Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

Not fair! I was gonna grab it. :(sad

Okay, that's a record - at least it was really, really, fast!

Came across this stone on D&J Rare Gems...seems like a really nice star sapphire for the price:

18059 Sapphire Star,
Md Pink, 1.64 cts oval cabochon measuring 7.5x6.6x3.3 mm, lt incl, from Sri Lanka. A very fine sapphire that displays a strong six ray star. Very reasonable for a pink star sapphire.
Priced at $150/carat or $246.00/gem

Interesting cut -- brings out the stone's attributes nicely.

For somebody that has some bucks, a really nice 4 carat sapphire being auctioned by Skinner in Boston.

http://www.skinnerinc.com/auctions/2671B/lots/662

I can't grab the pic, but here's the description;
Art Deco Platinum, Sapphire, and Diamond Ring, prong-set with a rectangular emerald-cut sapphire measuring approx. 8.32 x 7.60 x 6.32 mm, and weighing approx. 3.95 cts., flanked by diamond bullets, no. 5027B, size 4 1/2, within a Cartier box.

Note: Accompanied by AGL document no. CS 55559 dated July 12, 2013, stating that the sapphire is natural, with no gemological evidence of heat, Burma origin.

Estimate $12,000-15,000

Lovely! :cheeky:

I predict it will go at twice the estimate . . .

What a pretty color on the sapphire-but the cut looks kinda weird-a dark band around the center cut and is it shallow with windows? Pretty setting.

Very pretty sapphire, but lots of facet abrasion. It needs some lapidary care.

I righteously and freely admit it - I have a thing for tsavs. That said, a 1 ct beautiful, medium toned round tsavorite for $250? Are you all asleep? And what about the NC glowy emerald Kid is also selling - both purchase worthy!

ETA: Oops, forgot the rules! Here is the photo so it can still be seen once the link is no longer active:

I have actually seen that tsav in person and it is quite beautiful. Just sayin'.

Minou,
That IS a good price and it's uncommon to get a round shape too, which makes it incredibly easy to find a setting for the tsavorite.

I would be all over it except I really prefer a more saturated stone. Im all about the med dark tsavs. Lol. But it's a great buy for people who like bright green!

I prefer my tsavs medium, so that would be perfect for me if I didn't already have 3 tsavs...

I was just drooling over that this morning, but have to be all responsible-like with the budget for a while. Wah.

It's a knock-out stone. I would've grabbed it the moment it went up, except I'm looking for one a little bigger. Very tempting, though.

The design & cutting on this Jeffrey Hunt zircon is so wonderful, I visit it to drool often. No idea what it costs & I'm saving for something special. Somebody take it home! It would make an absolutely stunning pendant.

Jeff's blurb:

King Stag Prototype
Beautiful Honey Colored Sri Lanka Zircon
2.20 carats • 8.7 x 6.3 x 5.0 mm •
This is a Sri Lanka Zircon faceted in a prototype for King Stag, an original design. The Zircon rough was imported from Sri Lanka.

I don't know anything about spess (I know you all keep saying "Fanta orange," but my eyes don't see color as well as you eagle-eyed Pricescopers!), but this one looks gorgeously glowy to me. And it's HUGE, 13.4mm wide.

I must agree - that looks good enough to drink. It sure does look like it would glow in the dark, even.

And it's the same size as a Cutie!

Here's another, from one of our own, YT. This looks to be a beautiful zircon - have to admit that Jeff has had some beauties recently. At $425, I am tempted myself, but I'm selling, not buying...

I *think* its one of the few blue zircons that has a green modifier, but I would check that with YT. Notice that due to its cutting, its one of the rare examples of an oval that doesn't exhibit significant shadowing or - dare I say it? 1/2 and 1/2 extinction. For that right there, bragging rights that you have an example that proves it can be done, its worth what, at least $3-4K?

Also, is anyone looking at Preloved lately? There are other great stones there for bargain prices - check out Katharath's Gene cc garnet for example if you like stones slightly darker. It really is a collector's stone.

Nicely cut purple Sapphire on Multicolour at a good price. Shame I don't have a desire for a purple stone.

If I didn't already have one of Jerry Newman's tourmalines, I would consider this one.

Did someone on PS buy his Afghan Tourmaline? I would love to see more pics of that!

Agreed. I had the facets refreshed on my grandfather's amethyst, and it was only $75 and it looked brand new.

That sapphire ended up going for over $26,000, BTW. :errrr:

Oh iLander, I luuuurve the stones you post here. If the photo is accurate, that tourmaline is beautiful and a unique color.
