It''s BEAUTIFUL!!! Looks like it was meant to have a home on your finger!

Gorgeous. I love Ruby''s. I love that ring! So beautiful!!! Drooooooling over here!!!

Wow, Widget, I need to go shopping with YOU!!! You find the most gorgeous rings!

Widget, that ring is HUGE! Funny, from you blurry initial picture was like a ring I had, which was 1.3ct, so I guessed so very wrong.

Then again, on that finger I am a size 4.75, so a 3ct would look WHOA.

That ring is just breathtaking! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! The color and beauty of that setting...so delicate and yet substantial.... *sigh*

Pictures do not do jewlery justice...and I am sure that as lovely as it is from each new picture you posted...it''s a knock out in person...

I really apologize about asking price, but I am starting to do my studying of pieces and what they valuate for...forgive my rudeness, it''s really just my way of learning... Can I borrow your ring to "learn"?

that is a GORGEOUS ring!! congrats on the great find!!

Widget,

Wow! Your red spinel ring is gorgeous. It''s really hard to find a nice red spinel in over 3 carat size and in an original deco mounting too. What more can you ask for? It''s a great buy. I would have caved too if I saw it. You must bring this ring to the next ''get together''. I would love to see it. I bought a 2.67 carat red spinel years ago at a bargain price. A lot of jewelry store sales people have mistaken it for a ruby. The dealer that you mentioned is quite reputable. I have met him a few times at antique shows. In fact, my sister bought estate jade earrings from him in the Las Vegas show at the Rio two years ago.

I have lots of ''mistakes'' that I would like to get rid of too, but I''m afraid an outright sale to an estate jewelry dealer would only give me back ~25% of my cost or less.

Beautiful ring! Love it.

Widget!!! I love it! Wow, you do have some gorgeous pieces in your collection. Soon, you will need to post a thread with your collection -- I''d love to see it!

I had no idea spinnel came in a deep red like that. The world of colored gems is totally foreign to me, and I''m beginning to think I should go explore!

Widget - where do you go from here! This is just fantastic!! Wow, I love it. How nice to have the original setting. That jewelry box of yours must be overflowing.

It''s exceptional - congratulations on that beauty - it looks perfect on you.

Aaah, thanks guys...

I must admit the extinction does bother me a bit...but nothing's perfect, right?

AN: I sure hear ya on the pain of selling stuff for SO MUCH less than it originally cost...but it feels SO GOOD having disposed of it! At least now I don't have to be reminded of and tormented by my past follies everytime I open my jewelry box!

(BTW....have you done anything about resetting your pad?)

Lumpkin and Blingydoll...Yes! Spinel definitely comes in red! For a long time they were often confused with rubies. The "Black Prince's Ruby" in the British Crown Jewels was only discovered to actually be a spinel in the late 1800s (I think) here's a pic:
