oh goodness Ally, that is not good news at all

. I guess I''d least find a bit of comfort in knowing others jewelry was missing so the police will take it more seriously. I hope they are able to track the guy down and find your ring asap. Hugs to you girl

Oh Ally, that is just horrible!!!!!!!!

I''m still crossing my fingers that they might actually catch this guy.

Oh and Ally, I probably just missed this, but is it the appraiser or jeweler who has gone missing? I seem to remember you giving it to your appraiser who then gave it to the jeweler. If it is the jeweler missing, maybe you can hold the appraiser liable and get even the money for your setting back. Just a thought.

i feel silly but why is only 75% of the value insured, or rather why would you be out any money if it''s insured? is Canada insurance different?

anyway, so sorry to hear the update, but at least you know something (even though it''s not good) rather than absolutely nothing and going on day after day wondering...hopefully the detective will keep you apprised of what is going on.

good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Mara:

Canadian insurance is the same as US insurance. This is why she is only covered for 75%

Now I'm freaking out a bit because....oh god this is careless but I only have insurance on the stone. And it was insured as a lose stone, and when we had it set in the setting, we never got around to changing the insurance to a ring...but we were still paying the premiums but on a loose stone....so I don't know what's going to happen. They had told us that the insurance was valid if we loose the stone, if it fell out of the setting etc., so I hope it's ok...although we would still have the loss of the setting.

I am so sorry ally! How horrible. There is nothing wrong with being attached to material items. I don''t think that makes any of us bad people. The ring was symbolic and it is okay to be upset. I really hope they catch that guy and find the ring. Maybe you should take a picture of it to the local pawn shops. Good luck!

I was so sorry to hear the latest news Ally. The only positive is that there''s strength in numbers, and this should help keep the detectives on their toes and working hard to get this resolved.

I hope they find this guy and everyone''s jewellery really soon.

Heather

oh heather....i didnt see ally''s post, it makes sense now!!

That''s so terrible...

I''m really sorry it''s happening to you, Ally... *hugs*

Wow, so sorry to hear about this.

Do try to focus on the solution.
Your insurance company will be working for you and the police will be working for you.

Try to not beat yourself up over this.
What happened is in the past.
Try to focus on the future and the solution!

Good luck!

Oh, Allycat, I am so sorry that this happened. I couldn''t believe it when I popped back onto PS and saw another thread about problems with the ring again! I agree with the others that have said since there are multiple claims against this guy that they''ll take it more seriously. I really hope they find him

Please don''t be too hard on yourself...I don''t have a jeweler that I have a relationship with either so you just have to go through recommendations and sometimes take a chance. At some point for everyone, we each put trust into those providing a service to us that they won''t take advantage of us. More often than not, you''re in good hands, don''t be too hard on yourself for not being able to spot the theif...its like someone else said, the bad people don''t wear signs. Good luck, if you hear any updates, let us know... *big hug*

((((HUGS, ALLEY))))

So sorry this happened. Who would have ever thought crocks would have so blatantly set up shop.

Everything will be okay...hang in there.

I hope they find this guy (and everyone''s jewelry) and nail his slimy guts to the wall...I''m so sorry Ally - I can only hope this ends well. What a stomach churning, stressful experience. Try to keep your chin up - at least you had insurance on the stone...

OMG Ally!!! You have been through the wringer with this ring...and now THIS! I just can''t believe it. You are NOT evil or superficial for being upset about what''s going on (heck, all of us would be too!)....that ring has a lot of sentimental value and I know how hard you and your fiance worked for it and on it. I am so sorry, sweetie. I hope they find this a-hole and throw the book at him. Let us know what the detective and your insurance agent find out.

Hang in there,
Kristy
PS - are all your exams over? I sure hope so...I can''t imagine you being able to concentrate after all this!

I''m so sorry that you''re going through all of this, and I really hope that they find him and your ring soon. *Hugs*

Ally, I''m so sorry to hear this. Your fiance will come around...I''m sure he''s just stressed about this whole situation and doesn''t blame you directly.

Whenever I am down in the dumps, I remind myself that things are never as bad as they seem. I''ve been following your threads for several months now, and it almost seems like this ring is cursed with bad luck. Tomorrow is another day and you can start off fresh! *hugs*

Ally my darling, I am so sorry to hear this.

In a way it is a good thing that there are multiple complaints against this jerk, at least the police WILL take action. I am really hoping that the police might find your ring. I realy don''t have words as I can''t imagine how you must be feeling, but I send hugs out to you and really hope to hear good news from you soon!

I echo Mrs DJ with her staplegun and a tree remark

It breaks my heart to hear that your ring is MIA. I hope it gets resolved soon!

Any updates? I really hope things work out!!

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Alley I''m so sorry. I don''t know what else to say.

Talk to your insurance company immediately. They may have interest in the loss as a whole. You may not be the only one insured with them in this "disappearance".

SO, SO, SO sorry Ally~! Lots of *big* hugs, and hopefully the police are able to find this guy and your ring...!

It''s so disheartening to know that there are people like this in the world...

I know it''s tough to put things into perspective, but hopefully you and your fiance have made up and are handling this together as a team. Good luck.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for all of the support, it helps a lot to know that there are people backing you up! I haven''t heard any news, and honestly don''t expect any for a while, unless by some miracle the guy comes back and it''s some sort of sick misunderstanding. Police here are RIDICULOUSLY slow. One time a man stole our snowblower from the driveway, and we had the licence plate of the truck and it took them 6 months to call us back with news!!! So I''m not expecting anything, anytime soon.

At this point, I haven''t decided yet to file an insurance claim, mainly because the detective didn''t say "ok, it''s stolen" I''m going to call back in one week, and see what the status is before moving forward. Honestly, though, the whole UNDER insurance was my fault. Mainly because I never thought it was possible for me to lose my ring... the only reason we had it insured in the first place was because it was being shipped to New York to be worked on by Leon.

My boy is still angry at me. I think rightly so though, because he was really against me leaving the ring with any one other then Leon.
15.gif
. So we''ll see how this all blows over. Thank goodness I have school to keep me busy. I''m trying to be optimistic, I mean it''s an object....replaceable....but oh grrr.... I''m so frustrated with the thought of going day in and day out with this sort of limbo of not knowing.

In any case, thanks for letting me vent. I''ll keep everyone updated.

thanks for the update ally. I''m sorry this looks like it''s going to be a long process. I still think you should at least call your insurance company and tell them what is going on. you don''t have to actually file a claim, just fill them in so they have a documented timeline as well. Good luck..

OH, and this should be a HUGE reminder to folks as another reason why insurance is a MUST. You just never know what can happen

True that!!!

Ally - still thinking about you and hoping this gets resolved sooner rather than later ... 6 months would be a RIDICULOUSLY long time to wait.

I would definitely call the insurance company just to let them know what''s happened...they may have some statute of limitations or something. Best to alert them to the situation.

Ali,
Any news? Have been thinking of you!

Hey Ally!

I just noticed this thread...I''m sooo sorry that your ring was stolen!
7.gif
I can''t believe someone would actually do this!
38.gif
Poor you...you''ve had the worse luck with your ring. I really hope they find it for you. I also hope you FI understands that it''s now in the past and you nor he can do anything about it and need to let it go (I know harder said than done).

Do you mind telling me who the jeweler was (name/place)? Just in case he opens up another ''shop'' in Mtl. I just want to make sure my friends/relatives and I are aware of people like this. I still can''t believe it!

Was your diamond appraised at the ''true'' market value? or did the appraiser increase the amount by a little? The reason I asked is because as you know my FI used the same appraiser as you did and he at first gave us a ''higher'' value for my e-ring. We told him to mark the true value because we didn''t want to pay more on insurance premiums. So hopefully your FI will at least get back the money he spent on the diamond.

That reminds me that I have to add my e-ring to our insurance policy ASAP!!! I keep on forgetting!

Hey Ally, I''m so sorry to hear that this happened to you. I don''t really know what to say, but I can imagine how upset you are. I hope you hear back from the police soon and keep us updated.

OMG!!! I can''t believe this happened! What a nightmare! My heart goes out to you! I would not be able to concentrate on anything!!! You poor thing! Please don''t blame yourself for the insurance thing though--it wasn''t your fault that the guy stole your ring. You might be able to recover some of the cost if you have a receipt for the setting through your home owners insurance--just a thought!

I pray they find this guy--and your ring!
