Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

haha I feel the same way about having my dose of green, Acinom. I actually think I can move past having an emerald. Are you still searching? :)

I was actually still searching while Gene faceted the Tourmaline. But now my craving for an emerald is completely over. Yay!!! We have saved sooo much money by not wanting an emerald. Now we can spend the pennies on other stones.

hehe That's funny that yours is over too. Oh, I know! No doubt about that, but I'm sure we'll find another way to spend it. ;)

Personal preference/taste - if I were buying a light coloured low RI stone such as beryl (aquamarine, morganite), peridot and quartz, have a look at something concave cut. They transform from the typical glassy look into POW with all that sparkle from the cut design.

I'm with Chrono - the concave cut is vibrant and eye catching.

Estimate $500,000 – $700,000
Starting Bid $197,000

Natural Burma Sapphire 4.92 carats

isn't that too high? :o

Acinom! What is the website for this gorgeous amythest? I can't find it x

Acinom,

Like you, I am a winter when it comes to colours, hence my JD's RDF does not thrill me.

DK :))

It sold quickly, just like the peridot I posted. You may contact the vendor Chris Auletta via Facebook as he might have something for you in the future.

Chris also posts in the Fine Faceted Gems & Cabs Market. You have to become a member first.

I know the feeling... A beautiful stone in itself is unfortunately not a great match for everyone's skintone and preference. In the right setting it could work however, but it's more of a stretch.

acinom: so funny to see it written in Dutch - at least what I think is Dutch, lol!

Somebody needs to buy this unheated sapphire!

I returned it because I got the size mixed up with the garnet Gene had on offer, I thought it was an 8mm stone, which is what I'm looking for right now. Gene and I had corresponded, but we were talking about two different stones. I was very embarrassed by my mistake when it arrived.

But the colors are amazing. Everytime the light hits it, it is different and quite amazing. Purple, hot pink magenta, and ruby red all shift around constantly. It's stunning, and if I didn't already have a Gene 5 x 7 sapphire (shifts copper to red) set in a ring I would have kept it.

So, somebody buy it and get it off my mind before I give in and order it back. It's really tempting . . . :Up_to_something:

What do peeps think of this lemon quartz from Jeff Davies:

Both the colour and cut appeal to me, the colour especially, as it looks vibrant with a hint of lime green.

I do not normally go for yellow stones as most look too orange for my liking. However, I cannot see any orange in this stone, and it is a good size.

DK :))

Nice cutting, if one doesn't mind that it's irradiated, as is most yellow quartz.

I don't believe yellow quartz like that neon color occurs in nature.

I know someone was looking for minty stones to set around a pink fcd, not sure if this would work, but I thought I would try. Kind of pricey, but maybe he has another smaller parcel, or can split this one up.

Ohhh, I'd love to take a few of those home.

re: the price, if someone's interested, they can make an offer.

There are neat, but I don't know what I would do with the lighter colored stones.

I think they would look great together in some cluster melee type setting. It doesn't have to be one uniform hue/tone.

There seems to be a lot of buzz around green sapphires right now, so I had to list this. Stunning, huge, good price and untreated!

3.24 cts
8.1mm, depth 6.4mm
VVS
No treatments
$2,950
HUGE unheated Montana round. In north facing daylight, color is incredible silvery bluish-green. Under incandescent light, a smoky green like large photo. Outstanding cut with a high crown, eye clean. (Cut by Andrew Gulij)

Could anyone cast an eye on this Amethyst on JD's site and advise if it is over-priced, as I can't see what is so special about it:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CUSTOM-CU...176?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5671f25c30

DK

Really overpriced IMO, even if there's labor involved in the precision cutting. It has unexceptional color for an amethyst, and I think Bolivian material is some of the most blah looking in the amethyst world.

I prefer African and Uruguayan material.

I would not spend more than $200 for that stone, and even then, I think $200 would be on the high side. Precision lapidaries often don't make much money off of such inexpensive material because it's too labor intensive/costly to cut something only worth very very little per gram in the rough.

Look at how little Gene priced this stone for, and it's much better color, and larger, and he took the time to facet/polish it.

Good to hear I am not the only who thought it is over-priced!

The reason I asked is that my precision cut stone from Richard Homer costs less, more saturated, and bigger, and IMHO, worth every penny (still have another two instalments to pay before it is mine):

LOL, you know there's something wrong with a price if its more expensive than a Richard Homer stone, as he charges a huge premium for his cutting.

Precisely! RH is great to work with though, and I can't wait to receive the stone towards the end of April 2015.

Congrats!

It is very pretty.

Maybe Jeff Davies accidentally gave the wrong price on that amethyst because his pricing does tend to be very fair.

Thank you!

I too believe it was an error with the listing, and I may let him know later via eBay.
