Speaking of holy grails...

Something like this, for colour. Although my sapphire is a softer blue.

Ha ha, this makes me laugh! Dropped into your lap by you contacting Jim?!!

Minou, in fairness Jim had to drop it into her lap, because it wouldn't fit into her hand!

Well, it felt really easy. It's not like I didn't contact other vendors over the past few years. I suppose I thought it would take him a long time to get the rough, or he would say he couldn't get any. But, yes, you're right. It's not quite like it dropped off a tree! I think my coloured-stone addiction is showing!

ETA: Wouldn't we like to see that tree!

I like the blue-green combo, but just make sure that the saturation and tone of the greens match that of your sapphire.

For an asscher, I also like traps. Just imagine the 5 stone setting above, but with the traps only.

I was thinking the same thing. Tsavs come in such a range of greens. Maybe if I can pick from several pairs?
I'm partial to the lighter, more vivid ones.

I think that beautiful blue color would look better with icy white diamonds over the tsavorites.

Absolutely gorgeous sapphire by the way

OK, Rosebloom's got me thinking. What about with trillion tsav side stones?

Something like this. Only with nicer prongs, of course!

Yes, yes, yes!!! Only the shank looks out of proportion on that ring and should be less clunky looking imo. But an asscher with side trillion diamonds? What's not to love?

Yes please.

When the time comes, I'll probably put it to a vote. I can always use the tsavs for another project!

Thanks so much everyone!

Even with lighter toned green garnets, they will overshadow the sapphire if they have strong to vivid saturation. The tone and saturation must both match.

Inspired by Rosebloom's idea and carefully following pregcurious and Chrono's advice about saturation and tone, I've acquired two 1 ct tsavorite trillions! As soon as I saw them next to the sapphire I thought, this is it!

So here they are. Now how to set them? What would emphasize the asscher shape? Bezel around the asscher and prongs for the sides?

Thoughts?

I'm grateful for any advice!

What a cool combo, both literally and figuratively! Double prongs for the asscher, single prongs for the trillions.

Nooooo, don't tempt me. I've had my eye on a pair of those gorgeous orange fcds - but I'm holding off so I can keep my New Year's resolution to set the stones I have now before I buy any more.

Thus the travs.

Also, I think those fiery babies would overpower the sapphire.

But thanks, and don't think I'm not tempted!

i like single or double claws for the asscher (depending on size) and little prongs for the sidestones. kinda like this:

ps gorgeous color combo!

another example with trillions (but w a cushion keystone) from harry winston:

The tsavs & the sapphire are so beautiful together, I can't stand it! Great job you did -- size & proportion w/the asscher are super, saturation & tone, wow. Prong set all three -- allow plenty of light to set those puppies aglow!! I can't wait to see it done -- what metal are you planning to use?

Oh wow that will be a stunning ring! I'm not a huge fan of the color combo but that is because I lean towards classic more art deco settings. With that said I really like how they play off each other in color and I think the shape combo is pretty to die for! I love the porportions that will make for a 3 stone ring!

I love the pink and green ring from LM posted by silk sapphire.

Periwinkle, you did a great job finding a match. I bet it was not easy.

I love that color combo! What an awesome find.

I love love LOVE it!! I am dying to do a blue/green stone ring. That will be spectacular. I'm assuming you're doing white metal, correct? If so I'd do claw prongs, cathedral shank. I'd send it to Leon or Steven Kirsch to set. They would make that stone combination look absolutely regal. I cannot wait to see how it turns out!

But if you're open to yellow gold, I'd do a tiny delicate bezel with milgrain. Maybe a semi bezel so the stones still touched on the sides but the bezel wrapped around the whole outside and partially in between as well. Does that make sense? If I was doing YG, I'd have Single Stone set it. And then I'd die happy. :)

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for the positive comments! I will be setting it in white metal, likely white gold, but haven't completely decided yet. And I think you've convinced me on the claw prongs idea.

Actually it was easy to find the tsavs, (and they were a good deal). They were the first pair I ordered. I was all ready to send them back, but they turned out to be great!

Rosebloom, thanks so much for the idea of tsavorites! So glad to break away from a halo of white diamonds for once! This combining colour with colour thing is new to me, but I think this is a great start!

I'll keep you all posted when I eventually get it set.

Oh my goodness! That combination is HEAVEN!! Love the blue and green!

This!

Finally remembered to take some handshots with the temp setting (just a cheapie I had lying around). So much easier to get good shots once set!

And a close up.

That COLOR!

Oh wow. That stone NEEDS to be on display. And call me crazy, but I like the cheapie setting.

It looks like a beautiful color and shows off its asscher cutting very well. A knockout for sure.
