I've been looking for an asscher cut sapphire in light ceylon blue for a few years now. Just got one last weekend!
Thanks to Jim Renfrow of Flawless Facets.

Here it is.

Setting ideas? (In a ring).

Congratulations on your holy grail! Was it custom cut? Can you tell us about the process?

Yummy!! I'm not a CS expert but that SURE appeals to my eyes!! I love that asscher cut and the colour - to me - is perfect!!! Enjoy this stone!! I agree- a ring would be the best because then you can look and admire it all the time!!

or a single stone in a DBTY bracelet- then you can admire both sides of it all the time... just a thought!!

Yowza, that is one huge sapphire! There is nothing like large, precision cut, sapphires  I love asschers and Jim's cutting is great. Really pretty - congrats. I guess we can check one off the Holy Grail list, huh?

Beautiful. Sense i want a step cut colored stone pretty badly, i already have setting ideas in mine for you

Hi everyone, thanks so much!!

Sadly, I'm not a fan of split shanks. At least not for this project - on other people they are lovely!

Nielseel, that is truly beautiful!!! and those prongs!!

Thanks for the thread jack! I always want setting ideas. Love the JBEG one! Sadly, my blues are much smaller than the stones in that ring.
For everyone else, my three stone halo is my blue diamond project - the centre is a FIB RB and the side stones are pears. And they took me a long time to find! (blue diamond pears are rare!). But they're small, the centre is only 0.72 and the pears are about a quarter carat each. So, halos. Also I love how the contrast with white diamonds really sets off the blue! Still thinking about milgrain or no milgrain though.

My current thinking is to just have the sapphire in a simple setting for now, partly so I can get on with wearing it and partly so I can decide if I'm happy with it set on it's own or not. But...

This is the original pic that made me want one of these!

When I asked Jim what size stone would best show off the cut, however, he recommended something around 7-8 carats, which is much bigger than the stone in the original picture (which I think is around 1.5 cts). Mine turned out to be 10mm wide. So I don't know if that's too big for a halo. Looking at it in person, I don't think so. I do have long fingers, and wear a size 9, so I can probably get away with it. also, it's deep, so will need a high setting.

I like how the halo on the little sapphire emphasizes the asscher shape!

I love having this kind of problem!

Once I found Jim the whole project moved forward pretty quickly. I first contacted him last fall and now here I am holding the stone. I have at least four more projects to complete before this one. Hence the "simple setting for now" idea.

Sorry to ramble. It's all just so exciting!

Yes, it was custom cut. I emailed Jim and explained what I wanted and asked his advice. I know that asschers don't look as good below a certain size. I did explain that I wanted a less saturated stone because otherwise I wouldn't be able to really see the steps. Jim was great! He got in some rough and voila!

The hard part was finding Jim. After that it was easy.

I'm already comfortable buying jewelry online, so I didn't need to see it in person first or anything.

Of course, looking through his gallery made me instantly want a purple sapphire!

My previous holy grail was a red diamond. I found one last year. Still need to get it set too. Will it never end?

Thanks!

Yes, Jim is great!

Actually, in person it doesn't seem so big. Since it's a square cut/step cut, it faces up smaller than my four carat oval royal blue which I wear almost every day. Also, I have big hands. On someone with a size 4 finger, it would cover it!

Dude, I'd just stick that in a plain solitaire or bezel for now. Do the fancy stuff later if you want, but first, get it on your hand!!

Beautiful sapphire. Great color.

I really want to come play in your jewelry box, because I love what I've seen of your jewelry so far. I love the setting you've picked out. While it has some embellishments, it will really let the asscher take center stage, which is just what you want. Your logic about a less saturated stone makes so much sense too.

As for you, NKOTB - I LOVE that setting you posted and that is what I've been seeking secondhand for my round tsavorite. Perhaps I should just consider buying a repro from them.

Thanks Minou, that's quite a compliment. I should say that other than my blue halo, all my fcds are less than 1/2 carat. Fun to play with but pretty tiny! Well, my red one's not so tiny. but the others are.

At least my coloured stones are decent sizes.

I keep making new years resolutions about not buying any more stones 'til I get the ones on hand set! But then something like this baby drops into my lap!

It looks to be a very sweet and delicate blue color--perfect for an asscher! Congrats!

Ha ha, this makes me laugh! Dropped into your lap by you contacting Jim?!!

You know, you've made it pretty easy because a sapphire of that size, color and cut will look good in almost any setting.

OK, Rosebloom's got me thinking. What about with trillion tsav side stones?

Something like this. Only with nicer prongs, of course!

Minou, in fairness Jim had to drop it into her lap, because it wouldn't fit into her hand!
