life. Funny how things look so, so different when you''re actually holding them! LOL! I really think I''m going to go ahead with the band and then find something to match. Makes sense in my head, LOL.

Yeah.

I talked about the reset issues mostly in Colored Stones on the Rings in Waiting Thread. There''s more on it Here. I am having fun looking. Frustrating fun, but fun nonetheless, LOL.

I''m really liking the Diana setting too. I need to go and see it in person. There''s a jeweler near me (recommended by the guy at Tiffany''s when I went in to try on the Jazz) that carries almost everything I like. Of course they were closed this weekend and I''m out of town next weekend, LOL, so it''s going to be a bit until I can go and check it out!

Thanks for the support and help all - I really appreciate it!

There are 2 near me that are listed as carrying Diana styles - hopefully I can get there in the next few weeks! I won''t take my diamond on the first run - I''ll take a look and then go back in with DH.

He likes the Mark Schneider and the Diana, then the Scott Kay. He''s not a fan of the Tiffany replica, LOL!

I also like these 2 from Whiteflash alot, but the price is creeping up there.
ButterBean - Where did you find this one?

ETA: I know it''s from WF, but do you know what thread? It''s not as chunky as the Tiffany Replica on the site, and the band tapers...
Hi Geckodani, Sorry for the late reply - I''ve been away from the computer for a bit. That is a wonderful custom ring I saw posted here a while back. I asked if WF would make it again for me and they say yes.

The more I see of the Diana setting, the more I like it! I have an email in to a local jeweler to see if they have it in stock!

Here is mine. Its a Simon G x-pring, similar to Vatche, but it sits higher, so you can wear a WB flush.
