New spinel''s here and I''m still practicing my picture taking skills. Let''s see how I did with this one.

Oops! Sorry that one is GIGANTIC!!! I forgot to resize it first.

Yes it does seem a bit large, but how is the color of the stone? Is it dark? I LOVE the cut on this stone. More photos please.

This is actually a very good representation of the color, however the focus isn''t very good and the angle isn''t very good. But, the color is pretty much, dead on. I wish I could have captured the other characteristics of the stone in this one. I''m going to see if I have any luck with any of the stones in the sun tomorrow. All of my outdoor attempts have been horrendous so far. Inside has been my only halfway "ok" success so far.

I''ll get there, I just need to keep practicing.

Lovely stone! I like the colour and the shape!

I can relate to how hard it is to take photos -- I really have a hard time of it, and they never seem to do they stones justice

Very pretty! I love the color and the shape too! How will you set it?

I honestly have no idea. It''s not a very large stone - 1.05ct, 5.56mm x 5.56mm - so I''m thinking it would get lost in a pendant, the color is one that really very flashy, but is one that you need to be looking at to appreciate. I''m not sure it''s one that I''m going to set anytime soon, honestly. This might be one I sit on, appreciate, and let the stone tell me, at it''s own time, what I should do with it.

I have a spessartite that I''m doing the same thing with - I''m thinking pendant for that one - but again, the right thing just hasn''t hit me yet... while "It''s a keeper!" did hit me, the "This is what it has to be!" part just isn''t there yet.... it''ll come.

Ha! I love how you think. I've got several stones sitting in their boxes right in front of my computer now that I keep looking at and waiting for the setting inspiration to hit. Sometimes it's immediate. Other times it takes a while.

Nice stone, BTW!

pretty! I''ll be looking forward to more photos

I love the shape, and the "moody" color. I''m sure Freke will appreciate that, too lol.

When you try taking pictures next time, get in a patch of sunlight without putting the stone directly into the sun - look for a spot where the light is reflecting to, like an inch outside of the patch of sunlight that lands on your kitchen table. (Or someplace.) Indirect sunlight works wonders for color and sparkle.

Jypsie,
Who''s the vendor? Most gemstones do not handle direct sunlight well. For outdoor pictures, take the picture in the shade.

Interesting stone, I''d like to see the photos in daylight. Have you taken them yet?

I have taken a few, they are horrible! Bleh!

I''ll try again tomorrow - unless I get lucky and get a peek of some sun through the living room window again this afternoon, but I think I''m out of luck for the rest of today. I''ll give that a shot, taking the pictures not in direct sunlight. I''ll try this with the spess that''s giving me trouble photographing also.

The spinel is from Dan Stair, so is the Spess.

Ok, ran up front, we got a tiny bit of sun that was peeking through some tree branches to the dining room, so I took advantage of it.

Here are some pictures that I was able to take on the window ledge. Hopefully they came out ok. I also added a few pictures of my ER and bands, I''ve never posted them all together before.

I mean.... I hate when I forget to upload! Ugh.

Hopefully these decent for outdoor lighting pictures. Thanks for the tip regarding taking pics in sunlight and outside. It''s been really difficult - but these at least came out focused, everything''s been a blurry mess until these.

THANKS those photos were much better. I''d still like a close up of that Spinel to see the faceting on it. What does it''s color look like in person?

Hi Stone Hunter,

I really do wish I could get a close up of the spinel for you, unfortunately, if I get any closer it blurs out. I''m only able to get that close if I have something with writing on it right next to the stone or what the stone is sitting on, in this case, I had the spare camera battery next to it, writing side up - I tried to clip as much of it out of the pictures as I could.

I''ll try to take some more pictures tomorrow, maybe I''ll have a little more luck. Perhaps if I try on some newspaper, since the writing is small, I may be able to get a little closer. Let''s see how I do. I''ll keep trying :-)
